Laid-back, intelligent Kieron never wanted to be an adventurer like the rest of his family... until he met Saya, a hyperactive mage with a penchant for shiny objects. Now the reluctant archer finds himself on a whirlwind tour of the world of Tarashia as the unlikely duo travel in search of fame, treasure, and excitement. Then they stumble upon a mysterious group that calls itself the Alters, who seem to possess a power unlike any they've ever seen before, and two newcomers - a devious thief named Kale and an uptight, honorable warrior called Kestrel - attach themselves to Kieron's little party. Traveling Tarashia with such a party, how will Kieron be able to keep his sanity intact and investigate the origins of the ominous Alters? Only time will tell... The Alter Effect is an ongoing story chronicling the adventures of Kieron, Saya, Kale and Kestrel in a world loosely based on fantasy MMORPG conventions. Update schedule is going to fluctuate a little, but hopefully I'll eventually be able to update this once a week. Enjoy! *C&P'd from my LJ because I'm lazy* ^_^ If any of you are familiar with Langley's Ark, this would be something along the same lines. It's not a novel, nor is it a webcomic - though it might end up partially illustrated, who knows. The chapters will be posted on my LiveJournal. =D Chapter 1

I'm going to comment here because it's easier. xD
The story's nicely written, but the constant talk of levels and abilities and suchlike throw be out of it. It's.. well, it feels more like a parody than a story, I guess. I mean, it does follow the MMORPG stuff, as you said it would, but it doesn't feel right. I can't really explain it. And.. yeah. I do like the characters, though. Saya reminds me of my Kakara, to a certain extent. xD ..I can't really say anything else at this point, but I would like to read more.

Well, the original plan of Tarashia was "What if there was a fantasy world that followed all the rules of MMORPGs?" So yep, that is what I'm going for... although in some cases it will be hard to work out, but essentially all the elements of that world are draw on that, including the Alters. *nodnod* Thanks for reading, though. =D I will definitely need the critique.
