Like the stars chase the sun Over the glowing hill, I will conquer. Was listening to Queen of Peace on repeat while painting today (THANKS CELES!!! xD) So if Chala ends up being a conquest paladin...the line quoted above is probably why, I heard it like fifty times today. My friend was teaching me a technique to help me achieve a smoke-like effect, which I'm trying to do with purple patterns on Chala's armour. It's going okay! I can use the same technique to better pattern Astrophelle when I eventually paint an updated mini for her. Purple smokestuff looks like strange blurry stains right now, but whatever! It's getting too dark to keep painting small details now, will try make more progress tomorrow.

Will get final pics of Chala when the arm is reattached. Purple is doing okay, but I need to apply more to the limbs. Not long before lockdown, I bought a unicorn mini at a local convention. I'm now painting it to represent Stargazer, the patron to my celestial warlock Larkspur (link is to some lovely art Celes did of the latter! Second spoilerbox down.) They're looking pretty rough right now. Eventually they'll have light purple eyes too, and probably some sparkles in the mane and tail.

WIP of some cool wallstuff I bought for DotMM! Goblin and skellington are to give a rough scale, and because they are things I've previously painted. Not looking super special right now, but I'll be doing more work on them over the next few days.

More painting of wallthings and gatethings (didn't get my adventure grid out or anything today though, many lazy.) Started to repaint the stones grey and drybrush brown (left piece was completed in that sense, right was not.) Archway still needs a lot of work. Am figuring out how I could add moss or mold or something if I run out of stuff to do. My drider mini arrived today too! A belated Christmas gift from my brother, he knew I wanted the figure but had to wait for it to be released, and it got delayed several times. xD It's to represent my necromancer character Araneo Arachnis Sunbreaker, but there is no confirmed date for his three-shot yet, and I have other stuff to paint as well, so I probably won't start on him for a wee while.

Today I painted some pillars and spiders! It seems likely my DotMM party will face giant spiders and a ghost in their first session, so I made a blurry little setup to see how that might look. And then threw in one of every type of elf we have in our collection to flail against the spiders (I painted three of these, the other three are pre-painted. The ghost is also pre-painted.) The pillars are basecoated light grey, drybrushed in a blue-grey, and shaded with a deep blue. The spiders are basecoated light brown and shaded in sepia. Ze Elven Specimens:Front row: eladrin (spring, pre-painted), high elf (painted after Forgotten Realms' sun elves), drow (my Zazz mini!) Back row: wood elf (pre-painted), shadar-kai (pre-painted), high elf 'Drozzt' (painted after Forgotten Realms' moon elves, but he would also fit right in with the frost elves of Arentium in EuroAtlantis!!) I think the only 5E elf subrace we don't have are sea elves, but those are tricky to get anyway (like triton minis...what do they have against aquatic characters? SOOOO RUDE!) Most of the minis we have are high elves.

Started painting a fiendish gal today. Still just rough work (got the skintone down first, then the hair and wings, then clothes), but she's such a pretty model and I really wanted to start on her! I'm calling her Hope. Skin and hair painted: I had a second full-body picture with updated colours (including her lovely red outfit!), but it was way too blurry so I'll update that one tomorrow in better lighting.

...I did not post it SORRY HOPE. =( I am currently working on a collection of things! As well as the above: four elves, a ghost, and...my Purely Decorative (i.e. not being used on the tabletop) Astrophelle mini arrived today! It's so gorgeous, all the little details really showed up on the actual model- including her sandals! Argh! Can't wait to make a start. (Will be using the model on the right- although I LOVEEEE the boots on the left one and that one's cape has extra designs on the reverse, ahhh!) (model is Pathfinder Deep Cuts: human oracle, by Wizkids.) I imagine this is the sort of thing she might wear while performing (as a storyteller rather than a dancer- she has much more sensible clothing and shoes for dancing, which I was allowed to include in her inventory! xD With the Entertainer background you get one musical instrument and some instrument proficiencies, but I chose a couple styles of dance and relevant shoes instead.)

I've been painting nebulae-ish stuffs onto Astrophelle's legs and AHH it looks so nice??! I need to dab one onto her face too, but the lighting isn't very good right now so I don't want to go near the face until tomorrow. For now I'm happy just painting layers of stars and pretty nebulaness (and her clothing! I made part of it light purple for this mini, looks so nice!) Will try and remember to finally share some pics of her, and some of my other new minis, tomorrow! EDIT: Blurry pic in poor lighting of some of the rough colours, which I did earlier (removed the arms for now so I can paint surfaces more easily.) Really happy with how the nice purple skirt is coming along! Will do tidying up and some more detailed stuff tomorrow when I have sunlight. (the mold line on that leg is a lot less obvious irl.)

Three WIP minis for Dungeon Trash Squad's campaign: (left to right) 1. A mini who will probably represent multiple drow mage NPCs in the course of this campaign. I'm really happy with how the fire turned out. And the skin- such a nice deep purple! 2. Alessandra, a human woman from the graviturgist's past who wants revenge!!! Only started on this mini today, but am incredibly happy with how her hair turned out. This mini was a spare after I painted that trans pride genasi rogue last year, and wasn't sure how I would utilise it until now. Yay! Alessandra can manifest shadow clones of herself- based on the echo knight's abilities from Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, to link back to the abilities of the graviturgist PC himself. 3. Dove-Calling-At-Twilight "Twyla"- winter eladrin working for the warlock's patron, who is an archfey. I tried to keep her colour scheme muted and wintery overall, hence the dead leaf tones and greys and blues (her spell is green so it stands out.) Whimsical and a little immature, she's the kind of NPC I'm best at portraying, so I look forward to introducing her to the party!

-Drow Mage (who I'll just call 'Drivvin' since that's the name of the NPC the model was originally selected for) is completed, as is Twyla. I'll try and get a nice picture some time. -Alessandra is coming along nicely, but nowhere near finished. -Haven't made progress on Astrophelle lately. Her cloak has been painted, but I need to do lots of smaller details with her now and want to do that in good lighting, while right now I'm not getting home until it's dark (thanks winter!) -Made a tiny bit of progress on a zombie goblin for my brother's birthday (to represent his PC Bart's zombie goblin sidekick, Rob.)
Also...got some new minis today!!! =O -Have started painting Something, the archfey warlock's sprite familiar. I don't think it'll be too long before a PC spots them and I can share the mini, so they're one I'll try to get done for next session. -Have started on Revelation, an improvised tiefling NPC in a cheery green-and-yellow colour scheme! The party last session accepted a letter from his twin sister Quietude. They need to delve deeper into Undermountain to deliver it to Revelation. -I have acquired, but have not started painting, the mini for Bart'leh's hotter, more successful brother, Chadd'ithae.

Messy WIP of Something (the Trash Squad feylock's jerkface of a sprite familiar), and Astrophelle (who is...well, Astrophelle!) Some oranges and stuff will be added to Something's attire since I'm going for a wintery vibe and autumn is close enough. I need to tidy Astro's sandals but am SO PROUD of how her legs are coming along (arms will be reattached at the end.) (Also I need to let you all know that my DM approved my request to be able to summon a glamorous starry steed for Astro with find steed, and I am SO EXCITED.)

WIP of my brother's super edgy D&D character, Bart'leh Drowgula (level 7 drow wizard, school of necromancy; who started out as a Rob Zombie reference and has ended up as a massive bundle of insecurities.) I was asked to use black, white and some purple when painting him. When I asked whether I should use 'ceramite white' or the off-white 'bleached bone' for the skeletal segments, my brother agreed that 'ceramite white' would be better because...it looks like Bart spent hours trying to get this as clean-looking as possible. Which is so in-character as Bart is 90% insecurities and vanity (it's so sad he and Zazz will never get to hang out! They have so much in common.)

More WIP pics of Bart'leh Drowgula, drow necromancer! The bronze gauntlets were my brother's suggestion, so I painted them on quickly to see how they'd look- they defs need tidying up. ft. my laptop. NO CAPES.

Blurry WIP of Astrophelle. Was too dark to tidy up the feet today, that's something I really need good lighting for. Mucked up her face so badly I'm considering stripping it with nail polish remover and starting over, but again, that's a decision best made in better lighting. So far I'm most happy with how her hair and dress are turning out. I did that stuff a while ago though- today I was mostly working on her legs, to add the speckles and sparkles and things (there is...a lot of watered down gold paint over her skin tone on this model, because I wanted to make her properly sparkly.) Gonna acquire a horse model at some stage so I can paint her space-themed horse as well...after said horse actually makes an in-game appearance, though!

Astrophelle again! Aiming to get her finished for the weekend, so I can show her to my group at our next session. I thought about getting a photo of her on top of the journal I use for her campaign, but the journal is blue/silver so wouldn't have worked very well. It's difficult to make out here, but you can sort of see the red birthmark on her left cheek! Should be filled with little stars and things, but of course that's hard to reflect on such a small model. You can also see the lovely sparkly starriness on that front leg, yay! I am so happy with these colour choices. <3 Ramble about the character herself:Today I realised Astrophelle views herself very much as a protective force: she promised to protect Scarlet from her nasty adoptive dragon-father if the genasi joined the party, tried to convince a witch to stop trading in souls in order to protect vulnerable people from being tempted (she failed, but still), and last session did everything she could to protect another aasimar from some nasty bandits. Heck, even her reason for joining this adventure was that she wanted to get a cursed item un-cursified, so that the person it's connected to wouldn't fall victim to whatever Vague Nasty Curse it inflicts!
This nature is also reflected in her in-game abilities: Astro can interpose her shield between a nearby ally and their attacker to reduce the damage done, and more often uses support spells or buffs than the classic Paladin Smites.
Astrophelle is a redemption paladin, and a core aspect of this subclass is the belief that Bad People can be redeemed. Astrophelle definitely adheres to this, to a point- I think at the moment it boils down to whether she considers the person to have been hurt by the world in some way, or whether she just sees them as Cruel and Evil. But her angelic guide did recently remind her that if she was only supposed to redeem people who already had good in their hearts, neither of them would have a job, sooooo...
I am very excited to see where her character goes! (Recently, aforementioned Scarlet made a deal with a witch, promising something which has not yet been revealed and I'm like...hmmm...if we find out and it's something super bad, would Astrophelle try to make a counterbargain and give herself up for Scarlet? I am excited to see how this pans out as well!!)
