Okay, we all know that some NT stories are written where the neopets have owners, and in others, owners are never mentioned, and pretty much don't exist. In the 'petverse', the neopets can have parents that are neopets, instead of an owner. And the pound doesn't exist, obviously. My question is, which one do you like writing more? The 'petverse' or the 'ownerverse'? I'd have to say I like writing without owners better. Sometimes owners just get in the way and are annoying. XD Although most of the stories I've written are in ownerverse, I still like petverse a lot more, just because the world seems more... real, without... people. What about you? ^^

Well, for me, it really depends on the subject matter of the series/story I focus on.
In three of the series ideas I have planned (a superhero fantasy, a more general fantasy, and a sci-fi), owners basically don't exist. In fact, having owners in them would pretty much ruin the whole thing, because in all of the series the protagonists - and antagonists - are fully independant adults.
Aaand in my other idea, humans/owners do exist, but all of the primary characters are independant. Getting the "verses" to co-exist in a way that works is going to be really, really tricky. Then again, writing the thing as a whole is going to be difficult. >_>
...they're only ideas in my head but you get the basic idea, right?

I've always written a hybrid. A while ago, for one of my stories, I created a rule: Neopets were allowed to live on their own after the age of sixteen, or earlier if there was a responsible pet looking after them. So pet ownership is the norm, but other ways of living are completely accepted. It's worked fairly well. I don't feel there has to be an artificial division between a "petverse" and an "ownerverse"; after all, we would think that we live in an "ownerverse", but then there are sibling pairs like Jeran and Lisha, and all the main shops are run entirely by Neopets.

I figure it's a mix, myself. For instance, if I ever get around to writing the story about me and my Neopets moving up to the Darigan Citadel, some of our neighbors will be all-Neopet families.

Well, in my head, owners just don't exist in Neopia. It takes away from a story. I think Neopia should be like that book series Redwall, where that animals are like us and don't need humans to help them along. I don't mean to insult anyone who thinks otherwise, that's just my opinion.

Good for you. And I think Neopia should be the way I depict it, especially since that gives scope for more variety, and that it doesn't take away from the stories at all. Of course, I tend to be a little iffy on the "owner" terminology, and I do think it takes some skill and thought to reconcile the side of the site that tends to treat Neopets as, well, pets with the side that treats them as people.

I think of it as a hybrid, like Dream. On one hand you've got the plot characters, like Jeran and Lisha, and they frolic about without owners just fine. But on the other hand I can't rule out owners completely because of their involvement in the site (the constant address of "you" - you walk into the deserted tomb, you feed your pets.) I think of the relationship of owner and pet as a adoptive parent-child relationship. The pets were born (or hatched) from Neopet parents, but some were adopted by humans, and some stayed with their natural parents. =3

I don't know if I can claim which one I like, since I have only one story published, but...yeah. ^^ I like using the ownerverse, simply because you kinda need owners to have the Pound. ^^ But the Neopets have Neopets for parents, just with humans as owners. (Like what Jakie and Dream said). And some live on their own. Except my owners usually have less power than the Neopets. ^^ And there's been at least one story where Jeran and Lisha had an owner...I forgot who wrote it, but it involved a kyrii named Chuck as well, if I remember correctly...

[shadow=purple,left,300]I admit, I'm a very annoying owner in my stories. XDDDDD
As for me, it depends on the plot, and anyway, some pets get along fine without owners, while others need owners. It's all a matter of what the story is all about and whether a human (or humans) are needed to help the plot along.
It's fun to write both, anyhow. ^^; However, these days I've been dabbling a bit more into petverse stories. Well, it's good to try both.[/shadow]

I have more fun keeping it all Neopets. I've used owners in my stories when I was first starting out, but then (as I've just noticed xD) it's been all Neopets.
Petverse, ftw! ;D

I see it as a mix too. I believe in petverse mostly - pets run shops, live together as families etc. But, especially in Neopia Central, it's very common for pets to have owners/humans. I have a few groups that are just pets, and stories that revolve around pets and humans. And some of my stories are set in the times when there were no humans left in Neopia (in my history of Neopia )

Owners get in the way. The only owner I ever wrote was this really bland character in my series Teaching Mr. Bristle, and he was totally useless. That whole series was useless. XD
I prefer petverse. It's much easier for me to develop a Neopet character rather than a human, because I don't really have to describe their appearance. Like, it's a Lenny. Go look at what Lennies look like. </lazy>

Erm, I'm sadly uneducated and have never heard of those terms, but I'm a follower of petverse. Just personal preference. I guess one of the main reasons for it is that I like my pets to have strong, dynamic characters, and I don't want to overshadow them with a human presence -- especially my own. xD That's too far into the realm of wistful fanfiction for my tastes. But one of the things I like best about Neopian stories is that everyone pictures it a different way, and ends up building their own world for their writing -- wouldn't want it any differently.

I write both - when I ever do write. XD It really depends on the story - if I'm writing a story about my pets, I'd be included, naturally, although I generally refrain from making myself the main focus.
If I'm writing about a fantasy kinda story, it's generally either petverse or mixed.
So far, I think both my published comics have been ownerverse, though.
