The new year is almost upon us, time to start thinking about plans for the upcoming year. Including planning for The Neopian Times April Fools joke this coming year!
Yes, it's time to start brainstorming ideas and planning for the April 1st joke, or rather, Friday, March 27th April 3rd joke.
We are starting from the ground up this year, so the first step is to start brainstorming prank ideas. You can do that here, or Discord, or the Neoboards, wherever. Then planning and possibly advertising. Last year we opened up the prank to the Neoboards, advertising it so we could get more submissions. Did we want to do the same this year?
The floor is open for discussion, let's do this!
Discussion is Complete, the theme is Fyora abdicates the throne.

Pkmn Trainer Geo and I have been discussing ideas on the Just a Couple of Writers thread on the Neopian Writers Neoboard. Here's a summary, I'll also leave a transcript in a spoiler just because otherwise it'll be lost in a week.
Geo suggested Fyora stepping down and naming a successor. We discussed who that could be, or even if it would be a mystery and part of the collab would be speculation. Maybe Cassandia or Atheia.
This also led to the idea of a Leader Swap, which is kind of like those wife swap shows, where two leaders with different styles switch roles for a period of time. Like Dr. Sloth and Fyora switching places for the day. Each person could choose their own leaders to swap, as opposed to everyone doing the same pair.
June: Pst. Time to start brainstorming ideas for NT April Fools 2020.
Geo: ^ Fyora stepping down and naming a successor?
June: Who would the successor be? Unless that's part of the collab, discussion and speculation as to who would be the replacement.
Geo: Not sure. Queen Fyora doesn't seem to like the idea. She tends to take everything too seriously.
Geo: I wonder if Fyora wants to turn control of Faerieland to a pet, maybe a faerie pet, but more likely, she'll ask Aethia. Aethia's tougher than Fyora but similarly kind-hearted.
June: Could also make it something really absurd, like Fyora handing her reign to Dr. Sloth or something. Though that sounds more like the start of a Dr. Sloth evil scheme.
Geo: How about she hands it to Casandia?
Geo: Casandia will rescind the Hasee and Doughnutfruit restrictions and turn Faerieland into Haseeland.
June: Oh man, I had a really silly idea last night, something about leader swap. You know those wife swap reality shows, something like that. Where two completely different leaders trade places for the day or week or something like that. For example, Fyora and Dr. Sloth trade places for a few days, and shenanigans ensue.
Geo: I had a similar idea once. Except it was Darigan and Fyora.
June: It could be any set of leaders, really, like, each person doing the collab could chose their own let of leaders to swap out.
Geo: Swapping Altador and Fyora is probably going to be boring as well as Hagen and Fyora. Although I'm not sure how the faeries would react to a non-faerie ruler.
Geo: Queen Fyora is also a bit unique since she's a ruler that wields enough power and respect that citizens of other kingdoms will carry out her wishes.
The concept of Fyora abdicating is rather versatile, I think.
The prank itself is the fact that Fyora is abdicating. To settle that it is happening, the collab could rely on pieces more central to the theme, such as interviews of Fyora and/or other Neopian leaders and/or Fyora's enemies, and more-or-less historically accurate retrospectives of her rule. Maybe her own plans for a relaxing retirement (in that winter wonderland cottage that was featured in the AC, perhaps x3).
This could then branch out into: what led her to abdicate? perhaps some outlandish event that could be covered in a story or breaking news article, and how will the succession be handled? This could be anything from a moving story between Fyora and the heir she has named, to someone begging her not to abdicate, to a reality show or all-out-battle for dominance. Perhaps all of Neopia should vote! for incredibly inappropriate candidates! Some articles could be a specific character's campaign to replace Fyora - though without getting too real-life-ish about it.
The theme also leaves room for stories further from it, such as economical repercussions, people trying to cash in on Fyora memorabilia, the villains' hopes and reactions, who might play her in a biopic...
One of my favourite parts of a prank is the implication that there's an on-site event or feature, and making people look for the plot page they might be missing. Having to figure out Fyora's succession somehow could do as a plot-event.

I’m stuck on the why she would abdicate part but since it’s for April Fools’ I suppose it doesn’t have to be a serious reason. Maybe it’s because of hair trouble. Okay, maybe it would still have to make some sense to be believable. Maybe she’s just tired and wants to move on with her life. Or decided that she’ll take responsibility for Xandra’s downward spiral and the resulting consequences and resigns out of guilt?

I wasn’t sure if faeries could be painted but maybe Naia was experimenting with a way to for faeries to instantly change their look.
The other thing is that I’m not sure how the Faerieland government works. We do know that: - Faerieland is a monarchy - Faerieland does have a council that Fyora meets with (from TDF video game when Roberta tried to meet Fyora but had to wait for Fyora’s meeting to wrap up) - Fyora rules with a gentle hand (so probably not despotic)
I have no idea if this council is just for advisory purposes or if it has legislative power. TNT also hasn’t hinted at any signs of a constitutional monarchy either.

We could write about hair and fur for April Fools 2020. . The one issue is getting Fyora to talk about her hair. It seems like she's keeping a secret about it, and asking her any questions about her hair will result in trouble. The first time, she'll smile sweetly and tell you that she doesn't feel comfortable talking about it. Do it one more time and you'll probably spend a day or two in the Faerieland dungeons (which I think are more of a decent hotel that you can't leave rather than an actual dreary cell).

I sort of just threw this together on the Notes app on my phone but here’s what I have so far for Faerieland’s government system:
Jhudora’s Bluff (Autonomous Region) - a self-governed region mostly ruled by Jhudora and her aides Thetis - Coastal Region to the Northeast Hygeia - Freshwater region to the south (includes the Rainbow Fountain and Healing Springs) Faerie City - The city gets its own prefecture Nyx- the Caverns Terra - The mountainous region where Poogle Races are held Anubis - Border district between Lost Desert and Faerieland Demonica - Border district with the Haunted Woods
The Districts of Faerie City：
Castle Heights (the Castle) West Pixie Place (a neighborhood mostly populated by Air and Light Faeries with some Fire Faeries) East Pixie Place (mostly Dark, Fire, and some Air faeries) Willow Wisp (predominately Earth and Fire faeries) Rowan Park (mostly markets and shops) Nymphapolis (the Faerieland academy)
Legislature: - Each prefecture gets two delegates to form the Faerie Council - Delegates are elected by popular vote - Laws can be enacted by the council subject to Queen Fyora’s approval - Jhudora’s Bluff has its own laws and thus, delegates from there do not have voting powers
Executive: - Queen Fyora has power to accept and reject laws - She has the power to issue decrees that are outside of the scope of the council’s control - The council can override Fyora’s veto, but doing so requires 3/4 of delegates to vote and at least one from each prefecture
Judicial: - The court system is independent of the executive except for cases the are referred directly to Queen Fyora
Faerie City is governed by a mayor who meets with a council similar to Fyora except delegates are from each district and the body functions more like a city council.
