Hm. So if you submitted an Altador Cup comic or story featuring Aesop (a human character based on a real person) would it be accepted due to falling within canon depictions of site lore, or rejected for breaking the rules? XD
(Just an amusing thought. XP)

I guess one way of understanding the human players in the staff tournament could be that they're not actually in Neopia, if that makes sense. (Like, they're not buying food from Grundo Cafe, staying in the Neolodge, mingling with the Neopets and so on.) The cartoons are just showing them playing the game.
Doesn't make their sudden banning of humans from NT submissions right, though.

Doesn't make their sudden banning of humans from NT submissions right, though. I wouldn't put this reasoning past them, it'd just add yet another layer of WELL, ACTUALLY to the pile, because they're being drawn for the Altador Cup in full player gear, same as the AC teams. So if the visual is that all of these staff members are donning those Yooyu-slinging throwybobs (is there like, an official name for them? :'D) and team colors and whatnot, with the news outright talking about Aesop's Kreludorian teammates, then they're trying pretty hard to immerse us in the idea that he gets to play in the actual Altador colosseum and grab a slushie at halftime and whatnot. But if we the site users watch the game at the actual Altador colosseum and get in line behind him for a slushie at halftime, we get booted out of the NT. (and all this in the light of artist resources having significantly tightened up recently - custom NT images are a magical pipedream of the past and new site art is generally limited to a trickle of one or two new items per week if we're lucky but boy do they like releasing bobbleheads of every staff member they have on board. They're essentially depicting the staff as in-universe celebs. In and of itself I'd be very happy with more staff visibility, but - concurrently with complete invisibility of the site users like this?) I'd quite like to see what'd happen if we tried to put together a special collab issue centered on the TNT Staff Tournament, but that's a lot of work to put into a potential slew of rejections. ...well, I can just send in an editorial question myself, then, can't I?

Oh man. Don't remind me of the time I found out that custom pics were a thing of the past now. I very nearly threw a fit because I was visualizing how a custom pic for my series in the system would look like (never mind that at this point I can predict the pool of pics they will be drawing from for my stories) and that really burst my bubble (no one's fault, I've just been gone for too long). But now that you mention the lack of new site art vis-a-vis the staff members always getting new items and such...
Again, if you think about it, the Neopian Times can easily be rejected as non-canon, so theoretically you can argue that our Neo-personas running around Neopia isn't canon and we really aren't in the colosseum screaming for our favorite AC teams, it's all in our NT imagination. Which brings us back to our first question, which is why bar humans from NT submissions?

But now that you mention the lack of new site art vis-a-vis the staff members always getting new items and such... Somewhat veering off-topic, but you can always prod someone to draw a custom image for you; I was doing that long before custom images went 'splode because turns out I'm a bit picky in my vision even for the golden era of site art (Heyyy, actually it just occurred to me that I could start offering drawing requests for this, or maybe even start a custom image provision thread for bringing together writers who want customs and artists who'd like to draw them - if they won't do custom images, nothing's ever stopped us from taking over that task.) the problem with that these days is that they won't upload any user-submitted custom images to their own servers but will simply hotlink the same image URL you submitted hosted wherever. Luckily I'm a bit too attached to my 16-and-a-half-year-old account to put a point on that issue by submitting my own thumbnail via some imagehost that retains the image name, and then replacing it with hardcore NSFW something-or-other after the editor chucks it straight into the NT with nary a second thought. But that totally could happen and I'm still waiting for the day when some madlad pulls that off.

But that totally could happen and I'm still waiting for the day when some madlad pulls that off. I was also thinking that maybe there could be a thread for willing artists who can draw custom pics for authors who want them. I know Twillie and June Scarlet have offered to lend me a hand in that department when I was lamenting how I really hoped for a nice custom pic (I was so happy with myself for conceiving that King Altador's heir would have a tiara shaped like a rising sun to symbolize her time as queen about to rise or whatnot and for a moment I hoped an artist would draw that or something else); unfortunately there has been a bit of trouble uploading custom thumbnails as of late, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong, folks. Nevertheless, I can think of at least two images they are likely to slap onto my series (considering this is one of those kooky NQII stories I used to write so much so WE KNOW WHERE THAT'S GOING) and one of them I'll be 100% fine with because it's awesome as heck, and the other, not so much, but okay. Back on-topic, I'll be leaving for home in a bit so I'll draft my editorial question then. I want to raise also the fact that some submissions that don't quite abide by the current NT rules slipped past and wound up in the NT and it seems fair that that happened while we're nitpicking humans in general.

But if we the site users watch the game at the actual Altador colosseum and get in line behind him for a slushie at halftime, we get booted out of the NT. Fair enough; they could've chosen to present themselves as they are, but they chose to add the Yooyuball gear which is blurring the line. Looking more closely at Aesop's description, it says he likes to eat the completely non-lethal sandwich as well. That's definitely not a real-world item. Soooo if they're not abiding by their own rules to keep the human world and Neopian world separate, I don't see why we should x) (btw, the official name for the thowybob is "racket" xd There are items in the game called Altador Team Yooyuball Racket, Brightvale Team Yooyuball Racket and so on.) I want to raise also the fact that some submissions that don't quite abide by the current NT rules slipped past and wound up in the NT and it seems fair that that happened while we're nitpicking humans in general. I noticed that too! A line from the romantic Venuquin story was even chosen as a quote of the week. They definitely need to be clearer about what's now allowed and what is not. x.x

Okay uh. I am awake but I'm not supposed to be awake. One large iced coffee, long story. Before I went to bed - or tried to, I suddenly remembered this short story about how the white Weewoo came to be and how NT writers and artists got together to make it happen. It has many mentions of NTWFers and their Neopets. Which means it's a story with a lot of humans. I'm sorry I only remembered it now, but for those still looking to send editorial questions or for the opportunity when we do draft a joint message, we can use this as a reference - not only for bolstering our position but also as a reminder of what we can accomplish when we get together for a common cause.

I've been semi-following this thread, and in addition to the NT editor being the first of the staff to be introduced for the AC staff tournament, in the same editorial where he said humans are a no-no in the editorial, he answered a question in the editorial about new staff, confirmed the AC staff tournament, and stated that would be a good way to introduce the new staff.
So to summarize both of those questions....
No humans!
Oh, but we should introduce our human staff members. As site characters. Yeah. That sounds good.
But no humans, okay? That's a no-no! Sorry if that was ever overlooked and accidentally let in.
Hey, here's an annual event the includes humans.
But no humans!

Whew, just a TMGE. I was worried it'd be the one that said it wasn't allowed, period. Got back to it pretty fast.
Hm, I guess I'll wait to see what he says in this week's editorial, at least, but I guess I should resubmit it?

I'd try submitting it again, sure. Glad it was a TMGE and not a "this is a no-no." That was a quick turn-around, wow.

Hey I got a TMGE for my article too, but this time it really doesn’t bother me at all because of this positive development!
Now where was I? Oh yes, Literature Collab. Need to wrap that up soon. Thanks everyone for letting your voices be heard. We did it!
