Advent Calendar \o/ I've been looking forward to this for a while now, it's finally here!
For day 1, I think I can see where this storyline is going x3 The animation also looks pretty nice, in that it looks like they drew new character assets and the movement is smooth and makes sense.

Day 2You find 716 Neopoints!!! You find a Xweetok Comb and Mirror!!!  You also find a Xweetok Stocking!!!  The snowglobe is on the wall after they exchange their gifts. You find 588 Neopoints!!! You find a Miniature Coffin of Count von Roo!!!  You also find a Count von Roo Plushie!!!  The snowglobe is right at the beginning; it's hard to miss.

Augh, this works horribly on mobile. The animations do play, but don't show up fully in portrait or landscape mode, you need to slide around a bunch to click the prize button, and I don't even bother with the in-animation easter eggs. I resolved to do the Advent Calendar on mobile this year, because I get so little computer time that I'd have to skip or just forget half of the days otherwise, but for a site that should be rolling out a mobile version aaaany minute now, this is about as well thought out as a brick pillow.

Good, I need someplace to vent.  DAY 1 & 2: The Gift Of the Magi, Unintended Brucey B Edition
ANIMATION: Combining both since they're a part 1 & 2... Actually let's talk about that for a moment. At first I thought, due to the transition, this was likely going to be the gimmick of this year's Advent Calendar, having animations split into multiple parts. It would save them time in both having to come up with story ideas & art assets, giving them more time with the transition. But nope, it looks like this was a one and done thing. Like, why do it then? Granted, it's still early to really say if they won't do more, but would feel very odd for them to have more yet then stick 3 self-contained animations after it.
So, onto this specific animation. Now, overall it's an alright visual re-telling of The Gift & The Magi. But, why is Brucey B in it? "Oh, well usually whenever something adapts The Gift & The Magi they change the valued items & gifts". Except JS didn't do that, Brucey B was given the watch he exchanges for combs and the unknown female Xweetok sells her hair so she could buy a watch chain. They could have completely replaced Brucey B and the story would be no different, heck may even be better as you wouldn't have people wondering why Brucey B is there for no apparent reason. Also, if they did change up the items, would they have had Brucey B give up his Lucky Coin? That would have made even less sense and be WAY out of character. No, Brucey B shouldn't have been there. They have ton of basic character assets they could have used, why go out of their way to use Brucey B?
GIFTS: All junk.
Why isn't the Bruce Watchchain a holdable trinket?
Why isn't the Christmas Wig Stand a foreground wearable?
Why can't you open up the Xweetok Stocking to be given items like other stockings do? Also its description points out that, even though the Xweetok cut her hair short, she could still use the combs on her tail, so that kind of defeats the lesson of the story.
Only one that's fine is the Xweetok Comb & Mirror being a Grooming item.
DAY 3: Crypt Sweet Crypt
ANIMATION: Eh, guess this one is also alright. I know people on the Neoboards are nitpicking it to death but I made a narrative that makes sense: Von Roo wakes up realizing its the holidays and sees how dreary his crypt looks. So he decorates it, maybe not knowing how it'll look next night when he wakes up, and happily sees all his work decorating his crypt paid off as it looks festive for the season. Make no sense? Well JS didn't put much thought into either so why should I?
GIFTS: The mini coffin is cute though I think some may have some problems finding a place for it in a customization, like I think a normal sized coffin in the foreground would have had more customization options.
And then we have the Count Von Roo Plushie. It's description reads "First the Count, then the stamp, then the stamp of the plushie, and finally the plushie!". JS, did you really think there wasn't a Count Von Roo Plushie? Did you just type in "Count Von Roo Plushie" in JN's Item Database, found nothing, and went ahead to make the plushie. Despite the plushie being RIGHT THERE ON THE STAMP, that wasn't enough of a clue maybe you should do some more research? Like just search for "Von Roo" in the JN Item Database? *SIGH*
DAY 4: Lego Nox & Spoopy Tree
ANIMATION: WHAT'S WRONG WITH NOX?! Why does he look like he's made of Lego? Also why doesn't he look like a ghost? Seriously, this looks like an early draft of what the animation is supposed to be but then someone went "don't have time to fix it, just post it as is"! And yes, it doesn't make sense Nox would be scared of one of the haunted trees, just don't think about it and pretend it's another ghost or whatever else and it's a silly scene of it planning to do a jump scare but it got jump scare instead. *SIGH*
GIFTS: Guess they're both fine, though the Nox one I felt could have been made into a lantern holdable object. Not sure how much use you'll get from such a giant trinket sitting in the right corner.
DAY 5: Limebeard Stole The Black Pawkeet
ANIMATION: So there's two major things wrong about this:
1. So the Black Pawkeet is now in ownership of a group of Fruit Chia (is that supposed to be like Captain Limebeard's crew)? For those who don't know, the Black Pawkeet is GARIN'S SHIP! So, yeah, it's a recognizable ship. You couldn't use Garin & his crew? Or, if you want Limebeard's crew, used another ship (at the very least remove the Pawkeet face to make it a generic ship).
2. CHIA DON'T OPEN THEIR EYES! JS, why do you keep making that mistake? What reference art are you looking at that shows a Chia with open eyes?
GIFTS: Wearable is alright if you want to have a holiday/festive pirate customization. Cutlass is junk weapon, surprise!
EDIT: BONUS MISTAKE: So the frame this year features a human Santa & normal reindeer (heck, you could also say the gingerbread man is wrong as TNT would have used a Jinjah). |

Day 5You find 600 Neopoints!!! You find a Pirate Lights Garland!!!  You also find a Festive Cutlass!!!  The snowglobe is floating in the water super visibly and is also hard to miss. doing these helps remind me to actually check back every day lol

Hanso in the animation today...! Too much to hope that there’d be a related item though, huh? ^^;
...This probably lessens the chance for a Brynnso animation, but maybe there’s still a small hope for Brynn herself. :3
Also, I’ve been enjoying the prizes this year. The art quality has been pretty nice. ^^ |
