It's currently 8.5K words long but it is planned out to be 7 weeks running (7*1,500=10,500 words). It doesn't seem like much more words but the problem is that it is already divided into sections... 2 sections are under 700 words and 2 are over 2K words. I have completed the story and will not be extending the story line. So, my question is, how do you go about extending a story?
PS- At 22 pages in word this is THE longest thing I have ever written so I'm not all that experienced with typing up long things...
PPS- It's late and I've been up since 5 so any grammatical errors in her will have to stay until I'm awake enough to proofread this post. Thanks for understanding!

Was that typo on purpose or no? Well, maybe you can have the character (or characters) think about things some more, or delve into a memory? That's what I do a lot of times, but I'd really have to know more about the plot or something like that, and I'm sure you're probably no willing to give away anything ^-^

I will try to get those in there. And yeah, I want my first series to be a surprise.

It sounds like pacing is the problem, no? It might be that you're just moving the plot along at too fast a pace to work with the plotline (and part divisions) you've set up. I would try adding more character development into those spots that could use it. Flesh out your character's looks, ideals, thought processes, and reasonings on why they made the choices they did. ^^
Or...if you're unable to find a lot more to add...might I suggest reworking the plotline to make it fit into a 5 or 6 part series? I know there may be reasons for not doing this, but it is possible to redivide the plot points and use different parts as cliffhangers. I once compacted a series that was designed to be 12 parts to only 9 parts and the redivided series worked much better, both in where the divisions were and in each part's length. =)

It sounds to me like you need to stop and look at those chapters that are only around 700 words. There's nothing wrong with having a couple that are around 2000, but if you're only at 700, it's possible that either there wasn't really enough material there for a full chapter, or it's been passed over too quickly. Everything you add should have some purpose besides making the story longer. If you can, try to make what you add serve more than one purpose in the story: character development is good, but perhaps you can also make a transition smoother, or set up foreshadowing, or show the reader something you only mentioned in passing.

These are some very good points. I would not want to read something that has an excessive amount of information that didn't really do much for the story or the characters. Though I do not mind the occasion side stories, as long as they are funny. Though I do like when they add to the story. But Character development is always good.
