ALRIGHT FOLKS after a year or more of Not Working On This, I am making a Commitment! I won't be doing full NaNo (because I value my sanity), but I do have a couple goals for this month r.e. my Space Fantasy Novella.
For those not in the know: a cyborg dragon-rider (Cal) recruits a robotic healer (Mari) from a backwater skyvillage to help her find a missing rider! They have adventures! The premise is everything I want to write but uhhhh I suck at sticking to things, so my first complete draft has been sitting mostly untouched these past two years.
So I am setting a few fairly simple goals for this month... *Redraft the first half (fairly doable! It's a small novella, not Les Miserables, even with d&d and work I can manage it.) *Make the middle More Interesting (there were complications I planned to introduce, which affect the ending, making stuff messier and more fun to read, etc etc.)
Shall I stick to this? You'll have to wait and see, I guess!!!
Please cheer me on and help me Not Give Up On This if you like...
*Space adventures! *(very gay) robot ladies! *(equally gay) cyborg ladies! *Who are both ace! Because I am writing what I know. *Dragons! Who are sometimes also cyborgs! *Fantasy genre! Magic! But also robots!!! *Creepy psychic hiveminds!!!! *Uh...did I mention it's in space? Okay that's very important.

Apparently earlier in the year I actually started dividing the salvageable portions of older chapters into separate documents, in preparation for NaNo. The first three-and-a-half are there, I'm just writing the end of chapter one right now. Which may become chapter two. We'll see!
((in which Mari expects a lot more than this very brief almost-thanks from someone who has been so rude to her for so long.))

Cal has all the stereotypical cyborg angst but like, also rides a dragon and (eventually) dates a robot. So I probably get away with it.
Mari is a bit less Stereotypical Robot, but she's also the PoV character and so you never see her from an outside perspective.
This was an addition to a chapter I'd already drafted. The second half of this novella-draft is super messy and I'll need to cut and rewrite a bunch of it, but I think I'm headed in the right direction developing the friendship between these two characters, at least.

First seven chapters have now been gone over and pasted into a shiny new draft doc. Yay! Currently comes to 11,397 words, and there's still one conversation I'm trying to find a place for in these middle chapters as I type.
(callback to an earlier convo, meaningless without context but OH WELL.)

Wrote a couple more pieces today. No more chapters were pasted into the 'shiny new draft!' doc, but I did write in a conversation where Mari and Cal talk about their mothers, which was nice. The other thing I wrote was a 'fix' for a section I muddled up near the end of the story, but I haven't reworked all the Surrounding Stuff yet so it's just in its own doc for now.

Took a couple days off to prep for EuroAtlantis...and then I was just super tired on Monday, but back into this now!!! 'Shiny New Draft' is up to 12,366 words, and I've been editing some stuff in my previous draft I plan to paste straight in.
