I generally think of it as a mix. While I haven't written any stories for the NT yet, I have made a somewhat-complete Neoadventure. (You can make it through the storyline, but there are several little side-things that I haven't finished yet) The character has a human owner, who has a part in the storyline. But there is a big part of the story (which I think I haven't written yet) where there are Neopet families. I think there was also a part in the Neoadventure where it mentioned 'some pets had owners, others didn't', but I don't remember exactly where that was, if I used it at all. Personally, in my comics which I'm going to do, I've decided to depict myself as a Zafara that tends to change color between comics and, possibly, sometimes turns into a human. (due to the fact that I probably can't use my forum-persona, since it's a non-existent color) I'm sure there will be at least one comic mentioning this.

Like most people here have already said, I usually think of it as a mix. Some pets have owners and some don't. It really depends. If I'm writing about some actual pets that exist on the site, they'll probably have whoever their owner is as an owner. But then if it's some Neopet character I just made up, they probably won't have an owner. Pretty simple, really.

I like writing stories where I'm in them. Really, I just see what fits the story. It doesn't really matter to me that much I guess, because I have certain character traits I like to put in anyway so if I'm not in them I'll probably just transfer them onto someone else. Usually I'll be the only person in the story, though, because my stories are mainly about pets that exist as part of Neopia (i.e. in the Explore-able world and characters and such) so they don't have owners.

I do write with owners, but they are never the main characters. A lot of the time, my stories are taking place in rather climactic situations, and since most of my pets can fly, it tends to lean toward the Darigan Citadel. I sometimes show up in the beginning of the story, but in my next story I will be gone for most of it because my pets travel in time to Ancient Neopia- NeoQuest Era. Obviously, humans were not present at that time. My view is, if it is difficult for humans to reach or not developed technologically, humans will most likely not be there. The exception is perhaps Meridell, because of all the fangirls for the characters that live there. Most of the time, humans are probably only found in Neopia Central, shops, or major sprts locations, such as the stadium where the Altador Cup takes place.

I've written both kinds. But there can be a pound in the petverse, except it's more like an orphanage.

I've written both, though usually I prefer the ownerverse. Mainly because I'm too used to using my pets' characters as children in anthro roleplays. ^^;

The one story (series) I'm working on is petverse. There I humanize them as much as possible. I prefer the term 'people' over 'pets', in a city, for example. I like the idea of Neopets with Neopet parents better than owners. As Tamia said, I don't like to have my characters overshadowed by owners. I don't have an emotional bond with my Neopets, actually. I don't include them in stories and it's just hard for me to think of them as something other than pixels. *toilet'd*

I really prefer petverse, mainly because I have enough of humans in Real Life and I can make use of the special abilities of pets (Which humans have wings and breathe fire?) Plus none of my ideas can comfortably house an owner, no matter how I try.

I vastly prefer petverse. I don't think I've ever written an ownerverse story before... Oh wait, yes, I have, but the mention of owners was brief and (in my opinion) actually took away from the atmosphere of the story. xD I prefer petverse because it gives more of a family-type atmosphere. With owners, it's hard to interpret whether they are "parents" (some pets call their owners "mom" or "dad") or whether they are just owners, who adopt these Neopets. And then, there are also hybrid universes, where Neopets can be parents and families but some still have owners... and that's all too confusing for me. I prefer petverse. It's simpler, and I find it easier to write. ^_^ Both are OK to read, though.

I call Neopets 'Neopians' as often as I can get away with it, because I don't really think of them as pets ... at all. I coulda sworn I'd posted here already ... anyway, I normally write a combination of the two. I'm okay with being a character in my own stories, seeing it's just my persona anyway; and my characters (the ones that I write about, anyway Still working on the other ones) are pretty strong-willed even if I'm there. It's not like I impose my will upon them. In my side-account pets, they hardly even know I'm there, I just visit occasionally, bringing the odd paint brush. But I do like Neopets to have Neopet families sometimes, for the sake of the story and their character. So, yes, a mixture of both.

I find that I use both from time to time, but I generally prefer writing in the petverse. I find that, when I write in the ownerverse, there are an awful lot of rules to avoid, such as explaining where the owner came from, focusing on the owner too much, etc.

Hmm very interesting topic! (Yes, I'm slow, I just discovered it...)
All of my short stories were about me and my pets, although I wrote in third person and referred to myself only as "Yoyote", with no physical description whatsoever. I don't think I used the term "owner" either - I just hinted that Yoyote was sort of a parental figure.
My series though was petverse. Although I did use the Pound in my very first section, Mijjol was adopted by another Neopet and not by an owner. Also, all the characters he encountered on his journey were Neopets, without owners.
And in my article, I appeared (in third person again) in my fully-imagined Neopian persona, which is a white Wocky with a pet kadoatie. I didn't have that persona earlier on, but I'm glad I avoided all physical description until I had my persona fully designed.
So, I think I've tried to avoid all discussion of owners, without realizing it until you brought this topic up. Now that I reflect on it, I do like the idea of a "pure", storylike Neopia, without people. Which makes Neopia unique - most other virtual worlds are populated by players, not characters. Now I've finally understood clearly why I left Runescape for Neopia. Thank you so much for this thread!

I never wanted my pets to call me Dad (it makes me feel old), so I instead have them call me either by my name or my username.

I'm more of a Petverse kind of person, probably because I'm horrible at drawing humans... XD With my style, I make myself one of my Neopets, namely Kyu, who just happens to play the father figure to the other pets, rather than an owner.

It really depends on the story I'm writing. I've written both, and I'd have to say I prefer Petverse, because often owners get in the way, and to me it makes the pets seem more needy and more animal. I like my pets to be human-like when I'm writing adventure stories. But I do like both, it just depends what I'm doing at the time.
