Does anyone have a guide to square bracket formatting? Would be very helpful! Did you have specific questions regarding the formatting, or a basic how to for it? I'm not aware of any guide on the subject, but I'm sure there are plenty of people here that can help with any questions you may have on the subject!

Neopets actually has a helpful guide for HTML basics, so you can probably find a lot of answers there! The only difference between that guide and NT entries is that whenever they say to use <> brackets, you would replace them with [] brackets. For example, the guide says to italicize by using <i></i>, so for an NT entry you'd change it to .

Hey, I've detected an uptick in getting-stuff-doneness =D In light of the recent human revolution (henceforth referred to as such), I wanted to get back into my crusade to deal with the custom thumbnails being hotlinked to the submitters' own imagehosts, being equal parts security risk and straight-up unethical. Since the editorial of issue 903 talked about the broken thumbnail submission form and how to get around it, I sent in this question: They didn't respond to it in this week's editorial, but all three custom thumbnails in issue 904 are now hosted on the actual images.neopets.com server. Heckin' finally, it hasn't been done for at least three years. Of course it's possible that Aesop would've done that anyway, the last instance of a custom hotlinked thumbnail I could find was back during Jade's time in the Neovian Gothic collab. Still. Improvements. Also means that contacting them via the Editorial now may or may not be more reliable than neomail.

The thumbnail for my issue 900 piece still hotlinks to the offsite imagehost I used (imgur). www.neopets.com/ntimes/index.phtml?section=580881&week=900I guess they won't be going back to fix these hotlinks. Still, it's good to know they'll be hosting user-submitted images on the Neo server from now on.

I doubt they'll be going back to change the thumbnails - the hotlinking has been going on for so long that it'd be a few full days' work at the very least. Even though it still means essentially sitting on top of a security liability and hoping that it won't come back to bite them. (this isn't just me doomcroaking either, in light of that one fun time when links in Neo's new features led to an X-rated site after it changed hands. But hey, competence going forward is probably the best we can currently ask for.)

The NT editor can now be contacted via Neomail sent to tnt_aesop!
Very important information in this week's editorial in response to Twillie 's question!

I was looking back at this thread and noticed it was in need of some updating, so I changed some of the information already on the original post as well as adding a new point or two. Since Aesop's assistant (and likely future NT Editor) Mx. Macabre has been active on the Neoboards sharing their NT judging process and taking feedback, I feel it would be best to keep this thread as up to date as possible as they communicate with us. I'm including quotes of theirs and links to relevant Neoboard threads so that others can see the conversations for themselves, and of course anyone else is free to share information as it comes out, as well as point out anything on here that is incorrect or out of date.
Mac is also active on a Neopets discord server that, while not an official fan site, does have a number of TNT staff members in it and a large member base that may often ask Mac questions on there. They'll answer said questions and occasionally give general insight relevant to the NT there as well, and while I don't check on that server regularly, I'll try and bring any information from there to here that I feel is important. I encourage anyone else in that server who catches important information from Mac to do the same.

How to contact creative contest staff update (source: TNT Stone)
- broader questions that multiple people would benefit from hearing the answer to, such as questions concerning submission timeframes or themes and content, had best be sent through the Editorial
- neomail should be reserved for individual situations such as problems to fix with specific entries, keeping in mind that an answer may take time as staff are all fairly busy
- questions regarding the Neopian Times can be addressed to tnt_stone and tnt_adler
- questions regarding other writing contests can be addressed mainly to tnt_adler

Hey, question: If I want to include neoboard emoticons, should I format it as an image or use the neoboard code?

I'd recommend treating them like images, as I doubt the submission form has the means to convert the coding into emoticons like the neoboards do, and I don't know that the editors would see the coding and replace it for you.
