Hmm...I can't really remember. I remember trying to read Heidi aged 7. That was a big mistake. I read a lot of "Banana Books". They were different stories - just silly odd ones.

The first series of novels I read as a child was the Little House On the Prairie series by Laura Ingals Wilder. I still have the books (a rather nice boxed set) and I keep trying to get my kids to read them- but they don't like to read, alas. Let's see - I must have read them when I was ten, as I got them from the library at my old ballet school. They are good. Just leave the books lying around your kids bedrooms, if you're confident that they won'd lose/damage them. They probably know by now they exist, and now it's only a matter of subtle constant exposure before they are lured it ;D
