"In all honesty... I can't say I like the Faeries that much either." Hunter looked up at the sky. "The Faeries really could have done more for us. They did nothing to stop Maraqua's destruction until after the whirlpool had cleared and the damage was done. They didn't try and stop Sakhmet from disappearing thanks to Jazan's curse. And worst of all, all they did in the Citadel wars was catch Jeran when he fell. They didn't even try to help Meridell through its famine before the orb. They could have prevented all of these wars, these disasters from happening, and yet they didn't." Hunter took a bite out of his scone. "I'd daresay the Faeries who have had the most influence on Neopia's history are the ones like the Betrayer and Katriana."
(Yeah, the Faeries are a lot like the Sidhe from Celtic Mythology. Most of the time, they're, well, the Fair Folk and rather kind, but they tend to stick to their own affairs, and more of them caused more harm than help. I'm not knocking them, since if they did interfere, there would be no plots, but in-universe, it's a lot more understandable to have a somewhat sullied view of them.)

"They...?" Anthy sniffed. "You talk about them like they're all the same. There are many of them, but they cannot be everywhere all the time. They do have their own issues to tend to. The faeries cannot actually go in as a force to stop the terrible things going on in Neopia without going through a ridiculous and complicated process. And it's only thanks to that system that we've only been met with a few Betrayers. It's restrictive, but it does something." Her expression was bitter as she glanced up to the sky, much as the Lupe had. The sun was just beginning to set, having completed its journey across the heavens. The stars would appear soon enough.
"But they couldn't just interfere with the Meridell-Darigan wars," she went on. "They were irrepressible. Had they gone in, the issue would have been suppressed a little more until it flared up again. It is not pretty, but it had to be settled at some point. Sending in a fleet of faeries would not have solved anything, and if they came in often enough everyone would complain that they were not letting the natives handle the issues themselves."
(S'alright. Anthy's very touchy about it, enough that her logic isn't always airtight when she actually has to discuss it. XD)

Hunter growled and shook his head. "The wars could have been prevented if the Faeries had actually DONE something about the famine in Meridell, so Skarl wouldn't have been so easy to trick into stealing the orb by General Mordryd!" Hunter shed a tear. "My father, Sir Arthur, lost his life in those wars. And not to mention Water Faeries could have easily stopped the curse the pirates placed on Maraqua! After all, Faeries have stopped past cataclysms!" (Blame Zarkos for Hunter's dim view on Faeries. Also, I'll leave it up to you guys to decide whether Scarblade or Captain Dread unleashed the whirlpool in this canon )

Xandra released another sigh and sat down, leaning her back against the wall below a window. She'd better stay right here for now...probably forever, but at least she was safe and loved...
WAM!
She abruptly stood up. Saeryennan's Petpet had just flown into the window and was now rolling off of her back. Xandra tenderly picked the Faerie Snowbunny up and flattened out a bent wing. Calissa purred for a few seconds before flying out of Xandra's hands and making frantic chirps.
"What is it?" Xandra asked.
The Snowbunny zoomed up to Saeryennan's room. Xandra followed it. She opened the door to find Saeryennnan looking at her with concern in her eyes.
"Oh, you too?" the princess said. "Yeah, she's been acting really weird...she made those chirps to me and to Jem - " she nodded at the Ixi with her clothes " - and we can't figure out what they mean."
Calissa sat on an open windowsill gesturing at the mountains in the distance.
What she was trying to say was - There is someone on the mountain.

"Easily!" Anthy snapped. "You think it's easy to stop a curse like that? It's so easy to say that, isn't it, when you don't have the responsibility of casting any spells? Maybe they did wrong when they did nothing for the famine, but who do you think you, are blaming them for everything? There are always problems. You're deluded if you think they solve everything and stop every neopet from doing wrong. The faeries aren't all-powerful. Just because something goes wrong and it involves water doesn't mean they'll be able to fix it."
~*~
"Oh, hello, Miss Saeryennan." Jem nodded her head while depositing the clothes on the princess's bed. She reached over to stroke Calissa, but the snowbunny instead hopped up to the windowsill. "What's wrong, sweetie?" She cooed at the petpet. "Are there storm clouds out there?"

Calissa flapped her wings rapidly and was raised a little bit off the windowsill, still looking at the mountains. Xandra took a look as well.
"I think I see something up there..." she said. "I should tell Victor!" She picked up her skirts and headed back downstairs.

"I don't blame the Faeries. I merely question why they don't do such things, why they don't prevent families from being torn apart and the deaths of innocents." Hunter sighed.

"They do what they can under the circumstances," Anthy insisted, then pinched her forehead. "We're going in circles."

"Victor! Victor!"
Xandra panted as she stopped her feet in front of the Eyrie.
"Victor...I think th-there's someone on one of the mountains watching us..."

"Xandra," Victor said when the xweetok approached him, the eyrie was already leaving to Old Follies Farm, or else it'd be too dark to find his way back to his temporary home. That Moehog farmer didn't mind taking the eyrie in for a few weeks, but made clear that he wouldn't wake up to open the door for him to enter on the middle of the night. "is everything alright?"

"No..." she said. "Victor, Calissa saw something on the mountain. It looked like a dark figure. I don't think it is to be trusted."

"We aren't getting anywhere. That said, you can blame a friend of mine for my view on the faeries. His name is Zarkos." Hunter began rubbing two sticks together and tossed them on a pile of kindling he'd assembled. "He's the Grand Battlemaster of Maraqua." Hunter con tinued in his attempts to ignite a fire. "As a matter of fact, one of my other friends, Fang, suggested that the motto of our team should be 'We help because the Faeries don't.' I'm afraid I can't really say any more of his suggested motto, it was rather rude..."

(Dju, the villain isn't a barbarian any more. Now he's a sorceror. An ancient sorceror. He doesn't have any hordes... Yet.)

"It is," the Xweetok mumbled. She stood up and squatted by the woodpile, circling it from above with a paw. After some moments, sparks flew up and a modest fire formed in the pile. "I should apologize to her, but evidently now is not the time for it."

"We should get some rest. I'll keep watch and help you set up your tent before I head back to the palace." Hunter got up and started assembling her tent.
