That's IT, I'm double posting =/ It's GIRL GROUP TIME. Kpop is being all retro and disco and synthwave-y at the moment and I'm digging it! For starters here is some goofy fun, because here is Mamamoo coming to pull me out of the trash Mamamoo - DinggaMain event: Twice had a comeback, and it's disco, and it's catchy and it's my favourite thing they've made! Twice - I Can't Stop Me (video) (CW: train cliffhanger) - audio - dance practiceI like how they're getting more complex choreography with smooth transitions and moves that show off their athleticism and flexibility. But also, props to Twice for teaching me never to dismiss something as too girly and cutesy, otherwise I might miss out on a really fun video of girls trying and failing to flirt with an alien using their superpowers: Twice - Signal (video) (CW: eye close-ups, big-eyed alien masks) - audioHey they have some more songs I like! yeet Recent: Make Me Go - Oxygen (I was very pleasantly surprised by this one) - Shadow (okay one more why not, it's quieter) "double rainbow"? I think you meant... Rainbow by Twice! yay happy fun Older: Only You - TOUCHDOWN (high energy) - Next Page (just comforting) Pleasant surprises: Sunset - Rollin*slams pile of kpop in front of you*

Watched a kiwi music documentary tonight, and it made me have A Lot Of Feelings, so here are some more of my kiwi faves!!! Home Again, by Shihad. This was the song I selected to listen to when I was returning to NZ, as our flight came in to land. The writer talked about how the song is supposed to encapsulate the sort of homesickness you feel when you come back to NZ after a long time and see those rolling clouds, and honestly that finally gave me a description for the Resonance I felt listening to it in that moment! Nature, by The Fourmyula. I mostly just know it as the song that used to be on the ad for meadow fresh milk...but it's very good. I was seeing what songs were released during my birth year, and I've always had a special soft spot for this one, which it turns out is pretty much the same age as me!! <3 Twin Galaxies, by Shapeshifter. Legit one of the best music videos of all time. And finally, Glitter, by Benee! She cleaned up at the New Zealand Music Awards the past two years in a row, she's fantastic.

Harper Finn performs this amazing song with a super fun music video!
It's called 'Dance Away These Days', and it sounds moody but is also just really lovely and fun.

Not quite a song, but I have fallen in love with this piece of music from Witcher 3. And this is a game with some already epic pieces of music. No idea if it's because it plays over a landscape which reminds me strongly of the Highlands, which in turn fills a gap in my heart, or because the lyrics are a Scottish Gaelic song. Either way, wanted to share.

SHINee's back. SHINee's Back! SHINEE'S BACK, BACK, BACK, bACC, GO hello hi I have been avoiding kpop comebacks for MONTHS because I didn't have time to properly focus on them and it'd be frustrating to get back into them, but TODAY youtube showed me a fresh new video of my group, they have been my group for like a decade now, this is a big fishin' deal okay, so my hand just slipped onto that link, this is nothing spanking new for them but it's basically the stuff I wanted them to make more of so it's perfect, this place has everything, the wardrobe, the initial moment of "what the heck is this", the surreal imagery, the flawless colour palettes - even their lip colour is on point hahaaaa - Key's faces, dance going HARD, it SLAPS don't mind me mind me, clear my schedule for the month and fill it with this (and the rest of the kpop I need to catch up with yes) (music video with some typical flashing lights in it somewhere)

Throwback Thunday JonghyunIf you're coming home late and tired and alone, or if it's late at night and you cannot find rest, these songs are here for you. End of a Day - Diphylleia grayi (Skeleton Flower) - 2:34 (not too late for some good time with friends!) Been listening to a lot of Jonghyun lately. There are many other songs I could link. He put so many feelings into song, some of them quite raw, but his delivery still tender, and so intimate. Let Me Out (for when you need to get off the planet) I actually put off listening to Poet | Artist for three years, probably because it's so, well, final. Listened to it at last this weekend, and it was a wonderful gift. It combines so many sounds, really a culmination of his solo works. Shinin' (bright and friendly) - Only One You Need (those drums?!) - Grease I especially like those songs for which I can't tell where they're heading at the start, and which then catch me off-guard with something gorgeous. SHINeeSHINEE's backListening to music takes TIME D= but I made it through their entire Korean discography. Anyway here are some less-famous songs from each era (okay, I spared you the REALLY old dramatic boybandy stuff =P) Prism (can a song sound shiny?) - Don't Let Me Go (groovy, fuzzy and nostalgic) An Encore (big ballad time) - Odd Eye (quirky and smooth as heck / the one where Key wore an eyepatch and fans died) Aside (happy anime ending) - Dynamite ( BTS whomst) Orgel (pop music box) - One Minute Back (it's just really good okay trust me it has an interesting beat and original structure) Reminds me of old school Lady Gaga: Strangerashgdhfgdfh that's still way too many links you can just click somewhere at random, dear post reader!!

All the finalists of this year's Popstars are so good! I don't even know who I want to win anymore. ;-; (probably still ZExII. We find out tomorrow who wins, I'm hoping it's ZExII or Skye.) So here I am, sharing all their songs from the special concert they put on right before the final! I'm hoping these four will do a tour together- I'd love to go see them all live! Skye Hine- Outlier ZExII- Trust Issues(this is an older song of his, the one he performed tonight had some of the Bad Words so I chose a different one. xD Tmrw Maybe is the song he performed tonight though, it's a great song and I definitely recommend it.) A.R.T- Be ReadyNew Zealand has precious few girl groups. I hope these ladies go far, they are amazing!!! Christabel- If you Ain't LookingI love Christabel. She struggles with anxiety but she's developed this amazing stage persona, she performs beautifully, and she got into the top twelve as a wildcard and I'm all for the underdog! (Also this song talks about touching down in Heathrow, and seeing the whole world in front of you and I am like...many thoughts of when I moved to the UK and it felt like the biggest most amazing thing I would ever do.) EDIT: Christabel won! I liked her song best out of the four final songs they performed, but overall I thought TJ and Skye were stronger performers and thought one of them would win. But I like that Christabel did, she's talked openly about struggling with ADHD and anxiety, and relating especially to the latter it's nice to see her succeed!

New song by one of my favourite bands, I've been listening to it on repeat the last week or two. <3 Chvrches are just consistently amazing, Lauren Mayberry's voice is one of my absolute faves. Possibly only second to Florence Welch. This is a very moody song inspired by the one time (Lauren says) that she almost left the band. Chvrches- 'How Not to Drown'

"Why are the kids all talking about the BTS, what is a BTS, help?" "BTS? Yeah, those kids, I've heard Dynamite/Butter *everywhere*. I don't really get what the fuss is about, though?" "I'm kind of curious about their beginnings but I don't want to have to learn every member's life story!" "But why is everyone posting Behind The Scenes??" ^ Are any of these you? No worries, this post is here for you!! Hello hi today I will show you my selection of older BTS songs, which could maybe help you see what the fuss was originally about. No need to learn the members' favourite colours or anything! I'm not an "ARMY", but I do know some stuff about BTS through kpopsmosis - let's say I know them well enough to recognise each individual member's voice. Currently BTS is becoming even more famous with a phase of trendy retro pop with mostly English lyrics. Before that, they were better known for k-hiphop, though. I think it was their rap line more than their vocals which made them stand out from other kpop groups - as well as their meaningful lyrics, high-energy comedy vlogs and challenging choreography. It's not common for idol groups to have rappers who actually started as rappers before getting recruited as idols. Let me start you off. Welcome, first time to BTS? (some flickering neons and spotlights in the video) THEY CALL ME! Baep-saaaeOne of the most iconic B-sides in kpop. " Cypher pt. 2 - Triptych" is a fossil, and my strongest recommendation, it's a bit weird as a clean edit but worth the listen. (Still the best BTS Cypher, don't @ me.) Going through changes in life? BTS is here for you - Moving On. I miss their old r&b sound. Not whelmed by Boy With Luv? It's okay, Boyz With Fun is where it's at! Just a fun staple. They're such a huge phenomenon it feels overwhelmingly giant? Ha, tell me about it! Bangtan Boys, more like Attack on Bangtan. (Bang! Stomp, Tan! Stomp,) Guys writing songs about girls with positive empowering lyrics and nothing gross? Huh. I guess. 21st Century GirlFor a soulful ballad, my pick would be Autumn Leaves. To me it does bring out the members' unique voices. Remember that "lonely whale" that was detected, or at least a whale call at a totally different frequency than other whales? BTS has a song inspired by the lonely whale. I find that sweet. Don't @ me. Not Today(a few gun shot sounds and miming) SO! In my eyes, this is where BTS peaked! Still edgy, a big impressive event-performance, that doesn't yet feel as overproduced as later works. The dance break still gives me chills every time I see it. And in their recent stuff, I quite like Anpanman, another upbeat turn-up track; Pied Piper is interesting and catchy, and 134340 is surprisingly jazzy.

Okay guys, please bear with me because I'll be sharing...GASP...a song from a Disney live action remake. Aladdin in particular, while it misses the mark in some parts, gets the remake thing right in others. One thing they got right was not relying heavily on autotune and casting actors who can sing. Anyway, the songwriters wrote an original Aladdin/Jasmine duet song entitled Desert Moon, but it was cut from the final version of the movie. Disney decided to upload it for everyone to listen and realize why a lot of people are disappointed that this song didn't make it. It's a beautiful song, it's really soothing, and the harmony is really good (I can think of other scenes in the movie that should not have been included which could have been replaced with THIS SONG). There's also a video with the corresponding movie scene that was cut, and if you've got Spotify, the song's in there too.

Even before the war, I was quite into Ukrainian folk songs. I decided to make a small playlist of good ones for my friends to help capture the spirit of my homeland. Thought I'd also dump them here for your listening pleasure. ^^ "Гарний козак, гарний" (No literal translation, closest I can do is "Great Cossack") Basically a big ol' brag about cossack glory, how it's proven through their actions and kicking enemy butt. It's a hype song. Imagine it being played by a bard as a great cossack horseback charge bears down upon the enemy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vPVcOqlZfs"Туман яром, туман долиною" (Fog in the ravine, fog in the valley") Atmospheric and sad song about fog, a girl drawing water from a well, and a cossack's promise to marry her eventually. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgScVTu7RqMwww.youtube.com/watch?v=hw5Qx_jki_o "Гей Соколи" (Hey, Falcons) www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TZA1AO7jgE "Їхав козак за Дунай" (A cossack rode over the Danube) Both very similar songs in premise: cossacks going away to war, the women wishing them luck and telling them to be safe. "Hey, Falcons" is also claimed by Poland as a folk song, but this version is Ukrainian. "Летіла зозуля через мою хату" (A cuckoo flew through my house) Song by a woman who realises she is in a relationship with a man who already has a family, and is heartbroken by the deception and what she has done to them. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pytu3F5T-bY "Пане господарю, на твоєму дворі" (Lord, What Is in your Yard?) It's a Christmas song celebrating the birth of Jesus and all the good stuff coming from it. (The video is especially poignant now because the artworks shown are from a folk artist whose things recently got destroyed in the invasion. Her Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Prymachenko)www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr7eh7iVi1g "Та косив, батько, косив я" (Father mowed, I reaped) Starts talking about farmwork, veers into talking about having the hots for a guy and asking him out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=06ore0t1vUk"Ой там на горi" (Oh, there on the hill) Sad song about two lovers where one is killed. And they are described as doves (though they are not literally doves) www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXimfemUKRM"Ой, віє вітер, віє буйний" (Oh, blow wind, blow strong) Quite a sad song about a cossack asking where his past glory is and mourning its loss. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WR8GgbfVt0"Гей, була в мене коняка" (Hey, I had a horse) Another mourning song of a cossack who had everything (a horse, a sabre, and a beautiful woman) but now farms the fields by himself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RD4GM6H-xrs"Ніч яка місячна" (What a moonful night) (I know moonful is not a word, but it's the best way to convey the meaning.) Very famous song about a guy inviting a woman out for a walk during a night with a beautiful moon, pointing out beautiful things to her and telling her not to worry about getting wet or cold. www.youtube.com/watch?v=po78Z3i1lq0"Гей, наливайте повнії чари" (Hey, pour full cups) It's a drinking song. Enough said. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPkVmdm7l4w"Спився козак, спився" (The cossack got drunk) A cossack got drunk. His horse was left to stand. His lover came and took care of the horse, then told the guy off for neglecting it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wnKgQKEyrc"Ти ж мене підманула" (You lied to me) This is very popular and there's a ton of versions of this one, some modern, hence why it might sound different. Girl agrees to dates, girl does not show up. Guy is annoyed. AKA I don't think she's into you, bro, take a hint- the song. www.youtube.com/watch?v=T81zkV3aSFgwww.youtube.com/watch?v=oQHkmfTXbnc(Second version has a good English lyric translation) "Несе Галя воду" (Carry, Galya, water) ("Galya" is a name) Girl is carrying water, guy is into her and keeps asking for a drink because he's thirsty (in both senses of the word) www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0kzIVPZ_pg"Розпрягайте хлопці коні" (Unsaddle the horses, lads) Cossacks stop for a break, guy goes to dig a well, he meets a girl there but she is not as beautiful as another he met (look, it's weird, but the tune is a banger) www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIUcAWp7MYk"Ой, розвивайся та сухий дубе" (Oh, grow you dry oak) Also known as the Zaporozhian march sometimes. A song about going to war, but a happy one (!!). www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRLS7WPSL4U"У лузі червона калина" (In the meadow is a red guelder-rose) (A type of plant with a ton of cultural significance: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viburnum_opulus)A song composed in 1914 for riflemen fighting for an independent Ukraine. Talks a lot about fighting enemies and making Ukraine proud and happy. As you can see, this is not a new motif in our history. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpiPdTmcnw8And finally, all rise for the National Anthem. "Ще не вмерла України і слава, і воля" (Ukraine has not died yet, nor its fame or glory) How we are going to fight and lay down our lives for freedom and our country, and we're badass. (wink) www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlbS4h6V7y8Enjoy! Glory to Ukraine!

As the most successful musician/songwriter/singer in the universe, I'd love to contribute to this delightful lil' board with two album recommendations! Maybe later I'd share more music; I've never done this before, so I'm a bit tingly! (Plus this distracts me from writing my new story) The first one is Folklore by Nelly Furtado. I've been listening to these songs for most of the 2010s, and they still hold up today. The songs give me strong 'autumn vibes', and the vibes are very similar to folk music. The lyrics for each song are very poetic, with deeper meanings behind them. All the songs are highly recommended, though Explode may be triggering. A line mentions a girl being r*ped Overall, it's an album worth checking out if you want to explore some songs with deeper depths and unique rhythms. The second is something I discovered last week: the soundtrack to Belle. I do admit to only listening to the English racks but they are FANTASTIC! Haven't checked out the Japanese tracks, but I'd recommend them too since the English covers are kira yaba. Now I want to watch the movie so badly.
