Casually using this thread because unless I completely missed it, there was no thread for issue 851: The Editor by trishabeakens I like how you drew Scrappy, I don't even remember when/how she was given a Kougra visual form, the colours you used for her are pleasant. Nice going with the memes and Roo team poster in the background, they're just dim enough not to stand out too much. And as usual I love your Nera. I know the leaves in her hair are from a laurel crown thing, but in the second panel she's so confused that the leaves somehow fit her expression, like when an anime character is disheveled to show confusion. The smug way she looks at the viewer in the last panel, the way she times her own punchline, and the heart mouth make me imagine her with a voice like a cool sitcom mom trying to crack jokes. I can hear the laugh track. Royal Oddness: Holiday Edition by Royal Pain's winner19955 and Random Oddness' mistyqee Not forumers as far as I know? but I wanted to point this one out. Great collab by two comic stars, a cute winter scene in brown and white with fluffy trees and mischievous heads poking out from behind a tree trunk in that cartoony fashion. The high-five looks dynamic in front of that meme-like background. My favourite part was the punchline. That was a great idea, could have worked with most snow pets but snow Kikos are the ones that look just like big snowballs. I love how they designed the Kiko, the way the eyes changed, the way they're now balanced on powerful arms, and how they, a Kiko, even grew legs. Add the tone of the line "You fools -" which sounds like it should come in a deep booming voice, and you've got the start of a boss battle.

Hnnngh, I got caught up in a NT rereading spree and stumbled upon Team Squad Force, and now the nostalgia's hitting hard (especially since it's a milestone issue so there's a dozen other familiar comic series). I always loved reading crossovers like that, it just upped the coolness of those comics and characters in my head and made me even more like "I want that too!" xD

I agree Twillie, they are so cool. I've never done a crossover, but it might be a fun project to try some time.

Speaking of the Neopian Times Master Index, it looks like the site is broken. Search doesn't work at all. In fact, almost none of the site features are working anymore. It brings up this error:
Is anyone else having this issue, or is it just me?

Yeah, same thing happens for me :c It's been broken for months now I think, although recently the error message changed (I forget what it was originally).
The stats still update for each new NT, but a ton of other stuff got broken. I'm not sure how that happened or who (if anyone) is still maintaining the site or at least who last had access to it. Since it was started by members of The Neopian Times Appreciation Guild, which had a number of NTWF members in it, I dunno if anyone here has any insight on how to access the index or how to fix it?

The index has been around for a crazy long time, perhaps whoever maintained it decided to move on or couldn't quite fix it after it couldn't display the stats when we last saw the site up.
It's a shame though, it feels like the end of an era.

You might be able to track down the contents of the website through wayback machine. But it wouldn't be updated for future issues.
I wonder if it would be feasible to rebuild the site, or even build a more modern version. I'm guessing it ran on php? I don't know that much about php, my specialty is html and css, front end design. But I think we do have some programmers on the forum, I'll toss out the idea of rebuilding from scratch.

Bless this thread, I was just catching up on some of the old series I used to obsess over. Last I was active we were around issue 450, so it being up to 900 now is wild. As is seeing some of my favorite authors are still publishing stuff One of my biggest inspirations was Herdygerdy's series, primarily focused on the Witches and Mr. Jennings. I was so obsessed with the constant ongoing story/soap opera level drama. I tried to dig up where I had left off and decided to read a series tonight. www.neopets.com/ntimes/index.phtml?section=528427&week=520What's in a Name?I absolutely loved this. I was instantly engulfed in the sense of nostalgia, following the curmudgeonly witches and their dynamic. There's just something so amusing about a team of protagonists who have no problem being rude and brash in their methods. The tone of this story was so well executed, it felt like a veritable chilling horror. The threat of the wisp felt very real and sinister, and the way its attacks were portrayed were downright terrifying. The ominous opening remarks to each chapter also just added a looming sense of dread. I sort of took me a moment to realize it wasn't just some flavor text and background, but a threat of what was to come. I did figure out who our mystery villain likely was based on the comments, but that didn't make the reveal any less satisfying. I think that's evidence to good storytelling, you don't need to surprise people, just have things fall into place at the right time that you still get a thrill from the way it's pulled off. Lastly, I loved the way this story played with foreshadowing. The title and the little blurbs at the start all suddenly made sense at the end of the third chapter when the witches realized their names had been stolen. It really was such an moment for me, as the plot thickened and we learned there was more than it had first appeared. Glad I found this, was a really fun read tonight! ^_^
