[glow=red,2,300]MK, I know how you feel. But can we use the word "newbies" and not "n00bs"?
But yeah, the newbie-reg cycle does seem to be a bit... pointless. I mean, if you really love the Times, then you'll try to get in as many times as possible, am I right? And you'll become a regular.
We also have to remember that the NT isn't shutting out regulars completely. *shrug* i don't know what I'm trying to say. I yammer like a twit.[/glow]

Yes, I agree Rider. I know it's not Snowflake's fault. I just wish something could be done to remove the rule. It just doesn't seem fair.

1) Not all new authors are bad you guys, at least I don't think I'm that bad. ;D 2) I can't speak for snowflake, but I don't think that this means that you guys won't get in at all, I think it just means less. 3) As previously mentioned, I think/hope that snowflake will pick out of quality, it just means that newer writers will have more of an edge, maybe a couple more positions weekly will need to be filled by them.

I'd like to make another point. When you are a newbie writer to the NT, wouldn't it be better to get your piece in and sitting next to the articles, stories, comics, or serieses of your favourite authors because you worked hard on it and it was good enough to be amongst the greats, not because of some rule that means you should be put in because you are new to the NT? When I first got in, I was estatic that my comic would be right up there with the regulars. I was glad that it got in because it was good and I worked hard on it, I think some of that thrill would be taken away if I found out it was put in just because they are trying to fit in more new authors. There just wouldn't be as much satisfaction in it.
It's fun trying to fight your way in, and trying to establish yourself as a reg. Sure, it's great that they are giving more people a chance, but wasn't it great when you first got in, thinking about all those other comics yours was chosen over to be put into the limited space there was for new authors?

This bodes ill for me.
*sings dolefully*
15 series comic parts sitting in drawer One jumped off and ate a flower 14 series comic parts dancing on a tree One hopped down to make ten plus three 13 comic series parts is an unlucky number 'cause Crystal counted up them all to lose another brother 12 comic series parts is just one episode And last I counted I had 9 FREAKIN' EPISODES IN MIND! *bangs head*
I don't think Tweives will ever get into the NT now. Which is sad, because I've been drawing it off and on since the beginning of this year so I could submit it all at once and save Feli the what-if-I-don't-send-in-one-week thing.
*sigh*

Don't throw away your series, stories, comics or articles. They still have a chance of getting accepted, a good chance. I think that it is fair that people can't be in every single issue.

Not having the same Authors every week allows diffent mediums and levels that the neopian times expresses. Sticking to the same writers could, dare I say it, make it repetitive. Of course, I dont mind, Im like the BIGGEST reader of the Neopian times and I love to read the regulars. To some up, someone hit me.

The NT wouldn't be the same without The Pet Patrol Revolution or Really Confused etc but that doesn't mean that they need to be in there every week.

[glow=red,2,300]This isn't a question of ReallyConfused, TPPR, or any of that stuff, really. This isn't a question of, "OMG NOW THE TIMES IS GONNA BE LIKE BAD CUZ N00BS SUK!!"
This is a question of fairness. Equality. If (somehow) some ReallyConfused comics totally reeked of rotten Durian, I'd say "Feli, why in the name of flippin' Flotsams is that in there?" If (by some rare chance) Tomi somehow screwed up a TPPR, I'd say, "Begone comic! Bwa!"
If something of mine was terribly written and a little n00bish, and I sent it in without realizing, I'd hope Felicia would reject it and accept a better story instead.
It's all about fairness. Everyone playing on a level field.[/glow]

I'll admit-- I'm a trophy hound. BUT, the one thing I would keep doing even if there wasn't a trophy for it is the NT. (Which was kind of one of the metaphorical points that no one seemed to notice in "MaxKanine's Rowze"). As it is, we don't (normally) get monetary rewards or prizes like most of the other creative contests do, so that's something. But like I said, I think it's the addition of the avatar that's thrown everything off here. I wanted an NT avatar, but I didn't necessarily want it to be based on getting published. If you're a trophy hound, I'm a rabid trophy mutt in comparison. But the fascinating thing about all this is that in order to get the avatar, being published once is not enough. So the people who complain about not getting in because of "regulars" getting in, have to become multi-published in order to get the avatar themselves. Since this new policy favors first-timers, the avatar will be even HARDER to get. This is the paradox that not only affects everyone who submits to the Neopian Times, but hurts those who complained about it in the first place.

AHh, I'm sorry to hear it, however I agree with Tdyans that we can't assume that we are the only literate people in Neopia. You know, before you guys there were other writers, and after you will be other writes. ^_~ And, I'm sure, if it came down to a regular and an awful entry, Felicia would make a good choice. She's not doing it to be spiteful, and I trust that she will understand what is good content. Come on guys, she's just doing her job, and not everyone in Neopia chat-speaks. You were new once, and it's okay to make room for new people too. Who knows, perhaps someone which you think of as a n00b writer might soon be one of your best friends on the forum. I was once a n00b writer, Stone was, Tdyans was. We ALL were new at one point. The Time sisn't just ours so...yeah. ^_^; I think everyone agrees with this point Linny. As for "sucking it up", Teghan... yes, it is not now or has it ever been in our hands. Like Linny said, we have to trust Felicia to walk the razor's edge once again and balance quality with fairness within the guidelines of the often bizarre rules she must follow. I do not envy her for her job at all. We must support her fully in this. Felicia has always gone to bat for us in the past, I there is no doubt in my mind that she is still the best editor most of us will EVER have to work with.
