I was writing a story today...
This story is based on a real life happening I lived, but while the events are basically the same, I've changed the details around them, and I've made new characters. These characters represent me and other people involved, yes, but they aren't really us...
So I was wondering, is there a name for this kind of story? How can describe it to someone without having to explain all that? I feel like it's standing in the line between fiction and non-fiction and I can't figure out where it belongs. o-o
I'd really like to know, because it's a kind of story I really enjoy writing... so... yes. I was wondering if anyone could help me. ^^;

Fiction based on non - fiction? Hmmm what about fantasia effettivo or romanzo effettivo? The first means factual fantasy and the second factual fiction in Italian.

Maybe simply say "fiction that's based on a true story." I'm not sure there is a specific genre for that other than saying the genre it belongs in than adding the "based on a true story" bit. Like "sci-fi based on a true story" or fantasy or romance or whatever.

It would be realistic fiction, unless you are writing for the Times. Then it is? Reasiltic(ish)? Fiction.
