I thought this could be an interesting topic. I'm sure we all have several favorite books now, but do you remember your first one? It might be one you don't like so much now but you did at the time, or it might be one you still love... In my case, it's one too simple for me now, but I still love it as much as I ever did, and I still have it. Let e show you a pic I took of it: There. ^__^ In English, it would be called something like "Little Ears makes a cake" It has a grand total of 10 pages or so, and on each one there's a huge pic and a couple of sentences underneath. XD I don't know how old I was when I first read it, but I was very young... it probably was my first book ever too, and I loved it! Want to share yours?

Bedtime for Frances by Russell Hoban... XD
It's the first book I remember reading as a kid and being obsessed with. It scared me, but for some reason I still loved it. I was a strange child. Anyway, I would I memorize the entire book, word-for-word, and then I'd recite it for my parents. I loved all the 'Frances' picture books, but that one especially sticks out in my mind. :3

I think my first one was James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. It was such an amazing book. I can remember reading it about five times more after I'd read it the first time. I liked a lot of his books. There was one about a family of foxes that I enjoyed reading. Fantastic Mr. Fox, that's what it called! Loved that one ^^

Harry the Dirty Dog. It's one of the first books I remember reading and I loved it. It's about a dog who buries his scrubbing brush and runs away from home because he doesn't like taking baths. He feels neglected after a while so he comes home, but his family doesn't recognize him because he's so dirty that he's changed "from a white dog with black spots to a black dog with white spots". So then he digs up the scrubbing brush and runs inside and jumps in the tub and gets washed and things and they recognize him and everyone lives happily ever after ^^

I'm pretty sure that mine was "Letters from Felix" a picture book about a girl's toy rabbit who got lost at the airport then travelled around the world sending postcards back to her owner. Best kids book ever.

My favorite book as a child was "The Tall Book of Make Believe" by Jane Warner and Garth Williams. Apparantly it sells for like, $300 now on eBay, whereas my dad's frumpy, scotch-taped-together 1950 copy still has the $5 price tag on it. It's sad that the price of the book has been so jacked up, because it really was a great little volume of stories and nursery rhymes in which future generations should wander.

Hm, I vaguely remember being obsessed with this book titled "The Egg" ("Muna" in Estonian). Another one of those children's books where there are more pictures than words, and it had cardboard pages and was a pretty small book, but I loved the pictures. T'was something about a chicken laying an egg for a kid and the kid was very happy. And so forth.
And I loved reading fairytales, mainly meaning old Estonian folktales. Read lots of these. (I actually have a picture of me reading one of those books as a kid but wise men say that laying one's eye on the horrible sight of a mini-Hunty can make you blind, so I'll spare you x3) But that was later on... the Egg book sticks out in my memory as one of the first books I read after learning to read, and that was very long time ago so it must've been special indeed.

I had the Tall Book of Make Believe, too! That book was awesome. It sells for that much? I think we gave it to my sister to read to her kids...but if I had it back, I don't think I'd sell it. I don't remember my first favorite book, unless it was Pat the Bunny...

My first favorite book ever was Corduroy. Haven't thought about it in a long time and now I'm going to be stuck with memories of teddy bears. Thank you.

My first favorite childhood book was the Rabbit and the Egg. I wouldn't know if it's a popular children's book or not, but I just remembered that I loved the colored pencil drawings of the rabbit.
And then there was Curious George.

My favorite book when I was a kid was The Rainbow Fish. It tells of a beautiful fish with all of these shiny, colored scales. He would not share the scales with the other fish in the sea, but in the end, he ends up giving all his scales away except for, like, one or two. It is such a cute story. I loved it.
