Started some rough work on two minis today! A Yuan-ti malison and a mindflayer, both for my brother. Purple and gold is my fave colour combo, so I love how the yuan-ti is turning out! I shall call him...Neil. They're having an argument about whose turn it is to cook dinner.

First, some older stuff. Two-and-a-half-drow! Not my best work, but I just really love drow okay?!?? (Zazz the rogue, Xyniir the (unfinished) ranger, and Dylan the half-drow sorcerer.) WIP Neil! Right after I painted the green cloth around his waist. Neil and the 'elf cleric' I'm painting! The latter is the same model I plan to use for Laurel...when we eventually do Dragon Heist! Laurel will have a slightly different colour scheme though. The faces on these two are nice and defined, which I appreciate a lot.

Today I played Dylan for the last time in a two-part adventure (DMed by our very own Celes!) I'm happy with how things wrapped up for him (and for everyone, oh my goodness, what a nice ending!) Sometimes when I leave a character behind I feel there are Unfinished Things, or that I will miss them Very Much, but while I really enjoyed playing Dylan I'm happy with how stuff panned out and don't feel bad about retiring him. I did, however, opt to touch up his mini just a tad after the session. This photo looks blurry but trust me, the mini is terrible and better off blurred. =P Dylan Dalacasilterxaph- variant half-elf sorcerer (guild artisan [shipwright] background.) Stat bonuses: +2, +3, +4, +0, +0, +5. (ft. paper towel used for Drying Brushes in the background. =P) (the wave is from a Moana playset I was given when I stopped working at the Disney Store, heh. I had him standing on that next to me while I played these two sessions!) ft. (now that I can freely talk about this...) -Spellcasting focus! (the staff) -Cloak of Protection (from his parents!) -Terrible Facial Hair (if I retouch the mini again, I'll make it slightly lighter to work better with his hair colour, and extend it right back to the edge of his jaw. Ages ago Moni had the brilliant idea that he can only grow awful patchy facial hair, because half-elf, so I ran with it because I adored this idea.) -Water! Magic!!! Most important magic. He didn't actually use it much in the game...he called some lightning though and that was rad, and made me feel really good because this is the second time I've been the one to finish off a Boss Monster, and the first time I've been allowed to describe it, which was really nice. -Debated getting another mini to paint him in water-form, but he'd either be a) mostly the same but transparent, or b) an actual puddle of water. So no real point, especially since the former would be impossible given they don't make this model in a transparent version!

Today I started a Slightly Ambitious Thing! So far, I haven't done anything major to figures- I swapped a hand on Zazz's mini, and I turned an instrument into a Weird Thing on Xyniir's.
But my friend regularly takes two or three minis and sticks them together to create a Cool New Mini. Most recently, she made an awesome flaming starry mini for her warlock and it was EPIC. On my end, I have a bunch of minis lying around I'll probably never use, so decided to try whip up a version of one of my characters who is not yet represented by a figure.
I don't actively play this character, and don't need a Perfect Pretty mini for her. I also don't need the minis I'm hacking apart, so this is a pretty good First Major Alteration Project Thing.
I'm pretty excited! I spent a decent portion of this afternoon breaking minis apart, and while my cat kept getting in my face, I've at least managed to get the pieces for the body and weapon hand mostly sorted (sourcing head, second hand and both arms, and legs from other figures, we'll get to that later.)

The pieces so far!!!! (they are less blue than they look in this image.) Weapon hand- cut apart a flail, rejoined the top and bottom portions to turn it into a morning star. It's a little bit short for one but ehhhh, who really cares??!!?? I may lengthen the handle slightly later if I can be bothered, but this piece will be fragile enough as is. From an 'elf fighter' Wizkids mini, it was the spare in the two-pack I bought when I made Zazz. Torso- oh man removing the limbs and head was TORTURE. This is from a test print of a human fighter, or maybe ranger? I'm not sure, I got the mini as a bonus when I bought minis for Floral. Shield hand- the hand and shield are from another test print I got with Floral, which I think was a dwarven fighter or cleric? The forearm is from the 'elf sorcerer' I stole Zazz's spellcasting hand from. Feet- wow very exciting. The lower legs and feet from the aforementioned 'elf sorcerer'. Afterwards, the whole thing will be re-primed in dark grey, which should help hide some of the scratches and stuff too. But scratches on the torso and limbs will actually be fine for this particular mini anyway, so it's not a big deal. I know where I'm getting most of the other pieces I need, except the head...may need to buy a whole new mini for that. Oh well! That will mean a whole extra miniature to use some time later!

More progress! The figure I'm decapitating should arrive in the mail tomorrow. I thinnkkkkk it has a cloak too, which will be good as I can use that to cover the Extensive Damage to the back from me trying to remove the bottom of the long-haired Original Head this figure had. *The weapon arm looks soooooo bad from one side, but really good from the other, which is thankfully the side that will be most visible. *I'm very happy with the shield arm. I wanted a roundel shield and this will be fun to paint. *I'm not happy with the front leg. It looks like it's bent at a really weird angle which, also, should mean the figure's front leg is slightly lower than the back. I may break it again and muck around with it later. And the legs are just too long in general, so I might break both and cut them down to the top of the boots. EDIT: Stuff I have done in the last four hours, since this update... *Used nail clippers to create a more uneven texture along the arms (you will find out why in a bit if it pays off!) *Reglued the torso to the legs (looks much better now!), reglued the shield arm purely because I broke it (sob), and reglued the morning star to make it longer. I used part of a Warhammer Tomb King's spear. I cannot get this thing to look straight, crie. *If the donor mini for the head doesn't arrive tomorrow (which it should, but there have been muck-ups before) it will be Monday. Fingers crossed for tomorrow though!

Today the model I needed to yoink the head from arrived! They were super sneaky...we got the notification it had arrived (along with my copy of Rainbow Rowell's Wayward Son!!!!), and I checked and the driver had somehow managed to walk up the stairs and leave it right outside the door without any of the three people who were home noticing. =O The model is a 'female human druid' Nolzur's marvelous, and it's actually a very pretty model. I felt really bad cutting off the head and shoulders and kinda just chucking the rest in a box. xD I'll use it some time! (was originally just going to take the head, but decided I liked the super pretty shoulder-bits as well.) (check out that cool skirt bit! And boots! So pretty.) I spent the day filing down these two pieces so they would fit nicely together. There was much internal screaming and dust EVERYWHERE. But it's turning out pretty nice so far! <3 (okay so this first pic looks a bit cruddy but I'M WORKING ON IT.) (Just admire this one and how pretty the hair sits! <3) I especially love the little bit of greenery at the back. She's supposed to be covered in plants anyway, and I may tack a bit more plantlike stuff on, but that's why I belatedly realised the druid model was a super cool choice for head donor!!!! The model's eyes are closed which, weirdly, means the eye area is better defined than on many. Which is helpful because I need to fill the left eye in dark blue and then have a jagged scar-thing down from there in the same colour. I won't be able to do it justice on such tiny features, but it's my favourite aspect of her design so I'll do my best!

Oh my gosh, are you making a Nassi mini?! That's amazing! It is looking great so far and I am sure once you paint it, it will look even more epic! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks Celes. <3 I am indeed! I've attached both arms now but I need to rebreak one because it's not right...and am glad you like the progress! Will hopefully get everything glued today, leave to dry, and then prime when I get home tomorrow evening.
It will be primed in dark grey and then painted similar to the colour scheme in the art your DM did, for the parts that line up. The rest I'll just use colours that look nice.

Glued everything together! Might add a little aesthetic plant goodness, leave it to dry overnight, and then prime tomorrow. Originally I was going to scratch the scar into her face, to more accurately reflect how it looks in the lovely art her DM did of her. But I forget before attaching the head, and don't really want to risk breaking everything, so I'll most likely just paint it on. Still worried about some of the proportions and, like, nobody would ever hold a morning star at that angle. But that's the angle the arm attached at and maybe she's like...lightly poking a body with it to see if they're still alive or whatever I dunno. xD (Since I haven't been clear until now because I didn't know if this project would work out: her name is Nassi Day, she was a Perfectly Normal Hoomin until she spent a lot of time in the Feywild and went a bit weird, and she is A Good.)

Primed the figure tonight! Weird bit on the weapon arm should be a bit of twig or leaf, may need to trim it down. But look at the pretty shoulder pieces! And the pretty leafy bit behind her! Yay! <3

Touching up Ursh's mini for the finale of their campaign this Sunday. Decided to show Neil some more love too. <3 (we expect ze Final Battle to take two sessions, but it starts this Sunday anyway. Since taking this picture I've painted their base a very light brown to contrast better with Ursh's colour scheme.) For comparison, here is Ursh's unpainted HeroForge model. One of only two models I've ever ordered from the site- mostly I just play around with making models with no intention of buying.

Almost finished tidying Ursh's mini before Sunday's game. Did a bit of work on Floral too, painting her base dark to make the figure stand out more! I think with Ursh now, I just need to tidy up the border between the boots and the actual base. But I can do that tomorrow. (half-orc ranger/cleric and their ghostly giant weasel sidekick.)

Did some work on my human fighter Nassi! Started on the eye/scar- although it definitely needs work- and painted the opposite eye in! I adore how the greenery is turning out too, and the shield is looking very nice. The boots will be darkened and I'll probably use a sepia wash on those, haven't decided on a colour for the gauntlets yet. Made from six different minis: (1- Wizkids human druid) head/shoulders/the leaf behind her, (2- 3D printed human fighter) the body down to the coat, (3- 3D printed dwarf cleric) the shield and half that arm, (4- Wizkids elf fighter) the morning star and part of that arm, (5- a Warhammer weapon) a section in the middle of the morning star, (6- Wizkids elf sorcerer) the legs and the top portion of each arm.

For my birthday, my friend got me the Army Painter basing set! So I'll be able to add snow, grass, rocks, sand etc to bases! So exciting! :-D
