For now I've given up on having a custom thumbnail. Mentioning something is part of a theme issue, adding a description, and crediting a collaborator already requires some creative trimming for everything to fit. Last submission I tried mentioning the thumbnail in the title of entry, but hearing that's not getting deleted (maybe something changed and they can't edit them?) means I guess its just gonna have to be what it is. Bummer, since I love seeing the custom thumbs and wanted to include mine.

Ah dang, that explains it. Thank you so much for letting me know that! I wish I'd known before submitting and/or had put the url in the box (LIKE I WAS PLANNING TO DO before I got so delighted there was a way to submit the thumbnail on its own xD;). It... would definitely be nice if they removed that part of the form or let us know that it wasn't working, rofl. Hoping there is still a chance of getting it changed after publication... Yep, you just perfectly summed up the whole problem with the character limit OTL. I had the label removed from the title as recently as three issues ago, so I assumed it would keep being removed in the future. I'll be putting it in the comments from now on for sure. I wish I'd chosen to do something as unobtrusive as the label on yours and others' entries, but I've always done the all caps thing. I also submitted it extremely close to the deadline, so there might not have been time to remove it. xD; If it makes it any better, I don't find the label on others' entries distracting, just mine lol. I messaged tnt_stone, which they contacted me from before. It's the weekend though so they may not have had time to answer (though I did send it on Friday). They actually gave me their discord but I am discord illiterate and don't know how to contact them there because they're not on my friends list oTL No problem! But yeah, it's unfortunate there's no where on site that lets you know that </3 There might be an Editorial question that talks about the broken submission box, but it'd be great if the form itself mentioned it.
This did remind me to update this thread on the forum that gives NT tips that may not be easily found on Neopets itself, though, in case it has anymore information that could be useful to you!
Gotcha, cool! Just wanted to check since for so long it was nt_editor that we would message for any NT questions or fixes, and they transitioned away from that account back in 2020. Like Ian said, though, they seem to prefer questions being submitted to the Editorial, buuuut I wouldn't consider tnt_stone completely off limits right now For some reason I want to say they've still responded to people via neomail since this Editorial, but even if not, I figure it doesn't hurt to send them a message anyway for a potentially quicker response!
I'm in the same spot as you regarding their Discord contact, though! I technically have their info, but I cannot figure out how to DM them without having them on my friends list. I think a couple of forumers have messaged them via Discord before, though. Carolyn Geo 🇺🇦 🌻 have either of you DM'd Stone on Discord before, and if so, how did you initiate this?

I have DM’d Stone by sending a message to the user tnt_stone. I did this by joining Neocord first and then typing tnt_stone into the “Find or start conversation” field. It should automatically pop up after the first few letters.

I wonder if Stone may not be in the Neocord server anymore or something. When I go to search their name, nothing comes up for me, which makes me think that we don't have any mutual servers.

This is interesting because I messaged Stone a couple of weeks ago and discord claims they and I share r/Neopets as a mutual server.

This is mysterious- when I search their name on both my laptop and phone, Discord doesn't pull them up. I'm not sure what's happening on my end that's keeping me from messaging them

I did a brief search for them on the Neopets discord, but didn't find them. All I can figure is that either they left the server or they changed their screenname for privacy? I dunno. This is just speculation. I'm presuming from the fact that Twillie and Geo have chat histories with them that they didn't just delete their Discord account.
Can't say I know any other way to contact them; I've never tried.

Yeah, the odd part is I searched them three weeks ago to give them advice on how to detect AI written stories and they came up.

It's odd. I don't see any posts from them in the server, but I think they're still there? It could be a privacy setting thing, unsure. But they do readily reply to Neomail, from what I've seen, at tnt_stone.

I just checked right now (7:40pm NST) and they are in the server, as tnt_stone. When I click their profile, it says we share a server as well. I have never tried DMing them on Discord, though.

So contacting the editor is a big ol' game of guesswork and sniping, then? I fired off a neomail to tnt_stone a few weeks back about my overwritten comic. No response. Then sent the same thing to the editorial, still nothing so far. I should probably start keeping tabs on when I send a given message, check back each new issue if it's been replied to and/or if the comic has been fixed, and if not, just resend weekly, right?

I recall them mentioning that they won't be making changes to older entries unless there's a major editing error. I'd say fire off another NM and hopefully they'll reply soon.

Yeah, I saw that part too, and sent my initial messages with the reasoning that having my comic replaced with someone else's should constitute a pretty major editing error (or at least if it doesn't, then what even would?) It's inevitably a bit disheartening that it's the sort of thing I seem to need to set weekly timers to keep track of, because on the one hand there's a point where "they're probably busy, let's give it time" transforms into "it's been like five weeks and no word back", but on the other hand it just feels wrong to be spamming the neomail and editorial with the same copy-paste text week after week in the hopes of hearing something back eventually.

Thank you to everyone who replied to help and get information out about this issue! I really appreciate it! It's sounding like this is my bad for not thinking to look up old forum threads and/or ask anyone and making the error of assuming the submission form was working. Well, now I know! Ultimately, the title and thumbnail aren't so much of an issue since once the issue passes, people probably will get to it by direct link and won't look at the thumbnail anyway. At least the image file itself went through correctly, so I count myself glad about that. Ah yeah, that was another change made at the same time as the other rule changes. Apparently, any major problems will need to be addressed via the Editorial and not via Neomail. Ahh I see, got it. Dang, I'd feel pretty weird asking for a small individual fix through the public Editorial, so I think I'd just accept it rather than try to pester them further. Oh no, I want to see your custom thumb too! D: I love the custom thumbs too and it makes it easier to find recurring comics, makes it feel like they have a sort of brand. That character limit needs to be so much longer!! This did remind me to update this thread on the forum that gives NT tips that may not be easily found on Neopets itself, though, in case it has anymore information that could be useful to you! That's super helpful, thank you for the link! I remember being one of the people who knew all the "secret" rules back in the day, but now I'm feeling a taste of how frustrating it must have been for people who didn't know how to find all that hidden information. I'm glad to see there's still a secret rulebook floating around for the modern NT! I think a couple of forumers have messaged them via Discord before, though. OH THANK YOU I'M SO GLAD IT'S NOT JUST ME XDD;;; Discord is too fast-paced for me and I feel like a noob on it lol, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's had trouble contacting them there! And good to know about their preference regarding the Editorial! Thanks to everyone who put in sharing their experiences of trying to get in contact on Discord, it's all great to know! I recall them mentioning that they won't be making changes to older entries unless there's a major editing error. Ahh right, I recall that blanket rule from this thread as well. Sounds like I'll be accepting it and letting this go then, since the thumbnail/title aren't even part of the entry itself. Yeah, I saw that part too, and sent my initial messages with the reasoning that having my comic replaced with someone else's should constitute a pretty major editing error (or at least if it doesn't, then what even would?) Uhhhh yeah that's a really major error, all right. :x That... actually puts me off submitting a little, if something that serious can go by for so long unchecked (and put such frustrating demands on your own time). Not being able to edit any publication errors in your work, or even be sure that it is your work, makes it a bit nerve-wracking to see what happens after you submit...

As someone who ran a 7 part series of short stories, I wonder about the impact that will have on people who want to write ongoing stories, but don't want to commit to the long series format (having to write the whole thing at once)
Sure it was a semi foolish thing to do, writing the train tracks underneath of me as the train kept chugging along, but it was a good motivator to keep writing!
I guess my plan for the next part of the story will be relegated to writing the whole thing at once, and then publishing. It's harder to motivate myself to do the WHOLE thing at once without getting the feedback. haha.
