Crossbreeds? Aren't crossbreeds unable to reproduce. I know mules, ligers and other things are. Oh and the baby platipus is adorable! Well, there are some disputes in the taxonomy of certain species. For example, wolves and dogs are considered seperate species, and yet they can breed in nature and produce fertile offspring. This should make them the same species. This is because of the Biological Species Theory. It says that in order for two species to be different, they must be unable to produce fertile offspring with each other. Not all scientists believe that this theory is correct, so they ignore it. But to me, it makes some sense. I consider dogs and wolves to be the same species, just that wolves are an ancient breed of dogs.

Duck-Billed Platypi!!!! I luve them! I think they're the only poisonous mammal...as well as one of two egg-laying mammals. So unique! *huggles* A few years back, I had this obsession with recently-extinct animals. They were the ones who had just survive the dinosaurs and all the crazy weather conditions, but when humans began getting all their technologies and having wars and stuff they just couldn't make it and they just vanished. Here's a few I though were exceedingly cool: The Blue Antelope. Last one was seen in 1799. I just think the concept of a blue antelope is beyond cool. The Barbary Lion. This isn't exactly extinct, because there are a few lions that are crossbreeds between Barbary and regular (Like above), but they were just the most amazing cat! Their manes stretched all the way down their bellies and covered most of their backs...and were much shaggier and heavier then the plain lions you see on Discovery. In fact, their mane alone weighed up to 500lbs and could stretch ten feet (Imagine that...oo) The Quagga is actually trying to be revived at ht emoment. Since they died out so recently, Scientists have some good DNA samples and are trying to create hybrids. :3 They're neat though. Half zebra- half donkey kinda things. Harst's eagle was the largest eagle ever. Almost a Three meter wingspan...It preyed on Moas, another recently extinct animal, which was roughly the size of an ostrich. I love this bird! The Elephant Bird! Sometimes known as the inspiration for the legend of Roc. It was the largest bird ever: 11ft tall and weighing 1100 lbs. oo It laid eggs that were friggen huge.

There's a Barbary cross at one of the local zoos around here, he's a very handsome lion; looks like Mufasa He sired a snow-white cub as well, which I got to hold and take a picture with ;D she's turned tan since then, but I still have the picture.

Wow! Lucky! That picture really doesn't do them justice. I found other ones that showed how massive the radius of their mane was, but it didn't show it running down the entire length of their body. Gorgeous!!! I almost forgot to mention the Timbavati lions! They're white with blue eyes (Not albino. It's a gene. Much like the white tigers except much much rarer) Absolutely beautiful creatures...they're extinct in the wild and only twelve exsist in capivity. Luckily, strict breeding programs are helping them make a comeback.
