Reasons
TormundTormund is my favorite partly because of his story and character. Tropey as it is, I love the kind of story of starting from an incredibly humble beginning as a farm hand to becoming a true hero through good heart and brave deeds. Plus he's got a little bit of that determined nature to follow his dream more than anything. But the element that helps seal it is simply that we get to follow that journey every step of the way in the most intimate medium that Neopets has allowed us to follow a lore character: Controlling them in a 3D adventure game with a defined narrative and story. Because it's an adventure game, we get to see a lot more tiny interactions, like helping NPC's with side quests. We get to explore his home on the farm, see how much he cares for his sister to venture into the Shadowglen woods, how his neighbors in the surrounding farms know him and speak with him. Seeing these tiny aspects, and being able to project part of yourself onto a character like him as you follow their journey forms a unique bond with the character that the others can't quite capture just due to the medium that other Neopets material is presented in.
Roberta gets my honorable mention for pretty much all the same reasons, but Tor had a better story and was more fun to play as. That said, the two together are by far my favorite Neopian duo and I really hope we get to see them in a Neopian narrative at some point in a way that isn't just reducing them to cameos. It was nuts that the Darkest Faerie's big return didn't have so much as a peep from the two heroes that vanquished her the first time.
King Altador
King Altador is a character who has been featured in many things. He was a pivotal figure in the aforementioned Darkest Faerie game, he was the wise King who helped formulate the convoluted steps of the Altador Plot with faith that a hero could solve it, and he was one of the returning heroes featured in the Faerie's Ruin Plot. He is a character that is elevated by the mysterious and awesome lore around him. Altador the land has been fleshed out in both the Darkest Faerie game, and the Altador Plot. Between those two things and its inherent ties to one of the most notorious Neopian Villains, it has maybe some of the coolest lore out of any land. He is depicted as a wise and just ruler with a faithful disposition, believing in the strength of others to do what needs to be done. This persona, combined with the lore of the land he created makes King Altador become a larger than life hero character.
He is Neopia's equivalent to a character like World of Warcraft's Thrall. A Powerful and respected ruler who seems too strong, too legendary, too important to ever fail. There's a few characters which carry that vibe to them, but none of them feel quite as grandiose as King Altador except perhaps Fyora, but the fact that Altador reaches a similar peak despite being just a Neopet and not a demigod-like being makes him cooler.
Hanso
There's not a ton to say because I feel like Hanso doesn't need all that much explaining. The Loveable rogue is such a fun character archetype and they nailed it with Hanso. He had such amazing writing and a fantastically presented personality, and it's all accompanied by fantastic character development. All those amazing traits become more accentuated for a similar reason to Tor, which is that for a majority of the events in The Faerie's Ruin, we played as Hanso and helped him along his journey. It's not something quite as intimate as the immersion you get with a full 3D adventure game, but it definitely aids in getting closer to the character.
