I get you guys. Treating UCs (or any neopets, really) as commodities or collectibles has never appealed to me. But if people are trading legitimately, well, it's just a different way of playing the game. To each their own.
The black market of people hacking into accounts to steal pets and sell them for irl money is disgusting, though. I'm in favor of anything that cuts down on that. I say good on TNT for creating new UCs for people who thought they were trading legitimately. they don't deserve to be punished because of the people that don't follow the rules. This is why we can't have nice things...
I know it's easy for me to say, because I have no stake on it, but.. I'm all for making UCs less exclusive. While a lot of people genuinely love UCs (what's not to love? they're beautiful honestly), I wonder how many are into them just because of how exclusive they are, and might not be as interested in them if they weren't as elusive. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean, part of it is making nice backgrounds and foregrounds that work for UC pets (because they sometimes kind of hover with certain BGs) and if they made items that catered to UCs and worked especially well with say, UC Faeries or Royals or Darigans, people *would* buy that for sure.
If (legit) pet trading makes folks happy, yay for them. I'm glad y'all posted that before. It's not my jam, but I know it definitely is for quite a few folks.
The illicit selling of pets on the black market is dreadful and absolutely needs to be mitigated. Some folks were telling me that a royal UC could cost someone 500$--it blows my mind. And it absolutely encourages hackers to sell accounts or pets to make a killing of money from desperate people who feel that they'll never get their dream pet otherwise. When you see how many hours and hours folks put into those project pages in the sliver of hope that they'll get their UC Royal Lupe... it makes sense as to why there's a market. It's a terrible thing, but I can see why there's a demand.

to be honest, I think UC pets should be rendered untradable, or be given a special medal and then converted. the pound chat is absolute chaos nowadays. ... wow, who brought the dessert out of the fridge? I haven't chatted here in ages. Hayati, it's been a while! You gotta show up here more often or I WILL MAKE YOU. Anyway, back on-topic, I agree that the pound chat is absolute chaos. I know because I tried to advertise in there for the Caption Competition. YOU CAN'T MAKE ME! -jumps out of the nearest window- but yeah, Pound chat is extremely toxic. its dog eat dog to its barest essentials. if you don't have a UC pet, you don't matter. the only way you matter without a UC pet is if you have a really strong battledome pet, a pet that is a real word or name that people care about, or is so unique that people would go head over heels to get. Not to mention the aforementioned black market. I feel that while a LOT of the old school base would leave if UC pets were rendered untradable without being converted, It could drive away a ton of Old school players, but also help end a lot of toxicity. also, people trying to trade "Formerly UC Krawk"s would be hilarious because they couldn't acronym it. On the whole, TNT said right at the 2007 layout began that UC pets were grandfathered in. it means that TNT can do whatever they want with them at any time.

In additional bizarre news, some crazy chaotic-neutral jackwagon figured out an exploit to unconvert pets themselves and apparently released close to 3000 of them into the wild.
I can't even. Never change, Neopets.

Well, they finally confirmed that they're working on something for uncoverted pets. Definitely a marked departure from their previous stance.

If nothing else, this whole situation puts into the forefront just how much a solution is needed to the UC problem. Because left alone... well. You get all of the above from this board: black market, hacking and scamming, and erm, chaotic neutral folks who uncovert pets on a glitch

yeah, something DESPERATELY needs to be done about UCs. the fact that polygon of all people made an article about it exemplifies the situation. I don't think offering a Neocash option would be a good idea though. still, I bet that would draw in massive amounts of cash.

Ugh, the argument about people wanting their "authentic" UCs to be distinguishable from any newly created UCs is starting to get annoying. Posted this on JN to someone's response of me saying "authentic" UCs shouldn't get a special mark just because they weren't:

~authentic~
Imagine me saying that in the most sarcastic tone I can muster.
People who won't budge on wanting their UCs ~distinguished~ (again, insert sar-Kat-stic tone here) from UCs that will become more accessible clearly only view their UCs as status symbols, not pets they cherish or characters they want to flesh out.

^ Which sounds pretty weird / ironic to me, as all the applications for Unconverted pets that I've seen seemed to be about proving just how much the candidate would cherish the pet and make art of them and write lore for them and whatnot??
I get that the steps of acquiring an unconverted pet for the past years have been infernal and frustrating, but that's no excuse to try to rain on the future parade of future users who might get future unconverteds at some uncertain unconfirmed point in time.
This is such an opportunity for trolling, though. Like, imagine if staff does put a SPESHUL token on all the ~authentic~ unconverteds that exist currently, before any new releases or reformation of the system... except the token is horribly ugly.

I can't tell you how happy I am to see a system in place that'll counteract the black market and make it less of a status symbol to own an UC. Some of us just want our cute older artwork to enjoy (and don't care about the names.) If Royal UCs are on the table, I love the artwork--it's so nice. But I don't want to trade my left kidney for one.
