In the meantime, I also request for other mods to try to be more involved and state their views on things. I would, but it's all being said already and I don't like dittoing :'D When a mod says something involving forumthings, it's always the consensus of all mods and usually preceded by a couple days' worth of behind-the-scenes discussions to get us all on the same page. Which means that once a mod has put a nice detailed textwall out there, the rest of us don't have much profound to add to it. I'm in the same boat here as Hunty. I don't have much to add beyond what has already been said, in much more eloquent terms than I could have ever put it. That's why I've mostly been lurking on the thread. As far as things go, I'm in favour of at least giving everything that has been suggested a try. Separate threads for different RP styles can't hurt and who says you cannot pop into one or the other depending on how you're feeling on that day. The only people erecting barriers are going to be the people who frequent the threads and if you guys are all welcoming of each other then there should be no problem with divisions. Besides, it is much better than doing nothing and letting the passive-aggressive comments continue to pile up. That has been my opinion on this matter ever since it started. As for the extensive Taco canon, maybe you guys could compile a small post detailing some things in the museum, as a quick summary of everything for those who just want to casually jump in. And maybe you can allow characters to introduce themselves and explain quickly who or what they are. Show, don't tell. We're all writers here after all. ^_^

Why would a short canon post be needed? I'm not asking to be rude or dismissive, but it seems that is still part of the "Extensive Taco canon" problem. When I join in somewhere, I really don't want to have to have a cliff notes to start posting. Using classic bloid days, the bloids may have seemed intimidating, but no one needed to know I was a ninja and Rider was a pirate. They didn't need to know the history or extensive bloid canon to be involved.
To have to explain canon or provide a people a list of things to be familiar with is almost like saying "You're going to do it wrong otherwise."
And that's not inviting. Not over all anyway. Inviting is to keep in mind such things don't have to be known. People can join on their terms and learn the culture and history on the fly. Like starting a comic book series that's been long running. And anyway, Taco exists in a comic book like universe to me... Similar enough.
Regarding the two threads, I think people need to be careful as saying one or the other is a smaller or side thread. I don't even like calling the current Taco "Main Taco". The truth is, they're both pretty much the same thing. One is more freeform with what to expect, one is more structured. And no matter what people desire (about keeping it "small"), I think the freeform thread is going to grow to be on par with the other thread in size and activity. Both groups need a place to call home and be themselves. Some may be reticent to call a second thread their home, but I think others are eager for it.
And I'm not sure how the current discussion has come up that says that all violence would be banned on the other? When I made this proposal, here is the very clear reasoning I saw
1) Taco Prime had become a bit too strict for some people to thoroughly enjoy RPing the way their style dictates. They're feeling stifled and it is leading to issues.
2) Personal opinion? Taco Prime needs to have looser rules and less trying to control others.
3) Unfortunately by loosening the restrictions and being more freeform, others will feel alienated. Is it fair to drive one group out of having fun just to make another group happy?
4) Taco Prime is already set up to make one group happy. If we try to change that, we're looking at no one being happy in the end. But something needs to give the freeform group their fun, too.
5) A new thread built around that philosophy. Taco Prime, as said, is already set up for the enjoyment of one group primarily. Does it allow for violence, etc, sure, but it doesn't go as far and free as some would like. This ought to solve it for giving both groups an outlet for their desires.
I do think Taco Prime should be less quick to jump on people for starting up things that annoy the stricter group. And I think that's where the main compromise will be... More patience and understanding that other people have fun in different ways. A matter of courtesy.
And that can also be said of the freeform Taco. I would be disappointed if someone asked for things to be calmer (or not be ganked) and someone basically said "Tough luck. You should've stayed on the other thread."
Since we seem to be wrapping up the two threads discussion, I want people to realize that the second thread is not -the- solution. What the mods wanted to facilitate discussion on primarily is the interpersonal. While it seems that RP style conflicts has created a lot of tension, we would really like to get down to the other aspects as well. Those are our main goals here.

I think it's safe to say you'll be okay on the freeform Taco as long as you have others who don't want to see you hurt and are willing to help you. A revised version of the magical flying potato might be in effect, and law enforcement will be up to the characters. If someone is willing to fight for it, it will be fought for. Does this sound alright?

The administration can be wrong, but again, we're not a government. Actually, a government is basically something that governs (conducts affairs of) a country, city, other territory, or community. So technically it is. ~_^ I agreed to the Proboards TOS because it's basically a legal version of a lot of stuff I already agree with, but I am under no legal obligation not to try and affect things for the better. =D Personally, I feel like the thing that has been most excluding is the fact that the IC Chat has such an extensive canon. I've mentioned before that part of the reason I've been so inactive recently is that I don't have the time or motivation to scour through the entire topic to see what has been happening. My personal recommendation: Act as a person would if they happen to walk into something and don't know what's going on. ~_^ So what can we as a group of members do to ensure that these members are still welcome and wanted on the main Taco thread? If their bread-and-butter of roleplaying -- fighting -- is going to better fit on a new Tavern thread (or whatever it will end up being called), what can be done to make the main Taco still an inviting place for ALL participants? A conscious decision by all participants to be more open and inviting. I still think we really don't need to do this, and that we could stick together in one big thread if we put in the effort. Granted, it might be hard, especially at first, but it's far from impossible. There is no problem that cannot be overcome, and no dream that cannot be realized. If we end up making two threads anyway, hey, I don't have the power to make other people's choices for them, but I'm not going to just give up, either. Nothing's set in stone yet. It can be done. ^_^ Though of course, if we do end up splitting, I still plan to take advantage of things. And make/show the occasional connection between the two. YAY FOR SELF-DEFENSE! *cough* *attempts composure regaining*

Just a real quick question- we need to decide on the names for the next Taco thread and the new thread. Suggestions?

I don't like any of those options. I prefer Wild / Domestic? Tame? Suburban?

No need to set up a poll that can never be removed, but according to the replies here... (I also like soft/hard Taco, so) - Coffee Shop / Tavern: 1 vote
- Soft Taco / Hard Taco: 4 votes
- Domestic / Wild Taco: 1 vote
- Undecided: 1 vote
... It's getting fairly late in my timezone, so?

I like Hard/Soft, but then again, I came up with that pairing. XD Others I mostly wouldn't mind, but I'm pretty much with 'NOT Coffee Shop/Tavern.'

Since it is fairly late in the day, and you can edit titles of threads, why not go with the most popular for now and change it if anything better comes to mind? ^^
