You decide to take a shortcut through a relatively peaceful park, taking a moment to take in the night, and all the peace around. To some, it may look dark and spooky. To others, it's a nice, calming evening, accentuated by occasional witch cackles or the like. Either way, there seems to be little to fear this day.
The silence is interruption by commotion in the distance. You turn your head and notice a playground, filled with a wide variety of equipment with everything you could imagine and more, but largely empty at this time. However, you see two figures; one situated below a slide, the other stomping away. Curious, you draw closer.
"Hey, look, you made it down alright!" the figure from beneath the slide called out.
"Maybe I didn't want to be up there in the first place!" the leaving figure retorted.
"Aw, c'mon, you could've done more with it! Besides, no harm done, it was just a-"
"No, I'm done!" the leaving figure threw something back at the crouching figure, who caught the trinket. The leaving figure doesn't give you a second glance as they stomp by.
You don't know what it was that drew you further to the crouching figure. Curiosity? A desire for answers? Boredom? A desire to play on the playground yourself now that there are no kids around to give the wrong impression of you? For whatever reason, you draw closer, and the figure beneath the slide comes into view. They seem to be pulling themselves together before waving at you.
"Hey, psst! You there! Sorry you saw that. Maybe you'll get a better deal!"
Better deal? What does this strange figure mean? Now that you took a moment to properly hear their voice and can tell it's coarse and immature, you can guess that they're probably a kid here to play on the playground. So why hide beneath the slide? Why are you talking to a random stranger on the playground anyway?
"Oh, right! You can't see me like this, can you?" The figure peeks out, just enough for you to glimpse from a nearby light that they are... not human. In fact, you find yourself staring face to face at a juvenile troll.
"Yeah, I just like hiding beneath slides. Kind of a troll thing. Anyway, not important! Listen, I got a deal for you, if you're up for it. Just a couple minutes of your time!"
If you're still reading this, you probably didn't run away immediately, and so the troll continues. "So, basically, I got in trouble with my parents, so they won't let me go trick-or-treating. Which really bums me out. But then I thought, I had a better idea! After all, I'm definitely not the only kid who goes to this playground. You don't look like a kid, but it should be fine. Anyway, I thought if I can't go trick-or-treating, we can do a trade!"
A trade? A trade with what? You do notice a kid has a little satchel, and looks to be tinkering with some little trinket in their hand. You don't recognize the tools they're using.
"Hold on, I'll explain! Listen, as it happens, I know some little magic tricks. Yes, trolls have magic, at least some do. I can enchant items, so I just enchant junk I have lying around. And if you really want, if you give me some candy or do something for me, or just do something cool, you can have a trinket! And then you'll get to experience my little magic trick. Heck, maybe you can do more with it. That'd be super cool to see! ...But y'know, just a little thing."
The troll holds up the trinket they were working with; the same one tossed to them, something that looks like a very cheap refrigerator magnet.
"So, do something for me or give me some candy, and I'll give you a little magic trick. Tricks for treats. How 'bout it?"
You ponder the kid's offer. Should you take it? Should you do something else here? Or... this is an expansive playground with anything you could imagine; you could probably skip doing something with the troll and just play on something, or do something cool on it. On the other hand... you do have candy, and they are offering. Or you could walk away entirely and go on with your night, though you'd get nothing here. What do you do?
