www.deviantart.com/view/4941179/Whee, this is my first attempt at shadowing in Corel Photo-Paint 10. I don't think it came out great, considering I did it in about 20 minutes, but I'm proud nonetheless Well, not really, but... uhm... Anyways, I was thinking about gryffins on a two-hour ride to a ski resort, and this pose just popped into my head. I sketched it quickly, before I forgot it, traced it onto Corel with my tablet, and shrunk it. This was actually kinda hard to do, 'cause I don't think Corel has layers, so I did this all on one layer. I love the airbrush Errr... I just realized I babble waaay too much. I'll stop now. Sooo... uhm... enjoy... or not...

It's pretty good. It looks all the legs are facing the same direction, though. Also, one of the lower legs looks a little faded on the outline. In the future, you might want to even out the blackness of your outlines.

The head is pretty good, but the anatomy, specifically the forelegs, seem a little skewed. Your griffin is facing straight front, but the body looked like that of a plucked chicken (no offense meant) Firstly, the forelegs are too front, and seem to be rather wierdly attached to the body. Try changing them to the sides instead. Same goes for the hind legs... they're rather wierdly attached. I'm not very good at griffins, or I'd do a rough sketch or something. As for the wings... good job in the posture, but bear in mind that wings are supported by two or three bones that come out from the shoulder blades. There are too many of the curvy feathery looking ones on the top part, making it look fake. A few are usually good enough. Shadowing the feathers would help as well. Do griffins have tails? I think so... but I'm not sure. Clouds are fairly good, though. Just work on the anatomy. I gave a full-blast critique where the artist didn't ask for one. I'm such a... umm... something wierd.

Thanks for all the help, you guys:) I really appreciate it. Heh, I realized that I'd left out the tail a little bit too late:) I'll take your suggestions and fix in when I'm not feeling zo lazy.

I might take a stab at redlining this later... that okay?

I might take a stab at redlining this later... that okay? Would it be okay? I'd appreciate it forever on! That would be completely awesome! I know it isn't a very good picture, but I'm just a psychotic eleven year-old.

I tried redlining just now, but it came out really, REALLY bad, and it would prolly hurt you more than help you, so I'm going to print it out and redline it on paper, it'll be much easier. However, this will mean that it may be a little while to get the redline scanned in and stuffs. Sorry about that. :/

That's okay:) Your being really nice by doing it, and I didn't even ask you to, so it doesn't matter how long you take. Thanks again!

Alrighty, here we go. The first thing I noticed was the pose- it's strange and doesn't look like he's flying, more like hovering in space and staring blankly. He face and feet are in profile, but his body and wings are straight on... this is very confusing, and altogether impossible. Pick a direction for him to face and stick with it. The wing and body anatomy is very off. Try finding some lion and eagle reference photos if you have trouble. Also, it helps to think of the wing as just one big arm covered in feathers- it has the same basic structure and moves the same way, except it has no fingers and is covered in feathers. The toes are also a little off- eagles have four toes and their talons are very large and curved. I noticed there's no shading on the white areas... it doesn't work with the rest of the picture, which is shaded. Continuity is a big issue here. Overall, you're good at surface details, but you need to pay more attention to the underlying anatomy and work more on dynamic and feasible poses. I see you're also still experimenting with lighting... Keep working at it, and be sure to draw from life a lot, it'll help your skills dramatically. Good luck, and don't be afraid to look up some reference pictures if you get stuck!
