What is NaNo? It's short for NaNoWriMo, which is short for National Novel Writing Month. It's a month dedicated to helping people write and maybe create their first novel in one month. The website for the event is here. The goal stated by the site is basically to create a novel, which in their terms, is about 50,000 words, in one month. That's 1667 words per day. However, you can play this loosely, by just working on a novel you wanted to work on to whatever length, or any WIP, or basically just anything writing. You can also set your own goal if you want. If you do sign up on the site, it will set the goal of 50,000 words per month for you. But just do whatever you feel is best for the project! Here is where you can chat about general NaNo things, whatever it may be, separate from your own NaNo thread! Talk about something going on in your writing! Talk about others'! Cheer each other one! Any little thing about NaNo, this is the thread for it.

hm usually i start some silly project for nano but this year, really not feeling it. might instead go for the more humble goal of creating a "writing thread" and posting things in it.

That would be awesome Moni, you totally should! =D
I wanna do something as well...I dunno what yet and we're two days out. Maybe I'll finally redraft that novella again. Maybe I'll just...do all the OCtober prompts I missed, I dunno. I'll do something. xD

Hopefully, none of you who also did OCtober (or its varients) will be burnt out once NaNo starts

I'm doing a fun Nano this year. I've done it since 2010 and won 9 times with serious projects, but this year I'm just going to write whatever nonsense I can. I'll random grab prompts whenever I feel like it and implement them no matter how little they make sense.

First day of NaNo!
I have gotten... not super far! Just kind of torn between several things, and then I spent time looking up one detail. But I've got 352 words, and I figured out that detail (I think)! Plus, I'm pretty sure what I'm typing about now will lead to me doing some image formatting, so that should help with my goal too.
1000 words may be too big, I'm realizing, since it's also a lot of think-y work. Maybe I'll do 500-750 instead.
But it's good to have this sort of motivator; gets me actually writing instead of just thinking about writing!
I was also encouraged to go at my thesis in sections, rather than the whole thing. I realized that Methods is generally my first thing to do, because I write that on the fly anyway, and I just update as I go further in research. So eventually I run out of things to say, and then I go to the introduction or another task! But I've been behind on writing, so it'll probably be a lot of reading writing and citing. So yeah, I guess introduction time!
