There's a piece on the shoulder which I tried disguising as hair. Didn't really work, I might give up and paint it silver. I wanted to do a simplified version of the boots Celes designed for this character (the above links to Celes' art thread. They are a) my favourite thing he owns (to the point that none of the party know what the actual magic item he started with was, as they thought it was the boots), and b) just overall more interesting than Moar Black!!! So I first painted the boots black and am working a few areas back up to white, with increasingly thin lines on each layer, before I cover the unneeded lines with black and HOPEFULLY. It will look nice. Tipped it over- you can see the lines on the nearer boot better from this angle. Since the first image, I've also moved one of the lines/'legs' (the lines on the sides are spider legs) higher up to try and cover a join between armour pieces (given that this is supposed to be armour, but I wanted to make it look less armour-y.) EDIT: I managed to paint the ring onto one of the mini's fingers tonight! And it looks really nice, in spite of being painted under poor lighting, so I'm pleased.

I finished painting my Zazz mini!!! I still have a lot to learn, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out (got a few grey smudges on the hair, but that's my biggest issue so I'm not too worried!) Here he is with Ursh's unpainted mini, and a standard 20mm d20 for scale! Turnaround bright eyes(He does have quite bright eyes, actually, but I didn't paint them in the end because Too Complex.) And finally...Zazz faceth a dragon! =O He'd be dead in like 0.5 seconds due to being a) a squishy, b) on his own, and c) only level seven.

Oh wait, this brush jammed right now the back of the paint shelf is thinner than the main one I used for Zazz? MUCH FRUSTRATE!!!
(am currently painting a vampire and a bugbear! The vampire is dressed in deep purple, with a bright purple and gold cape and turquoise cravat. Because he's a fancy guy! I'm very proud of how the bugbear's axe is turning out. The vampire is the most fun, but the angle of his cape makes it difficult to paint some areas.)

Didn't feel like finishing off the vampire or bugbear today, so I started playing around with ideas for my gal Astrophelle. I mixed body glitter into the paint, don't know if it will stick but right now her wings go SPARKLE SPARKLE!!!

Whoops! Forgot to upload this yesterday: blurry family snapshot of my three current projects. (Astrophelle won't be painted proper-like until much later. I was tempted, but want to wait until closer to game start, which is still a few months away.) Back: elf ranger! Am making them a moon elf, drow are my fave of the Core Handbook Three, but it's clear the figure is based on Drizzt and I'm feeling like rebelling. The cape is now green, I did a couple layers in a couple shades of brown first, so when I took this it was still brown. Front left: bugbear! Am naming him Klarg, after the first Bugbear I ever set on my first-ever party (and also, since it was the same module, after the Bugbear in TAZ!) The little patches of fur on his limbs make painting him a bit frustrating. The axe was very fun to paint! Front right: vampire! He's been the most fun to paint, I got to use two kinds of purple and the underside of the cape is a beautiful bright gold. I also used a 'Citadel Technical' for the first time ( blood for the blood god), and it looks pretty good! Well, second time- I tested it first by brushing a sort of bloodstain onto the bugbear's axe. (ft. BB8 mug/pencil holder.)

Bugbear and vampire are finished! Well, they're not perfect but I'm as done as I'll ever be with them (they belong to my brother and he's happy enough, so I'm not too worried!) Here they are: Here's the elf ranger! Did some more work on them too. Most of this won't stay grey- it's just a starting point to build on top of. As well as this I started painting a tiefling sorcerer in asexual pride colours (for Pride month!), and ahhhh I love this model??!?? I love the poofy skirt! And the corset! And I especially love how that spell effect is turning out- looks like a super cool plume of smoke! Another picture of this tief gurl:

Progress on ace pride tief and ranger elf. I will be unofficially dubbing them 'Hearts' and 'Drozzt.' (yeah the tiefling's face and torso are kind of a mess right now...don't look too closely.) Should be starting on some weasel miniatures soon (!!!), and maybe a sorcerer elf too. The one whose spellcasting hand I DIDN'T steal for Zazz would actually be perfect for my half-elf sorcerer in an upcoming one-shot. And the weasels and sorcerer actually belong to me, so I can keep them instead of handing them back to my brother! (we used the vampire I painted for the first time in a session last week. I was very proud! He represented a relatively friendly vampire called...Count Horatio, because my brother/DM hadn't thought of a name beforehand.) EDIT: the main lesson I learned from working on the above minis is that I should use 'boltgun metal' for spell effects more often, it looks SO GOOD.

The weasels arrived today! The ears on the translucent weasel weren't turning out quite right, so the company sent me both the opaque and translucent weasels...and a couple of surprises besides! (didn't realise how bad this lighting was until I uploaded it from my phone camera.) They came in this cute little box. <3 Orange crepe paper kept them safe inside! I really love that human archer! The dwarf/human is pretty cool too, but I defs want to use the cool archer and their cool coat for something one day. I even started looking at what primer I want! I still haven't ever used primer but since I mostly paint pre-primed Wizkids, it's been okay. I went over some details of Drozzt and (especially) Hearts with a finer brush today. I'm really happy with how Hearts' face and chest are cleaning up! I added some wear to Drozzt's cloak but am not sure if I like how this looks, so will play around with it more another time. I filed some imperfections off the weasel (Floral) but kept others there as a) I am lazy and b) they're a spirit, they can look a bit wibbly. The colour and translucency looks a lot better here than it did irl...I ran it under water at one point because the blue glaze had gone on too thick and got rid of that nice translucency.

Finished painting Hearts today! This little ace tiefling is ready to cast a spell on anyone who tries to invalidate her or her rainbow friends! This is my favourite model I've painted. I love the swooshy skirt, the cool spell effect, and tall boots! I'm also really happy with how she turned out, and especially proud of the hand- no random black or purple spots on the pretty white glove! Hearts belongs to my brother, but I think if I play a tiefling again one day I'll create one around this model (which is still very easy to buy, it's one of the more recent Wizkids ones!) I would love a chance to paint it all over again. I also finished painting Ursh's weasel sidekick, Floral! I should have taken to it with sandpaper first...and actually still need to buy a primer for unprimed minis like this one...but oh well! Floral is a ghost and I'm still so, so happy to have a mini of them. (see? Very rough. The mini also came out wrong, which is why I got a solid version of the weasel free, but I wanted to use this one. The faceless wibbly look kinda works for a ghost.) Floral with Ursh and my other player characters! The scratches on Ursh's base annoy me and I don't know where they came from...the only one fully painted here besides Floral is Zazz, lucky boy.

Today I finished Drozzt! I couldn't remember how I made that shade of purple I used on the boots, so my solution was to make it look like he'd been walking through mud. I added some mud splatters to other parts of the figure and think it actually turned out pretty cool! (ft. some fun folded sweatshirts in the background.) Some D&D characters are awesome. They have fascinating complex backstories ft. like six dead parents, they are cool and witty and go around seducing all the npcs. Then you have Dylan. Dylan is a grumpy sentient puddle. This was a very rough paint job to test a colour scheme I had in mind. I think I'm going to make this a darker emerald green...or maybe just black. The gold trim stays though because I love it way too much. (The water looks very nice though! I'd just intended to paint the water today but then got carried away trying to pick a colour scheme. I thought blue and gold- but didn't want to use typical 'water' colours- and then maybe purple and gold, but I did that recently with the vampire.) (oooh red and gold could be nice though...) Dylan is a half-elf sea sorcerer I'm playing in Celestial 's upcoming one-shot! Moni is roleplaying his sister, we're going to have the bestest time and absolutely nothing bad will happen to either of them... =D

Today I did five layers on Dylan's attire: a light brown base, two coats of a darker brown, a coat of grey, and finally a coat of green. The final result isn't quite as dark as I'd envisioned but I really, really like it! Obviously the gold needs to be touched up big time but my new ultra fine brush arrived today, and that will be a good way to test it out. Tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment I'm kinda nervous about, but also a new mini should be arriving for me (a super secret gift I'm painting up for an irl friend!) Even if it doesn't arrive I'll get it Friday, and tomorrow I'll still have the gold detailing and whatever part of Dylan's mini I decide to work on to look forward to when I get back from town.

Behold! Dylan the Swamp Witch (because I've overused the sentient puddle joke) now has colored boots, the gold trim on his coat has been tidied a bit (but there's still more work to do there), and I've painted his belt a nice blue-grey! The belt loop thingies will be dark green like the coat when I finally get around to them, but I ran out of daylight today (it's overcast so felt dark even earlier than usual.) No idea yet what colour the cloak will be. Gold? Blue? Silver? idk I'll get there. I have a nice new pink as well which won't get enough use (although I fully intend to paint a pink tiefling one day), I could go for that but don't think it would mesh well with the green.

I have another project I'm working on right now which I don't have pictures of just yet, but it taught me a lot! Because white was included in the colour scheme, I covered the whole thing in a white base first and started to wonder...why don't I do this normally??? (I know why- laziness- but it makes things look so much better!) Anyway, so learning from this I went and did a base and foundation on the unpainted sections of Dylan's mini. And at the same time finished up the cloak...I'm really happy with how it turned out! Can't remember the names of the first few layers right now...but then it was royal blue, hawk turquoise, and guilliman blue as a glaze (I googled that last one for the spelling and apparently it was discontinued earlier this year...WUTT??? Better make the most of what we have!) It has a sort of water-y, inconsistent look, which is due to me being new to this...but also really suits him being a sea sorcerer!

Dylan the fishboi. Leggings and boots will get more coats of paint, the rest will be tidied up and uhhhh I'll paint the face and hands at some stage! The hair is sort of brown/dark blonde, but it's not showing up so well here. This one's a gift! A trans pride genasi (well the box says genasi- unpainted she could really be anything!), in the same vein as my ace pride tiefling, only now I have a finer brush so she can be neater. It's a little overexposed: the hair is white but that middle section of the cape is light pink; like the bowstring, chestplate, and lighter sections on her legs.

Made a little progress on Dylan today, but the 'genasi' is finished! She was a lovely model to work on. Anyway, here's a turnaround! She has eyes! =D
