Few updates on the Philippine political climate as the election is less than a month away.
- Marcos Jr.'s survey numbers have gone down but he still has a majority. Robredo's numbers have gone up a little, but they are pointing to an upward momentum. - One of Robredo's rallies in a province reached numbers of 220,000 - a province which is the bailiwick of one of Marcos and Duterte's allies. - More politicians, artists and others are pledging their support for Robredo. - A NSFNTWF scandal was on the Internet involving one of Robredo's daughters. It's fake, of course, and we are condemning it, but people are claiming it's just a ploy and Robredo would actually use her children to frame her rival. Um. Someone please tell me where this logic is coming from.
But it's still heartbreaking how many people have closed their minds to knowing more about Robredo and her track record of public service and skill. Some people are also noting that because Robredo will be very strict with government procurement and procedures and enforcement of law, others do not want to vote for her because they can no longer do backdoor transactions or profit from illegal logging and mining or profit from the high exchange rate of dollars to pesos. Imagine, people choosing to enrich themselves even if it means electing a lawbreaker into office.
Plus, with the Catholic Church becoming more vocal, people are whining about how priests and churches are telling them not to vote for robbers and that it is bad to steal. Um, it really is?? And they're literally not saying that it's Marcos Jr. they're referring to??? Or do you think the Ten Commandments are just the Ten Suggestions?

Honestly, it's hard to say anything. Ukrainians are obviously going to be pretty dang quiet about all this if it is them, and if it's a false flag, well, Russians have proven their false flags do not consider logic or sanity. If you're curious or need a good laugh, look up "Signature is illegible Ukrainian Neo Nazi" for a good laugh. Can't post, because, uh, Nazi imagery, but it is hilarious. Just came up today too. That said, in my opinion, this is real. I don't know if it was caused by Ukrainians, that's the only thing, or by internal saboteurs, or it was an accident and the Bayraktar that was planted was just face saving by the Russians. But an actual legit false flag would not target oil supplies that they need. It would target civilians in some spectacular manner. Because your average person does not care about oil, but the powers that be really do. They need that stuff. It could be sabotague. There's been a lot of really suspicious fires and derailments lately all over Russia with no obvious cause. But I am very cynical of Russians being able to stand up and do the right thing, so I will need more evidence. Finally, if it was Ukraine, it benefits them to be low key about it. Hint that it was them, but don't give the enemy propaganda good soundbites. Just enough for their populace to go "holy cow, how did they manage to do this, what is our army doing?!". Which, by the way, the populace is. c: EDIT: Mum's take on all this: there have been a lot of Ukrainian deportations into Russian territory. It's entirely possible some of them are either agents who faked being civilians, or civilians who are very angry or a bit of both. So the Russians might be shooting themselves in the foot there too.

In other news, billionaire Elon Musk and Twitter have reached an agreement to allow Musk to take Twitter private. www.axios.com/twitter-elon-musk-deal-065c90cd-d584-4126-b5c1-457f2591b792.htmlI don’t believe for a second that is all about free speech and even if it is, I’m not sure it is a good place for actual civil discourse. Sounds like it’ll just end up being more of a cesspool. But it feels like it’s about money and influence, and probably our data. I don’t need the negativity in my life so I think I may just suspend my account at some point. Depends on what changes he makes I suppose.

Hang on, hang on with the prediction. Not to say that this isn't disquieting, but this is a draft, not a final decision. Drafts are apparently a routine thing in Supreme Court deliberations. A draft at this stage is still subject to the opinions of other dissenting justices. Apparently, a decision on this case isn't expected until June at the earliest; sometime during the summer. I highly welcome someone who knows more about the process than me to share how this is, but for now, I've found an article that details some of the process. www.npr.org/2022/05/03/1096141704/supreme-court-opinion-processI wonder about the effects of the leak, though. Clearly there's already an uproar about it. I don't think that alone will change minds because legislative stuff is steeped in bureaucracy and technicalities that a layperson may not necessarily understand. But I don't think it'll do nothing either. So I wonder. At the very least, I'm sure we'll hear about it for a few months afterwards. ((Unrelated to all of that, but *hugs to people from other countries over the war and their elections. I haven't said anything because quite frankly I don't have anything useful to contribute. But I am reading.))

I guess I am of the opinion that Nina Totenberg has expressed at the end of the NPR article: I’ve also become very pessimistic, seeing that the very worst in politics has continued to happen repeatedly so my lack of hope is immense. Hope for the best I guess but make preparations for the worst :/

Do not let pessimism get in the way of your activism. Lying down and accepting something as "inevitable" is a self-fulfilling prophecy. This is important and you need to fight for it. Even if you don't win, you will at least have stood up and not let those who wish harm steamroll over you.
This is what I have learned over the last two months of my homeland being at war. This is how we have convinced the world that we can win this, when they previously thought that we would be defeated in a week. It helps our enemy is incompetent, but we have also fought brilliantly, and won. There is still a long way to go, but we have turned our odds around to favourable ones. And it could not have been done unless literally the whole country pulled together to fight.
What is happening in the US is worth fighting for. So stand up. Do something, even if it feels like nothing. Channel that rage into activism, whether it be money or time or protests. Who knows, you might turn around what looks like impossible odds.
((Thank you for the hugs. Hopeful as I sound, it's still a difficult time.))

re: Supreme Court - I can't say I'm optimistic or hopeful either. And hope certainly doesn't replace action anyway if there is action that can be taken. (I'm generally a bit skeptical of how much uproar will actually change things when the USA's current system is the way it is. The best it can do is change minds locally, if that. I suppose that is something though. (For me, trying to speak up just feels like speaking to a wall, if it doesn't just backfire, and the effects of such ineffectiveness can be seen around us as nothing changes. So for me, it's just exhausting and ultimately futile. But maybe others are better speakers than I. In any case, I prefer action, something effective, where I can find the opportunity to be effective. Which... to be honest, I don't see much of, at least not for me.))
Anyway, I would be cautious with wording in the future. An emotional take, even based on an educated guess, can still lead to misinformation, albeit subtle. And I have to speak against that, before the effect spreads to others. Just as a future advisement.

It’s just an emotional topic that I already had an ominous feeling about.
