Hey everybody! Friendly neighborhood goderator here with some questions to pass along to folks who either aren't on discord or understandably don't feel like skimming through the backlog of said discord.
Q: Can the healer de-corrupt the original sowers?
A: No. The sowers were corrupted willingly, and cannot be purified by the healer.
Q: Could the island feasibly defy the laws of physics to make it survivable to animals maladapted to the given climate? (Such as creatures from a desert or tundra.)
A: Yes- assume that the magic ~never go extinct~ power of the island keeps your creature alive and in relative comfort regardless of their natural habitat.
Q: When I die, can I still participate? How would that work? Can I reincarnate my character as something else?
A: Dead players are out of the metagame, so dead sowers may no longer strategize with their team and dead residents may no longer vote in mob executions or (in the case of power roles) perform their role function. However, dead players can still participate in the roleplay. Any NPC characters you had obviously aren't dead, and if you want you can even keep your PC character around as a ghost. I do ask that the dead not be reincarnated/resurrected, however, as it goes against the spirit of the game.
Q: Speaking of voting, how does that work for the players that get corrupted? Do they still vote? Since they're allied with the sowers now, do they try to get the residents executed?
A: The corrupted residents are not allied with the sowers- in meta they are still allied with the residents, and should still vote to eliminate the sowers. Their vote does have a special condition, however- I will count all of the corrupted votes together and their internal majority will count as a single vote in the overall mob execution tally.
Q: Can I have (X plant) on the island for (plot thing) even though it isn't native to the island's climate?
A: In general I'm not going to micromanage the island's flora. If there is a plant your character requires for whatever reason, assume the island's magic will grow at least one specimen of it, if not a small clump. (Though I do ask that your character not be actively cultivating the plant in neat rows, as that edges into the territory of behaving too human-ish.)
Q: If the corrupted randomly attack based on RNG, does that mean they could possibly attack one of the sowers?
A: Nope; the sower players are excluded from the lottery for corrupted killing. Other corrupted residents, however, are not, and can potentially be killed.

Did somebody ask for more hype? No? Too bad, you get some anyway!
In order to help facilitate interaction and plot development without impeding personal storylines too much, each round of the roleplay will involve at least one scenario (sometimes a few). The scenario will be an event or situation that the characters in the story can address or react to. For example, a round might have the scenario "there was a rockfall at the Crystal Crags" in which your characters can be victims caught in the rockfall, or bystanders helping dig out those victims.
However, while there may be a few scenarios that the entire cast is locked into for story reasons, for the most part all scenarios are entirely optional. If there is a personal plot you would rather spend the round addressing, there is no obligation to participate in the scenario if it would impede that. What's more, if there is an upcoming mandatory scenario, I will be sure to let everyone know in advance so that they may bring personal arcs to a good stopping point beforehand.
As always, let me know if you all have any thoughts or feedback!

My thoughts on this are YES, THANK YOU!! I love the idea of scenarios, especially for a murder-y type game like this, because I admit I tended to fall into a repetitive cycle of just reacting to the death every round on previous mafia games. XD;; (Not the fault of the games themselves, just how I played ^^;; ) As someone who is just a casual RPer and not much of a writer either, having these optional scenarios sounds like it'll be very helpful, and I bet they'll be great at facilitating interactions too. =D

I should post my character refs here at some point anyway, so here we go. LeftName: Kopi (My PC) Species: Cunicanine (Cuniculus + Canine) (Giant Flemish Rabbit + Basset Hound) RightName: Tash (My backup character NPC) Species: Artacat (Artace + Cat) (Venezuelan Poodle Moth + Bobtail cat) And now their profiles Background
Kopi and Tash have known each other since they were both kittens. Kopi’s fluffle (group of curicanines) took in Tash when they were both very young. From then, they became best friends and are nearly inseparable.
They both love walking around the island on Naelus, though they officially reside in the Highwind Woods. Kopi dug the warren all by himself (and he will not let Tash forget it).
Kopi and Tash have a brother-sister relationship. They are essentially siblings, after all. They’re different species, but they consider each other family. The two get along well, though they have petty arguments from time to time. You know, like siblings do.
Kopi
Kopi can be summed up in two words. “Paranoid mess.” He is scared of almost everything. Nobody is quite sure why that’s the case, not even Kopi. He’s been like that ever since he was a kitten. He doesn’t go up to high areas, he doesn’t get into any sort of water that his paw can be submerged in, he doesn’t eat anything he’s not familiar with, etc.
Kopi is also very protective. He is very wary about anybody he’s not familiar with getting close to him, Tash, or his warren. Tash thinks it’s born from him being so paranoid all the time. He thinks acting tough will keep away any unwanted intruders that would hurt them, but nothing like that has ever happened.
Don’t let the paranoia fool you. Once Kopi warms up to someone, he’s extremely friendly. He’ll always be a bit wary of almost everyone, though. The only animal he’s completely comfortable around is Tash. Still, he’s known for friendly banter and bad jokes. Tash is convinced he just likes seeing her roll her eyes.
Tash
Tash is essentially that cool big sister type. She keeps an eye on Kopi and keeps him sane. Tash is extremely chill and friendly. Once you get past the wall of Kopi, she’s extremely approachable. She’s sly, sarcastic, and clever.
Tash likes to tease people. She never means it in a mean spirit. In classic sibling fashion, she teases Kopi the most. Kopi doesn’t care, it’s just how Tash shows affection. It can come off as abrasive, though, if any animals aren’t used to it.
Because Kopi is so cautious, Tash picks up the slack and tries new things more. She likes water and loves flying. Kopi often makes Tash eat foods he’s not familiar with. Tash doesn’t mind most of the time, but sometimes he goes overboard.

Also posting my character refs here. =D Svar, the neurotic Slavic Firebird. His design is based on a peacock-pheasant. Despite being on Naelus for over a century, he is constantly terrified of everything. This is due to his kind constantly being the goal of quests of heroes throughout time and firebird feathers being said to cause misfortune. He is convinced his feathers cause him misfortune, has terrible memories of being captured and also mourns being a firebird. Which is hard when even crying means you cry pearls. Svar is just very sad about his lot in life, alright? xD He also hates being called a phoenix because "they are not the same!!" Morag, the wild Haggis. Morag is old. She is one of the older haggises on the island and the only one of them who is even-legged. That gives her the ability to travel across flat land, whereas most haggises can only go on hills due to their uneven legs. She is very friendly but not quite there due to her age. This causes her to go up to everyone and starting a conversation with them, even if they are dangerous predators. However, nobody wants to be That Creature and thanks to this, she has remained uneaten. You can tell she is around due to the characteristic haggis snuffling. Haggises use that to find food and tell where they are going. Her snuffles in particular are louder than normal because she is older and has some mild breathing problems. Also, a character question: what do your characters eat? Svar is exclusively vegan. He eats seeds, legumes, nuts and fruit, the latter being his favourite. He will always devour them whole if he can. This is very common for his kind. He is, however, very picky and makes sure his food is always fresh, since fermented fruits contain alcohol and he does not want to get drunk (grain soaked in wine is a common trick to capture firebirds). Morag mainly eats plants, in particular the softer parts of plants like shoots and flowers. Occassionally roots if they are exposed. Her favourite food is heather flowers. However, she will take soft bugs like earthworms and slugs if she can find them. Haggises in general are omnivorous, eating mainly plants but supplementing them with insects.

=D Characters! All the characters!
The historic diet of the thylacine is poorly understood, but their relatively weak jaws have led scientists to speculate that they were probably only capable of taking down small prey- aka birds and small mammals like bandicoots and possums. Captively held ones would generally eat whatever meat was offered them, however. It's likely Beech's family gets by mostly by eating small rodents and birds, although they're happy to trade for fish when they can. (They just tend to lack anything worth trading aside from the promise of not hunting that day.)
Quicksnap is an interesting case- he actually rarely needs to eat at all, a feature also common in modern large crocodillians. His metabolism is such that his body stores literally all of the food he eats, so he really only needs about 40-50 full meals a year. When he is ready to eat, he goes to the shoreline and offers his not insignificant strength in trade for one of the giant fish like sunfish, mola or sturgeons. One is generally sufficient to keep him going for a week, sometimes longer if he keeps his activity levels low.
Mochi, like real rabbits, generally grazes on grass. Fruit and veggies are nice when they can get them, but their diet is 99.9% grass. They of course also prepare their namesake desert from small clumps of rice on the island, but they prefer to give this away to others rather than eating it themselves.

I'm thinking both Kopi and Tash are omnivores. (Rabbits are herbivores, cats are carnivore, dogs are mostly carnivore, and moths will eat anything they can.) Kopi likes to graze on grass while Tash likes to fly up and eat leaves (moths don't eat leaves, but their caterpillars do and Tash never grew out of it). Tash does enjoy flower nectar and tree sap as a treat, though. When they do eat meat, it's typically small rodents or birds.
Tash usually does the hunting for the two, because along with being paranoid, Kopi is also clumsy. (Short stature, four long ears he can trip on, top heavy, etc.)

I think I ended up going with omnivores, for my taniwha- since in myth some actually eat people, while many take offerings of kumara from humans. Te Tai lives in the ocean and so eats a lot of fish and squid & whatever, while Kohimu is more often on the shore and enjoys kumara/sweet potato, as well as seafood he shares with his friend (and whatever else, I haven't fully thought it through.)
Question: are all animals sentient in this? Or can there still be, like, nonsentient fish etc. Just wondering cos the extinct beasties being used are obviously not traditionally sentient, so I wondered if this was extended to all animals.

Thorn I think the word you're looking for is sapient. I imagine most of the creatures on the island are, but the fish in general are not, the insects definitely are not, and if people really wanted I could be talked into there being some non-sapient smaller vertebrates, though at the moment I wasn't thinking so.

I meant both- most animals aren't sapient OR sentient. That sounds cool. I just wanted to know because I was debating how Kohimu would feel, morally, about eating sentient/sapient creatures. So if there's fish and kumara and stuff I can get around that. Thanks! =) EDIT: to say, not fully sentient in the way humans are. EDIT 2: Made a post! If anybody wants to work out an existing relationship with either of my boys, just let me know. =) ntwriters.proboards.com/thread/50083/keep-island-mind?page=10&scrollTo=2712632

Character refs! My PC and (current) two NPCs are a species I'm calling pygmy Dilophosaurus. Why pygmy? Because real Dilophosaurs could apparently stood around 10 feet tall, over 20 feet long (up to 7 meters), and could weight up to 800 pounds (400 kg). That's right - Jurassic Park lied about another dinosaur. Pygmy Dilos are a little less than half the size, as is marked on my PC's character sheet. As with all things dinosaur, a lot of behavior and appearance is speculation or I made it up but it was based on birds. I'm doin' my best here, guys. Without further ado, PICTURES Dilophosaurus (die-loff-o-saurus) My PC, Taakeyrr (tah-KEY-err) (female) Soaitsae (so-I-it-say) - Taakeyrr's father (NPC) Xsabaskis (x-sah-bahs-kiss) - Taakeyrr's sister (NPC) A note on names: what would make you think prehistoric birb names would be easy to pronounce I went with sounds that I imagined fairly easy to come from a dilophosaur mouth. I'm gonna have heads and names in my signature during the event for ease of other players' reference, though, 'cause I realize they're kinda cray XD
A note on crests: Did you know birds can see ultraviolet light? They can! There's some theory that dinosaurs - at least, later species - might have also had this ability! Dilophosaurs could conceivably be too early for it, but evolution oughta give them some compensation for the whole "taking away your towering size" thing. Pygmy dilos have markings on their crest that reflect ultraviolet light - invisible to animals who can't see UV light, but quite vivid to those who do. Males have more vivid patterns as, at least at one point in their evolutionary history, male dilos secured a mate by showing her how pretty healthy and colorful he was. Females have more subdued colors and patterning, as historically, they would be sitting on nests.
Modern pygmy dilos live in small groups more akin to a Harris hawk pack, however, and males and females both incubate eggs, tend young, hunt for food, and defend nests. The individual markings do still have some use for quick identification in a fast-moving situation. A note on Taakeyrr: ...So, yeah, Taahkeyrr's got some very male-like crest patterns, huh? She also looks rather more like her dad than her sister in some ways, eh? I've decided I'm going to play her as intersex - I have doubts much of it is going to come up because I mean, she's a dinosaur, but as always, if I do something offensive or incorrect with it, please let me know so I can fix it! A note on Taakeyr's family: Dead mom - Kassissis | Dead brother - Sretash Because I keep forgetting their names and having to dig them out of an old doc. ....There might be more notes later, sorry in advance 8D Coelophysis (see-low-fie-sis) Plural: Coelophyses (see-low-fie-seas)Reference Size: - .45 meters (1.5 feet) tall at the hips - 1.5 meters (5ft) in length. RaptorsTechnically Deinonychus (die-non-ih-kus), but will respond to either nameAppearance Image maybe coming soon.
Chocolate-brown feathers with darker banding on the chest, stomach, and undersides of arm feathers, and lighter spotting on their backs and sides. Scales at the snout, hands, and feet are black. Feathers, particularly on the head and tail, are tipped with an accent color. They have more colorful eyes than other dinosaurs, expanding to blues and greens as well as yellows.
Like all dromaeosaurids, the Deinonychus's second toe on each foot bears a large, curved claw. While these claws were believed for a long time to be used as slashing weapons, modern paleontology suggests they were more likely used to climb trees and to pin small prey.
Deinonychus did not pygmy very much, and retain about their prehistoric size; roughly .87 meters (2.5 feet) tall at the hip, and about three meters (11 feet) in length, though much of their length is just tail. Deinonychus weight is estimated to be anywhere 73 and 100kg (160 - 220 lbs); for simplicity's sake, we'll say that Naelus Deinonychus max out around 81kg (180 lbs). ((Basically, picture something about the size of the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park, as they were Deinonychus in all but name. ...and now, outdated paleontological information) Pack Structure Matriarchal pack, led by a female and to some extent, her mate. The young from a previous nest may stick with the pack for a few years before seeking out their own mates, helping to raise and protect their parent's current young chicks. Yellowtail's Pack Roster Yellowtail - Leader of the pack. Yellow feather highlights, especially bold on her tail. Green eyes.
Nettleback - Yellowtail's mate. Dark green feather accents.
Windteeth - Adult daughter of Yellowtail. Feather highlights are pale green.
Duskrunner - Another adult daughter of Yellowtail. Feather highlights are dark indigo. Y'know. Like. Dusk.
Driftstone - Adult son of Yellowtail. Feather highlights are mottled blue-gray and black. Blue-gray eyes.
Shadowstep - Driftstone's mate, a male from another raptor pack. Feathers are a bit tawnier and banding pattern is slightly different from the other raptors in the pack (because he's not related, duh). Black feather highlights, and black feathering at his feet.
Sunspeckle - Yellowtail's older brother, presumably either lost or never had a female mate and hatchlings
Wolfthorn - Chick, son of Yellowtail and Nettleback. Brown feather accents.
Hightide - Chick, child of Yellowtail and Nettleback. Blue feather accents.
Snowstorm - Chick, child of Yellowtail and Nettleback. Light teal feather accents. Work with them here.
