Oh cooooool, it's awesome to know NTWFDND counts! :-D I'll probably write for something else, will give it more thought after the fic exchange, but cool to know it's an option for those involved.

Hey guys! I come with updates! First of all, so far most people prefer the zine to be open-ended or have just a vague theme, so I've decided to go with "Essence of the NTWF" or "Spirit of the NTWF". maybe if this goes well and we want to do more in the future, we can have a theme, but I think it's best to keep this first one as broad as possible! Second, I drafted a tentative schedule for how things could work, and I'd love to get you opinion on it. Does this timeline work for you? Would you rather have more time? Do you feel it's too stretched out? Please speak up if you have any concerns! - July 15th - 21st: A week to decide what you'll be contributing to the zine. I would like to hear especially from those of you who are both writers and artists, whether you decide to do a written piece, an illustration, a comic, or what. It'd be good to know a general idea of what you're planning, but it can be as vague or as detailed as you want. For example: "I'm writing a Medieval-themed short story" or "I'm writing a story where Corinne and Davo plan a heist to steal some royal treasures, but things don't quite go as planned!" are both equally acceptable.
What you say here will NOT be set in stone, so don't stress too much about it! You're allowed to change your mind at any point in the process (just keep in mind that the later you go with a new plan, the less time you'll have to get it done, but I'm trying to give plenty of time anyway.) It's mostly to give me an idea of what kind of themes people are wanting to create about, and the balance between how much art vs writing there will be.
- August 5th: 1st WIP check. I'll be sending you all a reminder PM and ask how you're doing with your submissions! If you haven't started on it, it'll be a gentle nudge. You're free to show me your progress and/or ask me for opinions or crit if you want (I'm not very good at critiquing writing, though, but I'll try my best if you ask! ^^;; ). If you prefer, you can also just be like "hey, Ginz, thanks for checking in! I'm doing great, I already got the sketch done!" and I'll trust you with no need of proof.
- August 19th: 2nd WIP check. Again, I'll PM you and ask how you're doing. Same thing as the first. If you haven't started working on your piece at this point, this will be a more insistent nudge!
- August 26th - September 1st: Submission week! Time to send me your shiny beautiful entries!
- September 9th: Zine comes out for everyone to enjoy!

I've been mulling this over, and I've been thinking about doing the Wrighton Middle-Grade Novel AU I described back in this post: ntwriters.proboards.com/post/2700965/threadThe nice thing about something like that would be that it'd be less spoilers for Wrighton itself. Probably a comic, maybe an illustrated short story. Do you know what the aspect ratio is going to be for the magazine? It affects how I draw the comics.

June Scarlet That sounds awesome! =D And good question! The zine's size will be 6x9in (around 15x23cm for those of us who use metric) but yeah, aspect ratio will be 6x9. Your comic can take up as many pages as you want it to, so don't feel limited to one.

I am still unsure of what kind of art I would like to contribute. X'D Would the pencil puzzle work in the zine's scale? The box itself is 401 x 439, which is both odd and quite small. XD I'm thinking the scale might be an issue if the zine is printed. (and it's made in MSPaint - I cannot adjust the scale without destroying it. 8D)

Killix Sorry for the late reply to this! I think the pencil puzzle would work for the digital version, but perhaps not the print one, because it's so small, and as you said, it would get really pixellated if we tried to scale it up. D: Would it be okay if it was only included in the digital zine but not the print one? we'd be missing out, but we could all enjoy it digitally anyway!

No problem, Ginz ❤ ! I think I'll forego the pencil puzzle, then. I'd like whatever I do to be included in all versions. Of course, this puts me right back to the drawing board. XD

Okay, just finished writing my first draft of my comic in my sketchbook! It's going to be ten pages plus a cover page. Each page is divided into eight panels, though some pages combine panels into less, bigger panels.
Next I need to type up the draft into a form I can send to Ginz on the next update check, and to work on the cover. I have a reason for focusing on the cover so soon. I'm going to do the cover digitally, and draw almost all the characters on it, and get feedback from people to make sure their characters as twelve-year-olds are done accurately. Rather than just make sketches of these characters, I'm going to put these sketches to use into a cover page. If I end up needing help with coloring later on, it will also act as a color guide. So really, the cover is almost like a test page for me.
But I have the story written, and I'm very excited about it.

Yikes! Is this the start of submission week? It kinda got away from me, I hadn't seen an update in a while.

Good to know it's not just me! I have the rest of the week off so hopefully can finish and polish this thing in time.

You know who else it snuck up on? ME. XD;; Life has been busy in a good way, but I've just had a lot of other things in my mind, so I forgot to the the second WIP check... and now suddenly it's submission week? wow!
I'm definitely thinking the deadline should be pushed back a bit, actually. If you're done with your submission this week, feel free to send it in! But if not, don't stress. I think it'd be best to give ourselves an extra week or two.
I apologize for having been such an informal coordinator. I just want this to be a fun collaborative project! <3

I would love an extra week, Ginz! But no worries if you decide against it, I can manage. <3

I'd definitely be alright with some more time to work on entries! (and for me, admittedly the "or two weeks" sounds more appealing, but I can work with either one or two >w> And no worries, Ginz, I know that feel of getting busy and other things taking up your mind, I've been in the same boat x3 It's a transitional time of year, which can cause all kinds of crazy life things to suddenly make one busy xD
