I was just wondering if anyone else wrote or read listening to music. Over the years it has actually become hard for me not to read with music playing. One time while riding on a Charter Bus to the National Scout Jamboree I was told that it was wierd that I was reading Harry Potter (6), while listening to music, while paying attention to my friends' conversation, and giving them my attention. All the while I was making my way through the book at a good pace. Normally though I read in a secluded place so that I can have music going, find my pace, and just zip through the book. When writing I find it wierd to write without music also. I try to find music that helps inspire what I am writing though. So no slow paced song if it is an action, fast-pace, part of the story. I guess this may just be me, but I doubt it: I really have handicapped myself to writing or reading without listening to music. It kinda sucks because when there is no music, I start to fall asleep really quick. (Not good for me while I am in school )

I don't think it's weird; when I was writing my series Fyora and Jhudora: Secrets within the Clouds, I had a particular song in mind that I played to give myself inspiration (especially when Fyora and Jhudora are singing spells at each other). It's called Coro di Dea: downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/ah-my-goddess-the-movie-original-soundtrack/24.-coro-di-dea-megami-tachi-no-utagoe.mp3 And when I draw and color my artwork, I listen to music when what I'm working on has a certain feel to it that I want to express, that a certain song made me feel. Go with whatever works to help you

I love listening to music while I read. :3 My mom looks over at me and is like, "How do you do that?!"
Yeah..I'm kind of surprised it doesn't distract me, because I am an easily distracted person, but music while reading gets me more concentrated. Especially of the song matches the mood of the story. <3
I listen to music while I write, too, though sometimes it only works when I'm really into it. xD If I just try to start writing when I'm blasting music, I won't be able to churn anything out.

I absolutely canNOT read while listening to music, especially the kind I like - the kind with yrics. I end up half-concentrating on the lyrics and half-concentrating on the book/neopiantimes/whatever I was reading, and I don't get either the music or the reading xP. I'm ok if it's just instrumental music though, except I only do that if my parents force me to. I don't really write with music on..... I dunno why. Maybe I should try?

When I'm reading, I sometimes listen to music, although it's not often. When I'm writing, I usually listen to music

I occassionally write while listening to music, but I can't read to it. I'll start listening to the songs and then have no idea what I just read.

I don't write or read while listening to music, but sometimes, while reading/writing, I /enter/ my stories, if you know what I mean... Like I am a character, I mean. o.o;
Which is why I hate being interrupted when reading/writing. XD One moment, I am in another century, in the middle of a battle or something, and the next someone is yelling at me to do chores. >=0

I have a hard time focusing on more than one thing at a time. So no, I don't.

I don't have an Ipod and I can't exactly read in front of the computer so I only listen to music while writing. I find that it helps me concentrate on the story and some set the scene for my story (Seriously, Green Fields of France + The Last Draik= love at first sight XD)
If I run out of inspiraiton, music sometimes gives it to me or at least gives me something to do while I gather my ideas. ^^

I'm terribly fickle when I'm writing or reading. More for writing than reading, in the sense that I need total silence for it. Reading, I can cope with some instrumental music. I like it that way sometimes. But for writing, I absolutely cannot do with any form of sound, which makes it hard for me to write at any time of the day other than the early hours of the morning.

Music is my bane when it comes to writing and reading. XD I always manage to drift off listening to the music... or getting up and dancing... or something like that. I can almost never write. Reading, it's so-so. But both ways, I have to get pulled into what I'm doing and ignore the music, so both ways it's difficult for me to have music on. So distracting.

I'll often turn on iTunes while writing, or when I'm about to write. I find that, while I will occasionally get distracted by music, it helps keep me from getting bored, and I'll more easily stay in the mood to write. (It probably helps that most of my music is instrumental/video game soundtrack music; fewer words to distract me from the word I want to write.) I've actually made libraries which I will sort my music into by feel/genre, so that I can listen to music that fits the feel of what I'm writing. (Ever be in the middle of writing a happy scene and a sad song comes on that gets you out of the 'happy' feel?) I find it interesting how one song can seem to fit different feeling. I actually have at least one song that's in each of the the calm-happy, upbeat-happy, calm-sad, AND upbeat-sad categories, because I actually hear it as a bit of each.
I don't listen to music so much when reading, though I think I've occasionally read something from the Neopian Times while I still had iTunes playing.
The thing about reading/writing is that I tend to get so absorbed in the story that I 'zone-out' of everything else, so I actually won't notice anything else, unless maybe someone calls me, or I hear something loud. (I'm probably mostly listening to the music subconsciously while writing, but like I said, it keeps me from getting bored.)

I can't focus on music while reading. Writing is a different story. I listen to whatever I can get my hands on, and for some reason, The Last Fanfictioneers has become dependent on my supply of Nightwish songs smuggled into the country by the kid brother.

I always pick out a song or songs that remind me of the story I'm going to write when I write. It's nice to have something that gets me in that mindset, so no, it isn't weird at all. But when reading, I always focus on the lyrics of the song rather than the story. xD
