okay so i am trying to write up some recipes of neo foods. however i am not a cooking savant and when it comes to things like baking i cannot just pull the measurements out of the air. so i use other peoples recipes (sometimes edited to fit the recipe needs) i do write out all of the steps in my own words.
if this was a blog i would simply post links to the original recipe. however this is neopets, and you cannot mention outside sites.
would publishing them on neo/in the times be plagiarism?
how much of a recipe do you have to edit to make it okay to publish?
or should i just stick with recipes of things that i can make all on my 'own' (though really i'm just dissecting neo images)

If you're making a viable recipe, using Neofoods instead of real world foods, I would hardly call it plagiarism. For instance, if you sub Courgette for Squash for a squash recipe, who are you taking the idea from?
In fact, an idea would be to "invent" Neopian recipes with a note that you can substitute Non-Neo items.
If in doubt, you can always ask someone to look it over to make sure it looks legit.

I think for simple things you could get away with taking from a simple recipe. Like for instance, cake, you know you generally need flour, sugar, eggs, butter, the like. Or for seared items like steak, those are pretty straightforward "sear it and turn it every so often." For more difficult or involved things there may be more concern.
How real-world are you making these recipes? Are these things people could reasonably follow with close substitutions, or are you going all Neo-world. Because if it's the former, you may get people trying to make them, and I feel that may imply testing first, unless you put in a disclaimer that you haven't tested these yourself in real-world. If it's all Neo-world and not really applicable to real-world attempts, you could probably get away with more, or even do different types of measurements.

I'm curious how you would be presenting them on Neopets or in the Times as well. Are you going to put them on a petpage? I've seen people credit without actually linking offsite. For example, I've seen petpages that use backgrounds from Subtle Patterns, and they just type it out like that, "Subtle Patterns," without actually linking to the website. For a recipe, I might do something similar, cite it like you would a recipe from a book, instead of a website. I grabbed the most recent recipe from a food chat I belong to. foragerchef.com/classic-fried-puffballs/I would cite it something like this: Bergo, Alan. "Classic Fried Puffballs." Forager Chef, 2016. Web. And stop there. I based it off MLA format, but left out the part where you include the web address. I also didn't use italics, to keep things simple. Are you going to make an article? I'd make a works cited at the end, like I did for this article here, which I still need to revise and submit: docs.google.com/document/d/1ml6dknzM4lte7yjXgCmLCv-duwoMHxh4Ei9C-bifkFc/edit?usp=sharingBasically, you can still cite these, just can't link to them directly. I think you can make it work, though.
