The Artist was awakened by a strange feeling in the back of her head. It was like… an energy. It didn't feel exhilarating or anything, but it wasn't particularly painful either. It started out small, then quickly, suddenly, grew to an intensity that seemed to overwhelm her. A blur of swirling colors filled her vision, blocking out the everything else in her sight. Then, as quickly as it came, it subsided.
What was that? The Artist thought. The only remnant of it seemed to be a vague impression of the feeling in the back of her head, although maybe that was simply because the experience was fresh in her mind. She probably should have reported it to a nurse, but considering that anyone who the nurses took away to treat had no memory of the treatment, she felt nervous at the idea. It seems to be gone… I'll keep quiet about it for now. If it occurs again, I'll report it. …Maybe.
----------
The Artist didn't sleep as well as usual that night. The excitement from that strange experience in the night kept her awake. Eventually, when the room began to grow brighter, she decided to get up anyway, and take a walk around the halls of the asylum.
((Since the feelings are in the back of their heads, and I know that the visual cortex is in the back of the head, I thought it might make sense for her to see something. And considering what this character is like, the blur of colors seemed appropriate.))

Miri had been having her usual nice time. She was lying in bed, staring at anything interesting she could find, even if she had seen the same thing over and over before. Her eyes had since grown used to the dark. She never concerned herself over when she went to sleep; she knew that she'd eventually sleep anyway. She was also happy since no nurses were around at night. Sometimes, she'd even sneak away, unless she was too tired or she had been taken earlier. Miri was staring up, once more trying to see something through the annoyingly unclear window, when it happened.
There was something going on all over her brain and on her skin, kind of like a tingling, but the tingling was rather painful, like needles repeatedly poking her, with all the needles poking randomly. While the tingling at first wasn't so bad, it nevertheless surprised Miri to no end, and her eyes went wide open while she brought her legs to herself and rubbed her hands over her body, trying to stop the tingling. What she did didn't matter. The tingling got worse, and Miri started to sweat and panic a little. But it was worse in her brain. Miri's eyes started to heavily blur for a little while and she started to feel an intense pressure around her ears.
Then, as quickly as it came, it was gone.
Miri wrapped the covers on her bed tightly around her and started panting and shivering, mostly from the sheer fear she felt for the short, strange duration. She was mostly, however, confused; what just happened? She didn't think it was an illness... Maybe the nurses had something to do with it? Did they do stuff at night similar to things like this? But this has never happened before... Maybe it's a new procedure. Oh, Miri certainly hoped not! Unless it wasn't the nurses. Miri wasn't sure.
Miri could've gone back to sleep, but for all she knew, the nurses could be trying something right now. What if they were to decide to come and get her?! What if this was a sign that the nurses were about to take her, forever? While Miri wasn't positive it was the nurses' doing of what happened, they seemed evil enough for such a thing. And Miri couldn't stay here now... She had to hide. So, Miri got out of bed as soon as she got up. She quickly put on clothes and peered through the doorway, checking for nurses before sneaking out into the hallway. She went into the bathroom first, snuck back out, and then peered into the cafeteria to see if there were any nurses around. Miri didn't see any, so she rushed into the other wing and hid in the appropriate room. She dearly hoped that she wasn't followed and that she would make it...
((Funny... I almost typed "nurses" as "witches". XD
I had it in mind for Miri to know about the basement, since she's been here for most of her life...))

((He wouldn't experience pain like that, Sarn, just brief pain in the head.
... also, okay, Cyborg, it seems like the second half of your post doesn't count. xD; Or at least will have to wait for a few more "hours" when the nurses come for a wakeup call for everyone. ...I also might add for you that a nurse wouldn't be likely to look into Cain/Abel's room. They don't technically have to actually go in people's rooms to wake them up, after all, and considering your character's bad reputation I'd imagine they'd be happier leaving him alone.))
After a long moment of deliberation, Zander left the room, looking quickly from right to left and making his way to the courtyard. Though the night air was cool and refreshing and the place was empty, he didn't stay there long. For some reason, he felt as if the bizarre quake, as he'd begun thinking of it, had somehow come from someplace underground. There was really no basis for this assumption, beyond the association he'd made with earthquakes.
And really, he reflected as he walked quickly down the empty hall, he didn't have any reason to associate it with an earthquake either. The Asylum wasn't over a fault line, so there had been no earthquakes in his memory. He supposed it was just another bizarre remnant from his forgotten past, another stray nugget of knowledge that had unexpectedly drifted to the surface of his mind. It happened now and then, although he had so few links to the world outside the Asylum that it was quite unusual.
He had a vague idea of where he was going. While exploring the empty rooms, he had once come across a narrow, well-hidden spiral staircase descending into the blackness beneath the floor. This was clearly worth investigating, but as he had been climbing down he had seen a faraway light and heard unmistakable footsteps, and he'd retreated. More than likely he'd stumbled upon some Asylum secret, and he didn't care to find out what the staff would do to him. Now, though, it didn't seem probable that the mysterious lower level would be occupied, given the hour. He made his way to the spiral stair.
((Which is different than what Rain described, but of course there are a few different entrances to the underground level.
And I should clarify that the person/people he heard down there wasn't staff, just so y'all know. It was Nour. Or Miri. Staff are never in the basement.))

((Different entrances to the underground level? Okay, cool! It also makes things a little easier...))
Miri peered left and right down the wing before quickly and quietly hiding in the room. It was kind of like an abandoned library; there were a few bookcases on the wall and desks in the middle, but there wasn't much here. Everyone mostly went to the other rooms, with much more books in them. Miri also mostly went to other rooms, since they were more interesting, until one day.
A few years ago, Miri had been exploring the wing, knowing that there was more here than what she had originally seen. She had already spent hours going from room to room, looking around. In one particular room, she noticed something weird. One of the bookcases was turned in a manner so that Miri could fit in between the space. There was a wall behind this bookcase, but Miri had noticed that there was a smooth, vertical crack in the wall. When Miri pushed on it, the wall went inward a little bit. After much effort, Miri had managed to gather the strength to open the secret door, which seemed to lead to a deep tunnel. After walking down this tunnel for quite some time, Miri found a huge room, with many things scattered here and there. She has since returned repeatedly, partially because the basement seemed interesting to her, but mostly to hide from the nurses, since she never saw a single nurse in here. Though she occasionally saw another inmate in here, she usually never talked to them in the basement.
The basement was where Miri was heading now. Miri looked behind her very quickly as she pushed on the secret door, which she entered and quickly shut behind her before running down the tunnel. When she reached the basement, she grabbed a plush rabbit she had hid down here and went to sit in a corner. Miri felt confused from the event, but also a little cold. Of course, the Asylum was always rather cold, but she was also in her blankets at this time of night. But it was too late now. She had to hide... hide and think.

Fallon awoke after Hope had left. She had a terrible migraine.
"Hope?"she asked, and walked out to the hallway.
"HOPE?"she yelled down the hallway, hearing her voice echo.
She screamed in pain as the sound hurt her head. Her migraine was worse.
Fallon walked down the hallway to the cafeteria.

((Candy, the Riftquake wouldn't cause a migraine - just a quick, intense pain in the back of the head, and not even that for some.))

The sensation was dull at first.
Just a small, dull throbbing in M.P.G's head that awoke him from his sleep, which very quickly turned into an intense pain followed by disorientation. The sensation was brief, but it was enough to make him angry; angry enough to awaken the monster inside him.
G sat up in the bed, rubbing his head from the pain which had now suddenly ceased. He jumped out of bed, his feet landing with a loud thump. He then screamed at the top of his lungs, upward toward the ceiling, as if daring God to let him feel such pain again. G never had a reason for doing things; he just acted purely on his darkest impulses.
Quickly, he ran over to his door and opened it violently, his muscles tense with anger; anger at no one in particular, but anger at the universe for allowing his head to feel such pain and anger and M and P for keeping him out for so long. It was only a shame he could not harm those two without doing harm to himself.
He began to run down the hallway and through the courtyard, his instincts telling him to go downward. As he bolted down the dark corridors, he noticed Zander starting to go through a door and descend a spiral staircase.
G was outraged. Zander was going down the very area that G now suspected was the source of his pain; obviously Zander was the one responsible. Not bothering to think of the flaws in such logic, G stormed up to the inmate from behind and tackled him in the back, seeking to knock him down.

Zander hit the ground hard, gasping in surprise and pain. He hadn't been aware of the other man's approach until it was too late. Quickly he whipped around and lunged at his assailant, attempting to pin him down, his aggression suddenly rising.
"Did you feel it?" he demanded sharply. It didn't matter that it was G he was talking to, a man who was more likely to try and kill Zander than to answer his question. He was no longer thinking rationally, his anger aroused by the unexpected, painful attack. He was aware of his head throbbing, a dull ache completely unlike the pain induced by the quake, but ignored it. His head often started hurting when he was in a particularly aggressive rage, and he was used to it. Besides, he had hit his head rather hard on the floor when G tackled him.
((to make it perfectly clear, this headache is something specific to Zander and not Rift-related. XD *doesn't want any misunderstandings*))

Simon had awoken to a sharp pressure in the back of his head. It felt like something was pinching him there, but without the pain. He frowned and put a hand there, trying to feel for a source of it. The pinching began to grew in intensity, and he winced and sat up.
He looked around and realized that the room looked like it was shaking, but didn't feel like it was shaking.
Oh no. Not now. He didn't need to go insane in the middle of an insane asyl-
It stopped.
The room settled back to normal, and the pinching was gone.
Huh. That was strange. He was about to lie back down and go back to sleep when he heard what sounded like rapid footsteps and shouting outside. For a moment he pondered just hiding in his room until whatever was happening blew over, but decided that it would be better to know what was going on.
Simon stepped outside and saw Fallon going towards the cafeteria. "Fallon? What's going on?"

"Hope is gone. I can't find her. I think she went to the cafe, but I dont know. She usually wakes me up when she gets up,"Fallon said to Simon.
She knew Hope couldn't get past the nurses.
She put a hand to the back of her neck.
"Huh? The pain is gone,"she said.

Lost so deeply in his thoughts, Taliesin didn't comprehend the sounds coming from the hallway. He was still curled against the bathroom wall. Sounds of running footsteps, some voices, a great cry of utter rage. All of these noises filtered through the door which stood slightly ajar. Taliesin looked up and squinted into the darkened hallway beyond. When he saw nothing, he stood, pushed the door open and peered out.
One figure ran down the hallway while another stepped out from a bedroom further down and then another. Taliesin had not met these two, a man and a woman, neither could he imagine why so many inmates were out of bed. Perhaps this was normal, when the nurses were gone?
Or, said a voice in his head, they felt that tremor too.
The possibility intrigued him and he advanced down the corridor to where the man and the woman were.
"Huh? the pain is gone,"
"You felt it too?" asked Taliesin with no preamble.

Hope was staring up at the stars, feeling oddly restless, when she heard some commotion in the hallway. She stepped out of the courtyard and saw Fallon, Simon and the new patient from earlier. She waved hello, but found that waving made her feel even more disoriented. She could barely think straight. Her thoughts felt muffled, and she didn't like it. Hope shook her head vigourously.

"I felt...something. In the back of my head. It looked like everything was shaking." Maybe he wasn't going insane after all. "Where are the nurses? If they'd felt this they would have woken up. And is anybody else hearing noises from one of the other rooms?"
Down the hall, the courtyard door opened.
"There's Hope."

G was quite pleased that he had managed to knock the man down. Not that he expected not to, that is.
"Did you feel it?"
G gritted his teeth at the question as he pinned Zander to the floor. So, Zander was, indeed, responsible for the pain. How else would he know what G had felt in the first place?
"Feel it," G repeated, almost appearing calm at first. "Did I feel it." He wrapped his hands around Zander's neck. "DID I FEEL IT?!?" he said, now screaming at the top of his lungs and tightening his hands around the man's neck, attempting to cut off his air.
