Spirit Week Schedule:
No changes are to occur until after midnight, PST. (Same as Neopian Standard Time.)
---
It's probably about time to have another one! And for those who haven't heard of it, NTWF Spirit Weeks is an event where each participating user dresses up their profile to fit one of the 5 themes for a few days before the theme changes. To get a better idea of what the event is like, check out the previous threads where we had this event! 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011/12.
There will be 5 themes that will be suggested and voted on by the forum public. During a theme, participants will dress up their profile to match the theme. For example, if the theme is princesses and I choose to dress as Princess Jasmine, then I will change my avatar, name, and other parts of the profile to reflect this. Each theme will be up for about 3-4 days before the theme changes, and people can change their profiles again.
It is encouraged to try to do a different theme than what was done in previous years. However, if so much time has passed that people have forgotten what it's like to play with that theme, it can be opened again.
In order to have this event, it needs time to set up. The process will go as follows: People will post suggesting what themes they would like to see happening during this Spirit Weeks. Once enough suggestions have been collected and enough people have put their word in, I will set up a poll with the suggested themes, and everyone will vote for their 5 favorite themes. The themes with the most votes will be selected. In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker poll will be created. During this process, we can also decide exactly what date to begin. This year, we had some previous discussion on when to have it, and it was planned to have it sometime in January, but there's still some narrowing down to do. After all the themes are chosen and the dates are decided, it's just a matter of waiting for it to start. Then when it starts, you can proceed dressing up for that week's theme.
Spirit Weeks Photo Booth: Coming soon!
1. Where do I sign up?
You don't! You can just pop in and join.
2. But I don't want to do this theme!
You do not have to dress up for a theme if you don't want to. You can participate in Spirit Weeks as much as you like. That includes skipping themes entirely, or even just participating in one theme.
3. Someone else dressed up as something I want to be!
It's a sad truth that these things happen. While one can dress up as something that's already being done if they really want to, going with something unique is encouraged. It's advised for anyone participating in Spirit Weeks that they keep a Plan B in case this thing happens.
4. Can I suggest this theme that was nominated in this last year, but didn't win?
Absolutely!
5. Any limits on what themes to suggest?
Other than the limitations from common sense and the rules of the site, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Try not to suggest a theme that's too narrow. A theme that's too narrow may end up ostracizing people who may not be into that sort of theme. Try to keep your themes broad so that there's many options for how to dress up for a theme. (Example: Finding Nemo is an example of a narrow theme due to the fact that it has limited characters and the fact that there are people out there who may not like Finding Nemo. A solution that would include Finding Nemo while keeping things broad is suggesting the theme "Pixar Movies" or "Animated Works" or something like that instead. Between those two, preferably "Animated Works".) In short, try to keep it general.
Also, if someone else has already suggested a theme, please do not suggest it again. If you're not sure whether it's already been suggested, use the browser's search function (ctrl-f most of the time).
6. Is it required to act out as my theme?
No, but it's fun and it's highly encouraged. You definitely don't have to do it all the time though. (A debate post that's in character for Daffy Duck would just be weird.) Most of that happens in this thread or other for-fun threads.
7. How many votes do I get on the poll when it comes up?
You get 5. So you get to choose 5 different ones.
8. Are there any limitations on the size of images I can put in my profile?
Yes. Please read this.
If you have any more questions or anything that should be added to this FAQ, don't hesitate to ask/tell me. There's always something I may not have considered.
Okie dokie, that should cover it.
First thing: Start putting forward suggestions for themes.
EDIT: Temporary list of themes is up! Look over it, and if you have anything else to suggest, suggest it now, since I may put up the poll sometime in the next few days. Will update when I think of a deadline.
EDIT: Poll is up! Vote for your 5 favorites!
EDIT: Themes announced! Spirit Weeks begins at midnight on January 25th!
EDIT: Spirit Weeks has begun! Keep checking the schedule for when each theme changes!
EDIT: Check out the Photo Booth!
EDIT: A bonus theme has been added! If you can find something that could count as a theme for all 5 of the listed themes, then Thursday, Feb. 14 is the day to showcase it! You will also get awesome points because I realize this is probably very hard. This theme is optional.
EDIT: Spirit Weeks is over. Thanks for participating!
