Hello all! Are you getting ready for Halloween?
I hope so, because Trick or Treat is going to rise again!
For those who don't know, Trick or Treat on the forum is a shortform RP-style event based all around trick-or-treating. People create threads, or "houses", where they set up a house or scenario for others to visit, for either goodies or adventures or what have you! You could get houses of all sorts; it's very free. It doesn't even need to be spooky or even containing a house. (People can always PM me if they're not sure; I don't think I've ever said no to an idea, though!) Meanwhile, people can visit these houses to get treats or partake in adventures! Several people dress up their profiles for this or write what costume they're using, but it's not required. This basically goes on for about a week, until a day or so after Halloween passes, after which all the houses are retired to the Graveyard of Trick-or-Treat for next year.
For this, people can be as casual or as intense as they want, with houses or trick-or-treating! There is no requirement to make a house longer or shorter. (For instance, if you'd rather have a very simple house, that is 100% okay!) And similarly, people can choose what houses they want, depending on their interests and how much time they have. Similarly, people are not required to make a house to go trick-or-treating, nor are people required to trick-or-treat to make a house. (Though I encourage participation as it would be very sad if we had a lot of houses but no visitors or a lot of visitors but little houses. Use your best judgement, but don't over-exert yourselves.) People should choose how much effort should go into their house or trick-or-treating and how much they're able to do within the given timeframe, as this is a short-form RP.
So that's the basics! And if you're still confused, the Graveyard of Trick or Treat is still up in Memory Lane, if you'd like to look and get a feel!

Now, the reason for this thread, is that scheduling and logistics and balance with RL celebrations or work has always been an issue. In addition, events like OCtober or Inktober has worked up steam, which is great! But I don't want to overload people with events. Unfortunately, neither can really be moved. (Well, I suppose people could do OCtober or Inktober on different days, but I understand that's not the ideal.)
So I would like to set up a situation that's most optimal, and touch base with people, or see how much interest still remains.
My thinking is that I would like to set up the Trick or Treat (henceforth ToT) thread about a week before Halloween, and then close it a day or so after it ends. Because the idea of a weekend start appeals to me, I was thinking of starting things up on the 25th of October, and running until about the 2nd of November. (With the 1st and 2nd of November mainly being a timeframe when people should wrap up/close their houses, if they wish to give their houses closure.)
Would this be ideal for people? Or would it conflict too much with the aforementioned events and upcoming NaNoWriMo for people who wish to participate? I still would like to hold something, for people in general whether or not they participate in those events, but the event load concerns me.
(I will say though, for those doing OCtober, you may use your OCtober prompt into your ToT houses if you wish. If you don't want to, that's fine! It's up to you how much you're up for.)
I also wonder if there's a way to add some spice to the event, something new. Or whether the different houses each year are enough and thus if I just shouldn't mess too much with what works. (I wouldn't be able to do much on short notice anyway.) But if anyone has ideas, I'll think on them! If they're very individual, they might be best for your personal Trick-or-Treat house if you want them to be.
Anyway, those are my thoughts and concerns. I would like to hear yours! If I don't hear anything, I'll run the event for the timeframes mentioned, and have the subboard and threads ready by the starter date. Even so, I can still optimize the event if I feel it's appropriate! Anything that makes things easier on people while still sticking to the concept of short-form Halloween RPs.
