There was some talk on Discord about this, and I already have some songs I'd like to share, so here's the thread! \o/ I know we have the "Songs that are WOW" thread, but this is for the more casual song recommendations :3 Basically, if you want to share a song beyond posting a couple lyrics on the Games board, but aren't quite sure just how WOW it is, here's a good place to drop it off and let others enjoy! General rules apply: if you're going to link the song, it needs to be forum appropriate. We cannot regulate comments sections on other sites, so you just need to worry about the appropriateness of the song and video content when sharing. Which means a general BEWARE to everyone are you to venture into the great beyond that is the comments rabbit hole that may lurk below. --- As for the songs I want to share, they all come from indie artist, Chad Valley. If you were to have heard at least one thing from him before, it was likely Shell Suite: It was included in the Warm Bodies film soundtrack, and that at least was my first time hearing him. After I found it, for a while that's all of his that I listened to, but recently I've been giving his other music a try as well. From what I've heard, they've got a similar-ish vibe to Shell Suite, and he's very influenced by 80's synth and pop. Here are my personal highlights of his: Fall 4 U Now That I'm Real (How Does it Feel?) ((also, probably one of my overall favorite music videos? I... I can't really explain it, it's just very meditative for me x3)) And probably my absolute favorite of his, My Girl!

So I like a lot of popular music (Imagine Dragons, Florence and the Machine, Of Monsters and Men), etc. I'll try and think of stuff that's a bit less well-known for this thread! Everything I've listed right now is from NZ, but I'll leave out well-known modern artists, like Lorde. Don't Dream it's Over- Crowded House ^ This is an old song, and heard all the time in NZ. You sometimes hear this band in the UK too- and during the benefit concert for the victims of the Manchester attack, Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande performed this song. But I don't think the song is super well known internationally, so I wanted to share it here! I'll also chuck in Loyal, by Dave Dobbyn- well known to anyone who has ever been on hold with a government department in NZ! Twin Galaxies- Shapeshifter ^With this one, the video and the song are equally wonderful! Something in the Water- Brooke Fraser Something Good- Bic Runga (the video is super cute, I'd never seen it until now.)

Ooh, I'd like to share a couple of songs! They're both from people I follow in youtube, but they're very different, so I'll say a bit about them so you know what to expect. The first one I want to share is from dodie, who is a very talented musician. I love her music in general, but this one is one of my current favorite songs. It's about mental illness, which she struggles with, but the song itself is soft, and soothing, and hopeful. I think it's absolutely beautiful, and the music video is fully animated and gorgeous as well. I definitely recommend giving it a listen/watch! dodie - Secret for the MadNote: The music doesn't start until about 12 seconds in, so if you don't hear anything, give it time! The first time I turned up my volume really loud waiting for it, so I thought I'd warn you >>;;
This second one is a bit more just for fun. It's from Ahsante, who usually makes thoughtful videos talking about a variety of topics. She's insightful and creative and (in my opinion) a joy to watch, but this is the first time she releases an original song, so that's exciting! It's very timely because it is about Valentine's Day. Specifically, being single on Valentine's Day. It has a lovely positive message, and it definitely made me smile. It's also pretty catchy, so I just wanted to share! Ahsante the Artist - Every Single Valentine's DayAnyway, I hope you like them if you decide to check them out!

Oh, there are so many songs that I like. I'll refrain from posting too many in one post. This is a current favorite. At my church, we have one "traditional" service with the old hymns, which is the one I attend, then two contemporary services, with the newer "praise and worship" songs. Anyway, I was getting ready to leave at the beginning of the third service (had already attended the 1st and helped in nursery 2nd). Had my coat on and everything. I heard this song through the doors of the worship center, and had to slip in the back and sing along. When Death was Arrested - Laura Story (cover. Originally written/recorded by North Point InsideOut) Here's another one I love, appropriate for this time leading up to Easter. High Noon - Andrew Peterson

I don't think there's anything wrong with sharing popular music. I don't keep up so I'm sure I for one miss a lot of good stuff. On topic- Shawn Wasabi- Spicy Boyfriend Beat Circus- February Train Einsturzende Neubauten- Die Interimsliebenden edit: You know, I was thinking that I did not know any bands from NZ at all, but I remembered that isn't true! XD (Intro ends at 1:30)

So I just cannot get over how amazing one of the news songs from one of my favorite artists, Andrew Peteson, is. I could listen to this song on repeat all day and not tire of it. Could be in the "Songs that are WOW" thread, but since this is more recent, I'll post it here. Yes, it's a Christian song. No surprise, if you know me. There are also some... Negative comments about the video, which the artists acknowledged in an amazingly humble and gracious apology, which I'll post here too. Apology (also has the song at the end) Is He Worthy Video only

I know I'm pushing the limit of song here, since this is nearly an hour long, but I found out that the awesome Temple University performance of Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians that I attended a few years ago is on Youtube. Unfortunately it is without the extremely interesting introduction that discussed some of the ideas behind the work, Psychoacoustics, etc. It's still really cool though.

Don't Wait Up - Robert DeLong - I ran across this song during a time of my life when I was working nightshift and going to school part-time, isolating myself and my anxiety was through the roof. IDK, it spoke to me at the time and made me feel like I wasn't the only one. Find A Way - Nico & Vinz - Don't know anything about the movie this is from but I freaking love Nico & Vinz's sound, and the song just feels like a big happy warm blanket. Send Me Away - Truslow - The song for when I don't want to live on this planet anymore. (Actually I listened to this while drawing that Spaceman Wezsley picture.)

This is an older song, but it has a great message, and I felt like sharing it. These YouTube artists have a lot of good songs if you want to check them out! You're Worth It - Cimorelli
