Anyone else noticing that images from Neopets appear as broken or missing images on this forum? Here's two examples: ntwriters.proboards.com/post/2724480/threadntwriters.proboards.com/post/2724266/threadI noticed it on Firefox first, when my own avatar I linked to was down. So I uploaded it and moved on. But then I noticed other images were doing the same thing. And then I noticed it on Chrome on my phone. And I just checked Chrome on my laptop, same thing. When I right click on a broken image and choose "View Image" on Firefox, I get this warning: Which I think might be a clue as to why the images are broken on the forum. Neopets images still work on Jellyneo and Dr. Sloth just fine: www.jellyneo.net/ www.drsloth.com/Which is why I think it's something not on Neopets' end. One other thing to mention: the forum is https, while Neopets and Jellyneo are both http. Could that make the difference? I'm not sure what's going on exactly, but hopefully together we can track this down.

I have no idea what this is all about. Weird stuff! I looked at your posts with the 'edit' function, and there's nothing obviously wrong there. I don't think there's anything we can do to fix it, but I'll bring this up with the other mods.

Thanks for the report! I still don't know the cause of this, but here's what I'm thinking so far. One other thing to mention: the forum is https, while Neopets and Jellyneo are both http. Could that make the difference? It might well be, because of this. support.proboards.com/thread/660963/help-images-displaying-on-forumIn which case, I'm not sure what to say. Perhaps there's a workaround to this besides the ones listed (as they require either work on Neopets' end or us hosting our own images, which could be implausible for a Neopets Writing forum). We'd need to look into it further.

Thanks for the response, Gelquie! This sounds about right...in that case, maybe it would be easiest to just show this thread to June and leave it at that? I'm not sure if there's anything else we could do about the issue (you mentioned maybe there could be other workarounds, but personally I wouldn't know where to start looking.)

I had the chance to read over the thread, and yeah, it sounds like it's a http vs. https thing. I don't know that there's anything you guys can do on the forum end, but let me see if there's anything I can do on my end for my browser.
Remember that error Message I showed in the first post? If I go to Advanced, it gives me further explanation about how the ssl certificate doesn't cover things from images.neopets. If I then choose to accept anyway, despite their warnings not to, I can view the image, and then when I go back to the forum, I can view all the Neopets images.
So there's one workaround, for Firefox, at the individual browser level, at least.

AWW SHOOT I thought this was in the modsquad June, hence my now weird-looking reply. xD So you already have the link thanks to Gelquie...yay!
I'm glad you found a workaround with firefox! I'll try now with chrome.
EDIT: with chrome I can just open the broken image in a new tab. Not sure how I would make it just show the images right off the bat though (then again, this stuff is not really my forte! I'm the kind of person who accidentally turns on overtype and then has to google to work out how to turn it off, haha.)

Some workarounds I can think of at the moment: 1. If you just want to post an image of an item then Jellyneo's Item Database actually has its own image database it stores a copy of each item image on (and it uses https): items.jellyneo.net/assets/imgs/items/509.gif2. Copy & paste the image you want in an image editing program (like Microsoft Paint), save the image, upload it to an image upload site like Imgur (which uses https), and use that.

Just checked with Jellyneo, they actually actively block hotlinking their item images, you'll notice that Duke Pikachu 's image is broken. Also, according to Dave of Jellyneo, the http/https issue with linking Neopets images is one of the reasons why Jellyneo isn't https yet. Also, if you just right click an image and choose "save as" you can download it to your computer without having to open up a image editor like MS paint.

Thanks for looking into this for us, June. ^^ If I recall correctly, hotlinking from Imgur also may have issues with their TOC, last time I checked. Testing below, don't mind me: Can you see the Woodland Chia above? Hm, tried a few workarounds, but from base attempts just from the reply box, this site will automatically read it as http. I also tried temporarily allowing insecure content on Chrome, but I still couldn't see it. I suppose in the meantime, unless someone really wants to re-host, we could add a direct link to posts for people to click and have it show in a different tab. Of course, this solution isn't optimal, but it's the only one I have right now until we figure out the tech-y stuff.
