New account. New thread. I've pretty much taken a break from Neopets art, except for that part where I started working on an NT series and wanted to draw all the characters. So the break is actually a ruse. Or a joke. Most of this is gonna be Neoart and the occasional OC junk. Critique is always welcome! Make me get better! Here's Sal. He's a domineering, tough-talking Aisha with a special place in the Thieves' Guild. And related networks for thieving, smuggling, racketeering...the list goes on. Some people think disco pets are inherently goofy and fun. That's fine. Laugh all you want. It's a good way for Sal and his gang to weed out the weak and prejudiced. Next: Alanis. Her family just moved from Faerieland to Brightvale. Actually, that was over nine years ago. It was right after the fall. She's still not used to it. She has a sort of pastel, new agey, 2010s Tumblr-ish style. Also maybe talks about her dreams too much. Aaand here's a very dumb drawing that got into the NT. Like, three hours after I sent it in. I'm worried. Anyway, more to come. Hopefully.

Welcome to the Hotel Neopets. You can check out anytime you'd like, but you can never leave. I commented a bit on their designs before, but I'm excited to see these characters in action in the future! Has me curious if and how Sal and Alanis may cross paths, assuming they're in the same NT series. From their descriptions, they seem to have greatly differing lifestyles and perspectives, aka the makings of some good conflict (Also with Alanis' design, I love the the little flecks of pink you've added to her freckles and eyes! You could probably get away with more pink actually, as it'd tie in well with her outfit. And <3 to her being a Ruki, they're probably my fave underrated species)

There's a good chance Sal and Alanis might never cross paths, though--they live in very separate worlds. Both know the narrator, L, who's a brilliant con artist with a thousand different false identities. She pulls it off through a steady supply of morphing potions and A+ acting skills. Here's three of them. Note: the Faerieland Sustainable Security Institute, Inc. is not a real nonprofit so much as a front for neopoint-laundering and more shady things. Elaine Wallis is the persona L assumes when she wants to go on vacation and eat good food. And Jolene is Jolene. =D

Omg that screaming Wocky reaction pic is making my whole day. I love your designs! I second Twillie on the pink flecks and freckles in Alanis' face; the bright blue and muted pink/purple conrast really nicely, but I think you could tie her whole design together even more by incorporating a little more pink in the upper fourth of her body! Otherwise she looks great! Her outfit is beautiful, and I like the textured brushwork you did on her eyelids. Speaking of constrast, I love that Sal is a macho Disco Aisha. Of course, in general a character's design should suit their personality, but when you invert it, it can make them more interesting. Your linework on his outfit is also really amazing, it was seriously the first thing that caught my eye!

Your linework on his outfit is also really amazing, it was seriously the first thing that caught my eye! TNT accepting it in under three hours made mine. I think it's wild. Now that I think about it, she's a stylish neopet who's totally wearing makeup already, so...why shouldn't she throw more pink into that palette? Tie it all together. Sal is terrifying. At least, as terrifying as I can make a Neopets-friendly gangster. If this weren't Neopets, he would be pushing a whole lot of [REDACTED DRUG]. And thanks! I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of lineart after years of avoiding it like the plague. The brush helps, too. If you use Clip Studio Paint, I really recommend lakilolom's 太字の線のペン(Bold Line Pen)--that's what I used for Alanis and Sal.

Two more OCs! Character #1: Maurice, a chronically depressed speckled Kougra who pivoted from an unprofitable, soul-crushing career as a local news reporter to one as an information broker for the Thieves' Guild. Life has beaten him down and punished him for wanting and dreaming at every step, and it doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon! Character #2: Blixa VII, an alien Aisha working as an intelligence specialist. Or, well, he should be. He mostly plays Neopian arcade games and makes things up. Also the nexus of gamers and conspiracy theorists personified (neopetified?). One of his big theories is that the nerkmid industry, aka Big Nerk, is pulling the strings of 50% of what goes down in the universe and steadily consuming the other 50%. Blixa VII is not an easy Aisha to get along with. Many have reported Blixa VII poisoning after two or more hours of exposure. Ask your doctor if Blixa VII is right for you.

Ooh, the line work on your Aisha looks really good! The differing line weight definitely makes him stand out and look very striking. :3
I also really like your Kougra’s expression and both your characters’ proportions.

Here's Maurice! If the colors don't seem to gel, that's on purpose. Maurice does have the money for an actual wardrobe now, but he still prefers to roll out of bed, put on one of three shirts or pairs of jeans, and then the same pair of boots and (weather permitting) the same jacket-scarf combo. He just doesn't care. If he were an inanimate object, he'd be a dirty pack of Menthol cigarettes that someone left out in the rain. And here's Taline Beri, aka L. "Taline Beri" is a survivor of the crash of Faerieland who overcame the impossible. After years of hardship, she's set up an organization advocating for the security of neopets and faeries alike still living with the consequences of the crash--including, tragically, the splintering of Faerieland society, with neopets, faeries, and faerie neopets pitted against each other. The fate of the millions of vulnerable faeries and neopets rest on a knife-edge. Only millions of neopoints in military and financial aid can keep Faerieland from falling into the abyss. Why, you might ask, is Fyora herself not asking for this aid? The truth is...well, Fyora no longer has full control over her kingdom. Embarrassing, right? Right. That's why Taline Beri, founder, CEO, and CFO of the Faerieland Sustainable Security Institute, is cutting out the middleman of government bureaucracy and ambiguous sovereignty to give the people of Faerieland the help they so desperately need. You, too, can remind the people of Faerieland what hope looks like. Note: Faerieland is doing just fine. Fyora is in control. Neopets and faeries are not destroying each other. However, if you're an alien aisha who doesn't do their research, this scam is super effective!

I don't know if anyone here remembers me writing a long, overwrought, angsty NT series about a bratty aisha named Ava and Faerieland drama, but I'm thinking of revisiting it with less terrible writing. Who knows! We'll see. I don't have names for any of the characters, but I do have sketches! C, a purple kyrii, is the oldest and a burned-out perfectionist. B, a cloud xweetok, is the middle child with no fashion sense and a thing for poetry. A, a faerie bori, is the youngest. Kind of a brat. We'll see. And here's an air faerie. She thinks Faerieland court drama is the most ridiculous thing in all of Neopia, but that doesn't stop her from following it. Oh no. She's watching the trainwreck and passing the popcorn. Wouldn't you do the same? Also, here are the messy proto-sketches I did when my tablet was malfunctioning. Putting out really funky sketches is better than putting out nothing at all! Now you've got something to build on. So yeah.
