WARNING: SPOILERS TO FOLLOW!If you haven't read the Wrighton: Strange Memory RP through at least chapter 6, you will encounter major character spoilers in this thread. If you haven't read through at least chapter 4, you will also encounter major plot spoilers. Continue at your own peril. This is a thread for all the profiles for the characters' alien ancestors. Anyone who has already posted planning, backstories, art, etc. on the OOC thread is encouraged to repost it here, and any new information can be put in this thread as well! Like the character roster in the OOC thread, information about different ancestors will be compiled in this post. Things like character profiles, species information/history, and character relationships can all be included. PCs and NPCs are both welcome. We'd also like to encourage worldbuilding for the ship itself - its design, different locations onboard, how it functions beyond what's already been elaborated on in-story. The one guideline, similar to what we've said before, is: make it the sort of spaceship you would want to be on. Lastly, here are some prompts to help flesh out the ancestors and their relationships with their modern-day descendant counterparts. These aren't mandatory; you can work on as many or as few of them as you want. - Your character has a story, a song, or a poem that they feel like they've always known. It was a favorite of their ancestor's long ago, and slipped through the memory block. Your character never knew it until now, but this was a connection between them and their ancestor that they've had all of their life. What is the story/song/poem? Does it have any special significance for your character? - Your character has a recurring dream or a persistent image that sticks in their mind that they clearly never saw themselves. It was a memory from their ancestor. What is the dream/image? - Your character has a small object or trinket. They don't know how they got it, it just seems like it's always been there. Sure enough, it was something important for their ancestor. What is it, what does it look like, and why is it important? - And for all of these prompts, how does your character react to learning these things came from their ancestor? If anyone wants to add more such prompts, they're welcome to. Writing and drawing are both encouraged!

Okay I'm going to divide this post into "new information" re: stuff I've only discussed in sidechats with one or two people that is going to be new to the group at large, and "Old information" that I posted previously to the OOC thread. Old information is going to be at the end and shamelessly copy-pasta'd from said thread, for the most part, so feel free to ignore it because it's nothing that wasn't discussed already. Might at least skim the new stuff though! New InformationHolly's Ancestor General Character Bio- Name: A sequence of two short chirps and a long cheep that sounds like “ Sirt-Sirt-Eeeet” Nickname: S’siri (Pronounced “Sss-sear-eee”) Gender: Female (She/her) Race: Chif’rrr (winged deinonychus biped with barn owl colors) Age: Middle-aged (would be mid/late forties for a human) Height: 7 feet (2.13 meters) Wingspan: 12 feet (3.65 meters) Rank/Job: Boatswain Personality: Much like Holly- Friendly, protective, maternal, duty-bound, sardonic sense of humor, philosophical, spiritual, pragmatic, cautious, sees all things living as worthy of respect, extremely devoted to her friends and loved ones. Lacks Holly’s neuroticism and self-confidence issues, but tends towards being more aggressive/assertive and stubborn than the former. Close Friends With: Iki, Qoeln, Oor'cha Friends With: Scip, Amyn, Tarso Casual Office Buddies With: Theo, Bek Doesn't Really Get Along With: First Mate Unknown (Hit me up!): Errybody else, lol. S'siri BackstoryOn their home planet the chif’rrr tended towards being nomadic- this was a cultural model that was brought about by their carnivorous nature. They lived by the seasons, following wild prey animals from north to south and back, and were only able to conceive in the winter so that their chicks would hatch in spring, when food was most plentiful. Most of the earliest myths and legends for their culture have some variant on a story of what disaster befalls them when they overhunt a single area, and this concept of sustainability and balance with the world around them was baked into the very core of their lifestyle. Even after they got the hang of domestication, viable populations of their people could only be maintained through hunting and careful resource management.
Fast-forward to the diaspora that forced them to abandon their home planet. They left on many large ships that each held a couple hundred Chif’rrr, as well as livestock animals for them to eat and fodder for the lifestock. However, without a planet to farm more fodder and wild hunting to sustain them, the chif’rrr in these ships eventually realize that their food supply was just not sustainable for the population on the ships. To make matters even more dire for them, in the climate controlled environment of the ships it never got cold enough to trigger the hormonal change in their bodies of winter- ergo, they had extreme difficulty having any children in space.
Between food shortages and low birthrates, the population dropped dramatically over the intervening century. The large ships eventually had to break up into smaller splinter groups just to keep from having too many predators eating not enough prey. However even these splinters eventually faced shortages if their populations were not strictly managed, leaving the chif’rrr with a dilemma. Either they enforce rigid restrictions on how many children were allowed to be born in a given flock- thus furthering the decline of their population- or they legally mandate further splintering to allow as many of their children to be spread across the universe as they could.
About two-hundred years after this diaspora, on a small splinter ship, is where S’siri was born. Her childhood was largely uneventful, and she trained to become a shuttle pilot in the hopes of one day helping to drive their ship. However, the ship she lived on had a law that every five years all of the recently come of age youths on the ship had their names put into a lottery, and a fifth of them would be forced into exile to prevent overpopulation. S’siri was one of the ones chosen in this lottery, alongside two other youths in her age group- a historian and a bard. Being the only one who could pilot their little ship and also the most mature and protective of them, S’siri became a de-facto leader of their little flock of three. They spent six years fending for themselves as best they could, during which time S’siri developed much of her stern pragmatism and caution.
What happened from this point is wobbly, but I am inclined to think that they fell in with a group of traders and spent some time with them, during which time S’siri’s leadership experience and cool head got her promoted to a lower officership. Here she and her two companions would stay, considering that surviving on their own was extremely harrowing, but they wouldn’t ever really bond with anyone and mostly keep to themselves. Eventually, through what I’m sure were very entertaining misadventures, they fell in with the odd, eccentric group of aliens that would become the founders of the adventure ship’s crew, and for the first time actually felt like they had a real family outside of each other. They grew apart during their years on the ship, but all three of them were still there by the time the beast become an issue, with the historian being responsible for recording the chif’rrr history songs into the ship’s database, and the bard chronicling the ship’s adventures in the chif’rrr fashion of songs and oral stories.
Assorted facts- Chif’rrr live about 150 years, and come of age at 25. At the time of the lottery that saw her exiled, S’siri was about 28, while the other two with her were both barely 25.
This is tentative and I welcome feedback on it, but I’ve floated the idea with a few people (since any references I could find to “boatswain” were vague and mostly referenced stuff only relevant to an actual sailing ship) that Holly’s job was more-or-less equal to a retail middle manager. She was under the higher-ups (Captain/Quartermaster/Various Mates) but over the department managers (Head of Engineering, Head of IT, Head of Security, etc). So what she did, in a nutshell, was keep tabs on all the nitty-gritty minutiae of running the ship on a day to day basis. She kept schedules, made sure people communicated information that needed communicating, solved minor crisis, took care of staffing and discipline- basically all the stuff that you cannot do without on a ship this size, but that the captain and other higher ups just wouldn’t have the time for. She was that officer who had an office because you expect an officer to have an office, but you would never look for her in her office because she was wildly unlikely to not be running around somewhere else on the ship. I’ve also played with the idea that she was generally stern but fair, easy to work with as long as you were doing what you needed to be doing and given to bringing little snacks and treats with her when she stopped by places, as long as she wasn’t going there to deal with an Issue. But because she was also the Issue person, that meant she got to play bearer of bad news a lot. She was frequently responsible for cashing reality checks when the other officers were like WEEEE ADVENTURE and there was something urgent that needed to be handled and priorities dangit! Old InformationReposted from the OOC thread… Holly’s Ancestor: Ref Art and Basic Species InfoSo I believe I promised I would post a doodle of Holly's alien ancestor at some point? Welp, here you go! S’siri the boatswain Random headcanons about the species; - Their feathers are rounded rather than sharp, making them extremely quiet in flight.
- They are usually crepuscular, IE most active at dusk and dawn. Their eyesight is consequently rather poor in very low or very high lighting, and they get overheated pretty easily. Being sapient they can of course be awake whenever they want to be, it's just best for them health-wise to do what's most natural.
- They are obligate carnivores.
- Their bones are hollow, so they're rather light for their size and pretty fragile in a straight-up fight.
- Their native language consists of a lot of hisses, hoots, chirrups, squawks, and other such birdlike vocalizations. Very rarely they'll also employ roars and screeches, but this is akin to swearing in their culture and is generally percieved as really rude.
- Related to the above, since words in their language are impossible for most species to pronounce, crude onomatopoeias are used in place of names. So the species name is loosely pronounced "Chif'rrr" and translates roughly to "the dawn singers"
- They can speak common languages in spite of their lack of mobile lips through a manipulation of their throat muscles similar to the mimicry of a parrot. It can be a bit uncanny valley to watch them talk and have their jaws not really matching up to the words they're saying.
- The species' hearing is extremely accute- they can hear the heartbeat of another vertibrate from across a reasonably sized room. If not distracted, one of them can map the location, height, and distance of every living thing in a room by sound alone.
- Yes I have put way, way too much thought into this.
Additonal Species infoThe Chif'rrr don't exist anymore, as it felt fitting for a race of dinosaurs to be extinct. And it gave Holly's ancestor a motivation to hang with the crew; zipping around in space aimlessly was what her entire species was doing anyway by that point, might as well have some fun with it. More random headcanons to elaborate on information Akash wouldn't have had access to because of the passage of time and/or conservation of detail. - The reason the Chif'rrr lost their home planet was because their home sun was dying- it was rapidly expanding in size as it neared the end of it's life, heating up their world to the point where it wasn't going to be habitable much longer, and eventually the sun would've engulfed the planet entirely. So they had to abandon ship.
- They were a very old race and had been around (and been space faring) for a long time, so they had the means to support themselves as space-nomads, but lacked the resources to terraform another world to become a new home for them- not to mention the issue of likely candidates usually having already been claimed by more territorial species.
- Although they could hold their own in a fight, generally their pre-losing-the-home-planet space career was given over less to shooty-conquery-ness and more to basically being intergalactic bards. They don't call themselves "the Dawn Singers" for nothin', they had extensive oral histories and history-songs both for their own race and for others who they visited and befriended
that have since been largely lost if they weren't recorded by someone the race visited at some point. - Over time individuals or flocks broke off on their own (much as Holly's ancestor would have upon joining the crew, assuming she wasn't a founder which is also possible, it's not clear how long the ship had been around before the crash). With their population spread so thin over the vastness of space, they could not maintain a viable population to keep their numbers up, and just died out eventually.
- Much like the thylacine, occasionally unconfirmed reports will crop up of someone having seen a ZOMG real living Chif'rrr, but "pics or it didn't happen" being a thing, they're pretty much accepted as extinct.
Saving the Oral Histories!Shinko Do you think Hollycestor or any of the other Chif'rrr on the ship might have recorded their epic songs and oral histories? Learning about other races was kind one of the main reasons for this whole journey in the first place. And they gathered a lot of both stuff and information about the places they traveled; that massive archive was there for a reason. So some people on the crew would probably be really interested in hearing and preserving the Chif'rrr's oral heritage, especially because they were (at that time) an endangered race. Entirely possible! Granted, those histories and songs were spoken/sung in the Chif'rrr language, so you'd probably have to record an auxiliary file with the translations. And as anyone who has dabbled in song dubbing knows, music and singing are highly culturally unique to the language they originated from, so it's hard to preserve meaning in translation. But if they were asked I'm sure any Chif'rrr historians among the crew would've been happy to share their heritage.
Design Notes and DoodlesHave some scribbles I've done at various points of Holly's ancestor. Including design notes- And a random little scene that probably happened sometime while the ship was in it's prime, long before the beast became a problem, ahaha.

Alright, I'll do a profile and try to incorporate as much of the information I have previously posted into the OOC thread into it. Any new stuff I have since headcanoned I will try to post first. Fionn-Ancestor: Personal InfoName: Iki (pronounced i-KEY) Rank: Head of Relations - Responsible for making sure all crew and/or officers get along and resolving any interpersonal conflicts that might occur. Sometimes does diplomacy.
Species: Kvagulaar (pronounced kua-GOO-lar (as in "LARP")) Gender: Female, so she/her pronouns Height: 2 metres/6'6" feet. Age: Human equivalent of early to mid 30s. Appearance: Art herePersonality: A very easygoing and friendly alien, Iki is always keen to make new friends and find out about new species. She is highly outgoing, able to approach complete strangers and strike up a conversation without a problem, which makes her chatty to the nth degree. As per usual with her species, she is very emotional and expressive, but unlike many of them, lacks that aggressive edge, prefering to take out her aggression through physical activity, unless her friends are hurt or in danger. Nobody messes with her friends. Iki is very active, often seen exercising in her spare time, and has the muscle structure to show for it. She is very open to new experiences and adventures, getting antsy and bored very easily if things are slow and repetitive for a while. Her logical intelligence is not the best, but she makes up for it by having very high emotional intelligence, allowing her to read body language easily, learn new languages and communicate with a wide variety of alien races without much issue. Just don't ask her to do equations. Backstory: Born on the kvagulaar homeworld (which I will elaborate on in just a bit), Iki grew up in a relatively normal family for her kind. However, the recent colonisation of another planet in their solar system, a short while before she was born, had triggered an interest in space and exploration, so Iki grew up absorbing all that. She was seen as a little bit strange by her fellow kvagulaar, because she was so easygoing, open and relaxed, but it was dismissed as harmless eccentricity. Not really being able to make up her mind on what she wanted to do, her parents picked a psychology degree for her to study, though as she went on, she found she was not enthused about that. As a young adult, she got her chance to visit the colony as part of her university education, and she loved what she saw there. The colony itself was fairly primitive and uncomfortable when compared to the homeworld, but the idea of going beyond her homeworld, seeing the greater universe at large and meeting new, exciting races who had so much to share excited her a lot. So of course, when the ship came to her world, she applied to join the crew the first chance she got. Human form: When she turned human, she became a lot more subdued due to the trauma that she endured before the mindprog took effect and because human psyches cannot process the amount of emotion kvagulaar feel. She would have had brown skin which would display notable freckles. Black, slightly wavy hair and green eyes. She had much bigger feet than the average human and more pronounced vertebrae. She also spoke a lot while waving her arms around, and her family inherited a love of water. Relationships- In general, Iki would get on well with almost everyone. Thanks to her job and her chatty, outgoing nature, she knew most- if not all- of the crew and would consider them all her friends. She could be quite protective of them too.
- Her close friends with have included S'siri and Loorea, the latter being her gym buddy. She also liked Amyn a lot, since they accompanied her on diplomatic missions and they could also be massive nerds. Same with Theo; they were huge nerds together, and Iki helped Theo out when it came to teaching the latter to avoid social faux pas. Though she has no clue about mechanics, she still had a good relationship with Qoeln, respecting them a lot for all they had gone through and occassionally helping them with PTSD issues. She also loved exchanging information with them about different cultures, including learning about kesterk. There can be more! Hit me up to discuss it. I'd love to hash this out! =D
- I don't think she actively disliked anybody, since it is against her nature and she would have been a very poor Head of Relations if she could not sort out her own personal issues, but in the last days of the ship, she probably would have lashed out at quite a few people, most notably the First Mate.
- She did have a casual relationship with the Captain. It was non-serious (i.e. probably wouldn't have gone steady or committed) but it was very affectionate and passionate.
Random other stuff: - Has 7/8ths of a psychology degree. She was in her second semester when the ship landed and she abandoned her studies to go chase adventure, yay!
Fionn-Ancestor: Species InfoHome planet: Their home planet is slightly larger than Earth, but unlike the Earth, it is very damp with a thicker atmosphere, making it warm and moist. Think tropical climates, and you pretty much get the idea. It is mainly covered in shallow seas and rainforests, swamps and mangroves in between the two. The coasts are where the bulk of kvagulaar live, since that is the most suitable climate for them. A few live out in the open oceans, and even fewer live in the small, scattered deserts that dot the planet, and they are considered very tough, though because of the difficulty of that life, they were going extinct even while Iki was around. By modern times, those tribes would have been long gone. Species physiology: In general, kvagulaar are similar to Earth amphibians. Translated, their name means "those who dwell in two worlds" and their bodies reflect that. They have a very soft skin which must be kept moist at all times, otherwise they will dehydrate, their thermoregulation will not work and their functions will be severely impared. In the deserts, they have special full-body suits to help them conserve every bit of water they have * but Iki gets away with having a wetsuit on the ship. Their skins are patterned and the pattern varies from individual to individual, though different regions have different types of pattern. Kvagulaar have both lungs and gills, the latter of which are similar to an octopus: they siphon water and run it over their gills, extracting oxygen that way. Like octopuses, their lips conceal a beak, which they use to eat both plant and animal matter, though their diet relies more on the latter. Their hands and feet are webbed, but their feet are very big in order to act like flippers. Their legs are very powerful and muscular, and their swimming ability is enhanced by a large, strong tail. The most notable feature kvagulaar have are their two tentacles growing out from beneath their arms. These tentacles are prehensile and highly mobile, able to used for very delicate operations where their webbed fingers are no good. However, their most important use is communication (see below in "culture") They start off as tadpoles before growing legs in a few years and developing lungs to such an extent where they work. Their tentacles, however, do not grow in until much later, and their fins only come in fully at the end of their equivalent of puberty. - Exclusive to males: Male kvagulaar are smaller and less brightly coloured. They have smaller fins on their backs in comparison to females. Their gill sacs can be inflated so they can sing, which is attractive to their kind. The most notable feature males possess is a pouch on their stomachs in which they can create a protective environment for the eggs and young tadpoles for the first few years of their lives.
- Exclusive to females:
Culture: It is difficult to paint their whole species with one brush in terms of culture, as different regions have their own cultures depending on what part of their planet they come from. The colony and the homeworld during Iki's time was on its way to developing vastly different cultures. The colonists are considered backwoods hicks, while the homeworlders are seen as pampered snobs. So I'll describe the culture Iki was raised in, which is the most common, dominant culture of that world. In general, it leans towards the matriarchal, since males were often needed to look after and rear the children, but it has taken great steps in recent years to achieve a more egalitarian societal structure, though it is not completely equal. Tadpoles are raised in communal nursery pools until their parents can pick them up. The culture is entering a period of relative peace, thanks to better diplomacy, more cooperation between leaders and greater attempts at understanding, as well as harsh penalties for governments which practice disproportionate retribution or go to war without good reason. Wars were a big problem in the past because of the kvagulaar's natural tendency towards being emotional combined with their natural aggression. However, after an enormous war that devastated their kind and their world, birthing unspeakable atrocities and terrifying weapons, the governments all agreed to get together in order to make sure such a thing never happened again. That was around the time Iki's grandparents' were teens. Their spoken language consists of croaks, chirps, whistles, groans and screams (think of sounds frogs make, basically) as well as clicks from their octopus beaks. Because of their very strong emotions, however, they literally cannot express them with words. Instead, they have developed a complex sign language utilising their tentacles to express their train of thought. They have signs for basic emotions such as happy, sad, angry, etc. but also modifiers and grammatical rules which can change the meaning of an entire signed sentence. This is designed to help say not just what they are feeling, but the reasons they feel it, what they hope might happen to alleviate or accentuate this emotion and to ask the other indivdual in the conversation to do things to help their emotions, among other things. By the time they are adults, they have to learn this language as well as to do it automatically without thinking, as it is supposed to express a train of thought. Children practice it, aided by their parents and their peers. When it is ingrained, however, it becomes automatically done without thinking, and it is nearly impossible for a kvagulaar to lie about feelings. This is especially true because their tentacle language is used in addition to body language, so anybody focusing on lying would let their body languge expose them. To express emotions using words is considered, at best, childish, and at worst, vulgar and insincere. The kvagulaar call their two languages "the language of the head" and "the language of the heart." There are individuals who cannot make the full range of tentacle signs, either due to defects in their tentacles or a mental disorder which renders them unable to read tentacle signs or body language. Such individuals are pitied in their society. Forcibly cutting off an individual's tentacles is considered a monstrous crime, though it was used as a form of torture in the past, especially because they have thousands of nerve endings within them, making it easily the most senstive part of their body. Kvagulaar can touch and taste with their tentacles, able to identify the most minute of sensations. Because of this, touching somebody's tentacles without their permission is considered a taboo, and touching somebody voluntarily with your tentacles is a very intimate gesture. Their cities are mainly build between land and water (think Venice but with actual underwater structures and spaces beneath the water too). Kvagulaar swim a lot in their daily life, so they prefer clothing that they can easily swim in, if they wear clothes at all. Iki is happy to wear the wetsuit and equally happy to not (though she wears it for the sake of the rest of the crew, and to keep herself hydrated) but she does not like things that can get caught or slow down her swimming. She also hates metallic things because they irritate her skin. Soft bracelets/anklets and swim skirts and cool though, and she does like getting those as gifts. The kvagulaar can also be a proud species, being proud of who they are and their history, no matter what anybody says. Iki, for all her openness and love, also carries that, being exceptionaly proud and happy to be the species she is and not wanting to give that up for the world. Current status: In the two thousand, three hundred years since Iki's death, the Kvagulaar have expanded beyond their solar system. While previously they preferred to stay away from other races because "dem foreigners do not understand us", in modern times, they have become a lot more expansionist and militaristic in order to protect their territory. Warriors have the tentacle language trained out of them while on the battlefield in order to be able to wield more weapons. Their home planet is also suffering severely from overpopulation and climate change so that makes the need for a more militant culture to win more territory even more dire. One thing is for sure: Iki would have been seen as an outcast in that society for wanting to explore and make friends. * I have read Dune, why do you ask?

This is going to start out rather paltry in comparison to the other profiles. XD I will update this as I figure things out. Velia's Alien Ancestor:Name: Renori Rank Chief Science Officer Species: Tesarian Gender Female Artwork: #1, #2, #3* She was a bit of a hoarder, and has collected souvenirs from just about every world they've visited. Alien plants, rocks, crystals, metals, artifacts, animal bones, tourist merch, etc. Her personal quarters were practically overflowing with these "treasures". * Started up the greenhouse as a personal project/hobby. Gotta put all of those alien plants somewhere, I suppose. * Her reason for joining the crew on their journey was... Well, the unlimited possibilities of the onmiverse were just so hard to pass up for someone who valued both knowledge and material things. New worlds to see, treasure to be found, endless new things to learn! --- Other notes: So as most were aware, I was absolutely stuckeroo on the alien ancestor business. Just totally unable to feel connected to the past!ship, or the ancient alien that was supposed to be connected to my character. I pretty much gave up. But then, one casual afternoon I relaxed with a cup of hot chocolate and the soundtrack to the My Little Pony Movie, which I hadn't yet listened to. Well, I guess the combination of chocolate and Off to See the World formed some kind of INSPIRE BEAM, because that's when the lightbulb of inspiration finally switched on. XD I like to think of that song as a sort of unofficial theme song now, as it will always remind me of Wrighton every time I hear it. XD

Name: Amyn Pronunciation: Ahm-in Rank: Head of Security Pronouns: they/them Species: (TBD) Appearance: Similar to a mantis shrimp, but with the upper part of the body longer and more upright. Antennae, eyes with wide vision; not quite on stalks but not quite in-set either. A shell that spans at the very least all across their back, and many, many limbs, of varying strength depending on what's needed. (Also all TBD) The ship's logo is tattooed onto their shell. They do have facial expressions, but they're very simple. So most of their expressions come from how their antennae react. Personality: Like a mature Alexis. Enthusiastic, excitable, and curious, but with more personal autonomy. Ambitious. Very concerned with the safety of their crew and ensures their well-being, but often pushes them to crew to do more than they may be ready for; always by accident, they're just very eager. They will feel very guilty if they realize or think they've done something to harm a crewmember. They may lose themselves in their work or where they are if they're stressed, much like how Alexis will frolic to some place where she can clear her mind like the sea when she's stressed or upset about something. Relationships: Largely undecided/tentative. It will only be decided through interactions or via sidechat discussion. Talk to me if you're interested! Friends:- Iki - They're kinda huge nerds together. They both have an eagerness and excitement that they like to bounce off of each other, and are at least to the point where they playfully tease each other. At work, Amyn may go with them as part of security detail for missions that require the Head of Relations to make contact, so they may end up on a few missions together where they may have good opportunity for group exploration and interactions.
- S'siri - At work, S'siri sometimes has to remind Amyn to not push the crew so much. Amyn respects her efforts and her words, and they consider each other friends.
Neutral:- Jasna - They mostly have a work relationship going, but Amyn respects Jasna's often differing opinion, and respects her ability to do her job well. They often conflict, so they often learn a lot more about each other, and they can often hash out their disputes. They only really start to lash out at each other towards the end, when Jasna starts partially blaming Amyn for their part in the Beast incident. They were never really friends, but they were never really enemies either.
Ones they dislike:Unsorted information: (Amyn may not think well of the First Mate for lashing out as they did, but they handled that as someone on the job, not necessarily a friend trying to reach out. I hesitate to put them under any relationship section because I don't know how they interact otherwise and I don't want to judge their entire relationship by one bad moment towards the end. June, if you want to hash that out, contact me.) Their job was primarily to ensure the safety of the crew, both in general and when they're out on expeditions. (They may accompany expeditions, both to see what's out there and to ensure that the landing party goes through all the proper safety procedures. Amyn may or may not switch with another prominent security crewmember on this, depending on where they're needed more. The Head of Security doesn't do everything; they also have the job of delegating tasks to security crew. But they're able to pick up the slack when needed. Usually they can parcel the work out, but the incident with the Beast pushed them to their limit. Amyn has the strengths of being able to delegate work and being able to balance when one should take care to be safe and when a moment is not the time to be overly cautious. They also fully embraced the crew's vision of seeing all the wonders in the universe, and exploring as much as they safely can. However, Amyn is a bit overeager, and while they do take full security precautions, they may push the crew on to explore and prepare for more and more with little pause. Other members of the crew may, at times, need to check them on that, and remind them that taking breaks for the crew is also important to their well-being. Amyn never intentionally means to push anyone to their limits. Sometimes they feel pushing on is necessary, sometimes they realize that they're just being overeager. But they always apologize. They joined the crew some time after it had first formed. The ship landed on their planet and the crew found them wandering the land near the sea, exploring the area but constantly hiding from predators. Finding safety in numbers, once they trusted the crew, they joined their expedition, advising them along the way, covering far more area than they could've alone while keeping them out of dangers they would otherwise not be privvy to. They found out more about the crew and the crew found out more about their species and their planet. Finding a cameraderie with the crew and not having much to return to, Amyn eagerly offered to join. They started at a lower rank, of course, but gradually worked up to the rank of Head of Security. Questions:((The unanswered ones will be slotted into the spoiler box for space.)) - Your character has a recurring dream or a persistent image that sticks in their mind that they clearly never saw themselves. It was a memory from their ancestor. What is the dream/image?They remember exploring a new place for the first time. A place that's clearly alien, and quickly changes, and they have to adapt to each one before they can continue, exploring all the sights, the sounds, the feelings. They seem to have antennae for some reason, to pick up the touch and smell of the place. There are little setbacks, but nothing untowards happens, and soon, they realize it's time to go back. Back to where? Alexis never finds out, for that's when she wakes up. - And for all of these prompts, how does your character react to learning these things came from their ancestor?Alexis is confused; she always figured it was a dream. It was a weird repeating dream, but it was always one she enjoyed. It inspires her to go on adventures and trips, and see as much as possible, for there's so much wonder to be had. She often thinks of that dream to remind her of all the possibilities she could find. To think a place like that is real... Now she wants to visit it!
- Your character has a small object or trinket. They don't know how they got it, it just seems like it's always been there. Sure enough, it was something important for their ancestor. What is it, what does it look like, and why is it important?

Jon's Ancestor General Character Bio- Name: None. His species does not have names. Nickname: Artin, Arty Gender: Male (He/him) Race: Artenskiad (Like a wolf crossed with a lion, kind of. And about that tall.) Age: Joined the crew in his mid-teens, would've been late mid-late twenties by the time of the crash. Rank/Job: Security personele Personality: Like Jon, but more naive and easily impressed given the nature of his background (detailed in the quote below). Snarky, prickly, irritable, but a teddy bear once you get past his defenses and actually pretty good with kids. Has a hot temper when crossed, and tends to approach most problems with an occam's razor approach. Friends With: Jasna, Iki Professionally Neutral With: Amyn Doesn't Get Along With: Probably a lot of people Never Met: S'siri Unknown (Hit me up!): Errybody else. Jon’s Ancestor: Ref Art and Species InfoSo for all two of you who were curious, since it's now become relevant in my most recent post... I did a doodle of what I imagine Jon's alien ancestor looked like- because I don't headcanon he got a mind from the same species as Holly, nor do I imagine their past incarnations were at all acquainted. The relationship they have in the present is unique to the present. That said, who and what was Jon's alien self? Well, it looked a little something like this. Info about the species, and this individual in particular. - They originate from a frozen tundra planet, one that is very far from it's native star in orbit. Hence the thick fur for insulation.
- The species is usually pure white shading to very pale blue or silver. Yanno, for camouflage in the snow. So why is Jon's ancestor black? Melanism.
- The species has no eyes, however, and consequently no sense of sight or concept of color. They perceive their world mostly through a sonar sense similar to echolocation.
- At the time past!Jon was alive, the species was rather primitive still; tribal. So not understanding that Jon's coat was a different color, they only knew that for some inexplicable reason he seemed to attract predators like a beacon. He was labeled bad luck, ostracized as a pup, and ultimately given in tribute to a rival tribe during a war to get the liability out of their hair.
- He stowed away on the ship as an adolescent to escape his life on his home planet. Lead to a brief kerfluffle when he was initially discovered.
- The species natively has no spoken language, instead communicating with telepathy using the same organ they use for their sonar. Bear in mind they cannot read thoughts, only project them. So Jon would've had to learn the ship's language from scratch.
- Their tail is prehensile.
- They're smaller than this image would have you think. Only stand waist-high on a human at the shoulder. They just look big because they're built like a brick house and covered in looots of hair, lol.
- Jon's species probably does still exist, but I doubt they'd be spacefaring after only a little over two-thousand years. So probably some sort of greco-roman level of civilization at this point mebbe.

Stuff will be added/tweaked as time goes on, I'm sure~ Harper's Ancestor ProfileName - Qoeln Species - Kesterk Gray Pronouns - tu-alk/they [see "Kesterk Pronouns" below] Age - Adult, probably around mid to late-thirties (or gray equivalent to humans) Rank - Head of Engineering Duties - Maintaining engines and ship mechanical systems, coordinating with Head of IT on computer-controlled systems, managing ship engineers and mechanics, advising and managing engineering and mechanical crises. History - Early history is a little loose and subject to change, but for now: Born on a kesterk ship, learned engineering, was pretty happy. The ship was found and attacked by kytreg; Qoeln made it out on an escape pod, but not without getting most of a frill blaster'd off. Something something medical attention that left a nub of their top right frill and a nice blaster scar on their head something something joined the main crew of this ship that needs a name something something head of engineering??? Probably this part will need to be worked out with other crew members \ o / Crew Relations- S'siri - Friend and racing game buddies; were close friends and helped each other out where they could, doing stuff like reminding each other to eat food during their busy, hectic days. - Iki - Friend and culture-nerding buddies. While Iki isn't as engineering-minded as Qoeln, and Qoeln isn't as boistrous as Iki, the two do exchange culture notes. Qoeln's PTSD and the genocidal violence of the kytreg are somewhat sobering to Iki's space!optimism - Captain - Qoeln's boss, but they have a pretty good relationship. Cap keeps an eye out for things that might trigger Qoeln's PTSD, or when they're getting too trapped in their work and forget delegating is a thing - Theo - Qoeln helps out with Theo's technical bits, and the two swap culture trivia during these sessions. Notes- Snarky - Missing top right frill, pale scaring on their head from the same blaster fire - Bigger and more muscular than Akash or Harper. Machine parts be heavy, yo. - Has PTSD; probably does space!therapy and has space!anti-anxiety meds for when it gets really bad, but still sometimes has trouble sleeping, and gunfights can still trigger flashbacks. - Not always the best at delegating and sometimes takes too much work onto themselves Appearance Gray Alien (Koeyhan) InformationKesterk and KytregKesterk and Kytreg are members of the same spcies, the Koeyhan, known to humans as Gray Aliens. Long ago, a war split their planet into two factions, which have been isolated from one another so long that they're beginning to evolve apart from one another. Kytreg grays are the gray aliens humans are most familiar with - they abduct and study humans (and likely other species), and have a general goal of being the most powerful species through strength and intelligence. They have something of a warrior culture that includes a tradition of removing their frills when they come of age, both proving their strength and commitment, and removing what they see as a weakness (as frills give away emotions). Kesterk grays, despised by their counterparts, tend to be friendlier and more peaceful, though of course, there are always rogues among them. Kesterk generally find great value in cooperation, exploration, and compromise; it's not unusual for them to wind up with strangely-populated crews purely because of their curiosity. The kytreg see the kesterk as weak, inferior versions of themselves who hold the race as a whole back; quite simply, the kytreg want the kesterk eliminated, and many will go out of their way if it means they might get to kill any kesterk. Generally the kesterk are not as outgoingly violent toward the kytreg, but they have understandably deep enimity toward them, one that stretches back thousands of years. Kesterk PronounsKesterk pronouns are determined not by gender, but by an individual's origin and age, assembled into a two-part pronoun with a "prefix" and a "suffix". There used to be a very wide range of prefixes, each associated with a particular kesterk culture; now, they're much fewer. When war with the kytreg made living on their home planet dangerous (both due to persecution and weapons of war damaging the planet to the point it was beginning to be uninhabitable for them), four arc-ships escaped with crews of kesterk. A few generations later, the cultures had melded to the point where most kesterk felt the arc itself should be considered their cultural origin. Today there are six major prefixes - one for each arc-ship; one for those who escaped the planet through other means, didn't escape at all, or simply don't identify with any one of the ships; and one that indicates origin from multiple ships. There are usually only four possible suffixes - infant, child, adult, and elder - though some pockets of kesterk use more. Stuff from the OOC ThreadI've been fighting with digital painting for like a week to try and get a colored alien!Akash but it's not been cooperating, so while we're doing image/headcanon alien dumping, some sketches ('cause I don't have much in the way of headcanons this time around *shrug* ) Proper Akash aka the jerkface who won't let me color him properly. What are hands? We just don't know. Kesterk on the left, Kytreg on the right. ...Okay I have a headcanon for Kytreg side of things; I was gonna have Harper at some point mention "this weird tradition thing where they wear suits that make it look like they're naked when they're doing abductions??? I don't know it's weird" but the opportunity didn't really come up. This detail only exists because abduction stories commonly have the grays not wearing clothes. spaceship technology > pants, I guess? Also I drew a past!Kytreg gun because Kyn asked what it looked like and I went "uhhhhhh" I imagine the newer ones have superseded the need for the metal arm doohickeys branching out around the...uh, muzzle, I guess? EDIT: Oops just kidding I do have gray alien headcanons. I've been holding onto them in case they had a chance to be discussed in the RP but with climax coming up... XD - Harper's hair and Akash's scarves are colorful at the tips for a reason - Kesterk feel a little anxious when they can't see their frills out of the corner of their eye. The dyed hair and scarves give them a reassuring "black-thing-with-a colored-tip" lingering at the edge of their vision. (The Kytreg don't have this problem, at least not often and if it does occur, it would be seen as a disorder; it developed prevalently in the Kesterk after the two groups split)
- As for the Kytreg and frills; Kytreg have them removed at adolescence. Sort of makes it seem like a choice, but, being surrounded by isolationist space racists makes it a less-than-informed one XD It's seen as shedding weakness, since the frills give away emotions and could potentially be grabbed by species with the right appendages. There's a dash of "I'm stronger than pain", too, since frill-removal is, not surprisingly, kinda painful even after the procedure is done =D
- Grey alien frills are actually really slippery and difficult to get a grip on.
- I at least implied this already but frill color-changing reacts to emotions. The more intense the emotion, the faster the colors shift. There might also be coordination between which colors show and the emotion, but I forget if I specified colors for Harper so this might not be official canon. (At one point Shinko also brought up the adorable idea of baby grey aliens finding their parents' frill colors shifts comforting, and of baby Harper maybe having a special color-changing mobile).
Radha's Ancestor ProfileName - ?? Species - Pronouns - ?? Age - Adult Rank - Technician Duties - Fixin' stuff History - Crew Relations- Qoeln - Boss up the chain - Appearance- Some sort of creature with scales and claws that can climb walls. Six-fingered hands. Notes-

Alien RaceSpecies: Ediba (Plural: Edibas) (Moth-like creatures that stand on two feet and often have their wings draped over their shoulders.) Planet: Edibun (Woo, I got names for them. \o/) General Planet and Alien Race InfoEdibun is a big planet with a thin atmosphere and heavy gravity. These two things tend not to mix well with flying creatures, but the local Edibas have adapted to live on there. A good part of Edibun is barren wasteland. These wastelands often have valuable materials for the Edibas such as fuel. The civilizations are similar to urban areas on Earth. Edibas communicate mostly through coos, hums, and chirps (usually the chirps are for proper nouns, such as names of Edibas). However, they can also communicate using infrasound that can be detected using their antennae. Certain Edibas can pick up certain frequencies of infrasound and some frequencies are used more than others. Edibas are a closed off species. While they are very welcoming within their own planet, they don't take kindly to visitors. Most of the time, they ignore outsiders. If they do interact with anyone visiting, it's often very harsh. There have also been instances of them attacking outsiders. It's very rare to see an Ediba being willingly interact in a kind manner with an outsider. Not a lot of Edibas know why it's like this. The only ones who really seem to know the reason are those in the government seats and they're not talking. Makes you wonder if there's some shady business going on up there. The AliensAni Hemsworth's AliencestorName: Kiuna (key-OOH-na) Age: Around 32 human years Gender: Female (she/her) Height: 2 feet / 61 centimeters Wingspan: 30 inches / 76.2 centimeters Position: Head Archivist Notes About Kiuna-Kiuna has a really good memory. As the head archivist, this is helpful for remembering things such as dates and where that one book went seriously, it's never in the same place as it's supposed to be, it's like it has legs. Either that or she just read over everything enough to have it committed to memory. Whatever it is, Kiuna's not questioning it, it makes things easier for her. Anyway, she has a lot of the crew's history memorized. (Ani has a lot of remembering to do. XD) -Both of Kiuna's wings are supposed to be green, but her right one is gray due to a mutation from when she was born. It's a rare mutation. There are very few Edibas who have this mutation and Kiuna's the only one who had it in her city and those surrounding it. -Don't let that cute face fool you. Kiuna has a bit of a temper and can get very rude, loud, and snappy. She has a sharp wit and will call anyone out if they wrong her in any way, shape, or form. She also can get very mischievous. -Aside from all of that, Kiuna is usually very sweet and sociable. She's very serious when it comes to work and very talkative when she's not. Juuust don't get on her bad side. ;D Relationships Pet: Achino Friends with: Stenin Neutral with: (undecided) Doesn't get along with: (undecided) (Yeah, very undecided with relationships at the moment. XD Feel free to message me if you want to discuss. ^^) Claire Kagami's AliencestorName: Stenin Age: Around 32 human years (Stenin and Kiuna were born on the same day.) Gender: Female (she/her) Height: 1 foot / 30.5 centimeters Wingspan: 10 inches / 25.4 centimeters Position: Assistant Archivist (unofficial) Notes on Stenin-Stenin is a lot like Claire. Friendly, bubbly, hyper, all that fun stuff. -Stenin doesn't have a sense of personal space. She's very curious and will often look over other aliens' shoulders to see what they're up to. It gets on Kiuna's nerves sometimes. -She always wants to make people smile. She's willing to talk to anybody if they need to and will tell jokes and play games in order to lift spirits. Stenin might have hosted game nights occasionally? If she could, she would. She might have tried to get it started, at least. -Stenin's position as an assistant archivist isn't official. Nobody told her to help Kiuna out with the archives. However, Stenin just randomly started helping Kiuna out one day. Kiuna tried shooing her away in the past, but Stenin's very persistent. Kiuna just lets her help now. Stenin comes in handy sometimes. RelationshipsFriends with: Kiuna, Achino Neutral with: (undecided) Doesn't get along with: (undecided) Squip's Aliencestor (Yes, even the cat is getting one.) Name: Achino (AK-in-o) Age: Unknown (Assumed to be between 1 and 2 human years) Gender: Male (he / him) Height: 5 inches / 12.7 centimeters at shoulder Wingspan: 7 inches / 17.8 centimeters Position: None Notes about Achino:-Achino is a Hyuumi (HYOO-mi), which is the Ediban equivalent to a cat. Hyuumi act a lot like cats as well. They are popular pets on Edibun. -Achino belongs to Kiuna and is very loyal to her and Stenin. The two found him on the streets when he was little and sick and took him in. Kiuna kept him after he was nursed back to help and they had been near inseparable since then. -He is apprehensive of those who are a lot bigger than him (which is a lot of aliens, since he is very small). After getting to know the aliens, he is up for cuddles. RelationshipsOwner: Kiuna Friends with: Stenin Neutral with: (undecided) Doesn't get along with: (undecided) ArtsDrawing of Kiuna, Stenin, and Achino all together.(From left to right: Stenin, Kiuna, Achino) Picture of Kiuna (and Stenin photobombing).Animated gif of how Edibas open their wings.

Liz's Ancestor Profile Name: Nickname: Theo Gender: Female (she/her) Species: None, artificially created (see Backstory) Age: Probably somewhere near her thirties by human standards Rank: Quartermaster Duties: A spokesperson for the crew to the upper officers. When making decisions that affect the whole ship, she's the one that argues from the perspective of what the crewmembers as a whole may want, or what they most need. She has veto power over the captain for when she feels it appropriate to exercise. (at least, this is sort of what I've come to headcanon. Other things may be changed/added, goderators please fish slap me if this is inaccurate x3) Relationships: -Nemo/Nemmy ( Birdy )- The two had started a romantic relationship soon before the ship's crash, and before that, they were longtime best friends -Captain ( Liou )- Close friends, officer duties has them often working together -S'siri ( Shinko )- Something of a work casual relationship, crossing paths via officer duties, but often freely chatting about interests -Everyone else is still open! Appearance Normal Form-How Theo was most commonly seen on the ship and during her duties -This form is a combination of organic and tech parts, most of the tech pieces used to stabilize the atomic structure of this form while storing excess atoms from her combat form. This visible tech would soon become outdated in her lifetime, as artificial two formed beings would move on to be made much more streamlined. -When the tech is properly removed, she will revert back to her combat form. But, much like a turtle's shell, if attempted to be forcibly removed, it will cause great damage to her. -The stripes on her torso and legs are actually stitches, and wherever there is a different coloration on her skin, that usually indicates where she was pieced together. -Theo can see, but her sight is still limited. Most colors have a very unsaturated look for her, and she's rather near sighted. Sight is never the first sense that she relies on. -Height: 6'6", 2m Combat Form-This is basically just Mary's appearance, the biggest difference being that Theo kept the same mind when switching between forms. She's always the same person. -The main reasons Theo would switch to combat form are: 1) as the name would suggest, when fighting was required, 2) usually when she went to bed or needed rest. -This is Theo's original form, and the tech that creates her normal form can only run for so long at once. Staying in normal form for too long can exhaust either the tech or herself, so Theo needs to revert back to recharge. Easiest way to do this is at night, when she's asleep. However, depending on the days, she could also be seen casually walking around in this form. ReferencesHeight Scale: Theo Transforming: Personality -Theo is very interested in other people and societies, and is an avid listener when meeting new people or learning new things about others. When she's the one talking, though, she can often make little social flubs, still always learning the subtle nuances of socializing when probably over a hundred cultures clash at once. -She usually speaks with more simplistic words, so she's often blunt or can come across as dry/biting. -She fangirls over a number of things, namely new locations and the people within them (she will drag everyone else around like that eager tourist to see every sight there is on a new planet), reading and writing, and music. -She can be very playful, but on the flip side, she can also be very assertive and stern. -Her free time is often spent reading or writing, the latter often when she journals about new discoveries the crew has made. -She often plays music for herself, and people nearby may hear it blasting in the distance. -She's also a fan of loud, bright colors, as they're the closest she comes to seeing vibrancy
BackstoryA large portion of the universe can give thanks for its advanced tech and discoveries to a very small, very isolated community. An elite society, determined so by their great wealth in scientific knowledge, Living mostly apart from other worlds and, at many times, each other, speech has all but become inferior, a dead art to the community. Writing, however, is paramount. They referred to themselves as the . They chose to live on their own planet, having selected it for its abundance in resources relevant to their work, and newly selected members always move and set up home there, living there the duration of their lives. Their work was often independent, and the primary form of communication between them was letters. Findings, invites, the occasional(?) friendly(??) quips between rivals, and each member always signed off with their signature, a personal pictograph. Except for Milton. No one asked. No one really cared. Findings were also sent back to the 's home planet, so as to give purpose behind their work, and their people would do with the information as they wished, either use it or spread it. This elite society thus all came from a common species. But, again, except for Milton. They let him in anyway, because… The official papers giving reason for his admission must have gotten lost somewhere. Hardly any ideas left the planet, though, until they first went through the society’s annual convention of ideas. Their biggest and most anticipated event, this was the time when each member could share with the rest of their associates their newest findings, research, and projects. And, more often than not, it was when they could compete against whoever they were bickering with at the time. The past few conventions, though, lacked the absence of one specific member. It had been a while since had attended. No one knew exactly what they were doing, but they sent out the occasional letter saying they were "working towards greatness" and that the others would "soon see." Then, one convention, they made their grand return, and with them, their magnum opus: . A giant, looming creature with claws and teeth for every limb, sharp senses, and the instinct to protect and fight at the sign of any threat. The eyes had given them some trouble, but they hoped no one would notice that in comparison to everything else. They had created life, and it was the perfect weapon. When the other members saw this creation, they were stunned. Speechless. Horrified. Creating life for weaponry came and went cycles ago! A couple members shook their head when they saw the creation, and another couldn’t help but burst out into laughter. One came up to with the note: wrote on a public board for all to see: In reply: Blend in? looked to their creation. As proud as they were of it, there wasn't any possible way it would fit into any crowds that they knew of. Such a shame. They were practically laughed out of that convention. Not before they got the worst insult to injury, though, when Milton came over with his own jeering. “Extravagant,” he called it. A waste of so many cycles. Perhaps instead of skipping all those conventions for their masterpiece, they should’ve kept up on the trends else they shoot themself in the foot. His words meant little to them, and they were headed for the door again when his next statement caught their ears. would never function in society, not like that. They had thought so, too, but hearing it from Milton, they couldn’t help themself… It must’ve been pride, or rivalry, or likely contempt for Milton because seriously who likes that guy anyway?? But they did it. A bet. A bet that they could turn into a creature fit for society, that wouldn’t turn heads as some weaponized lab experiment. Milton took it of course, likely in jest, but left that cycle’s convention more serious than ever. Already taking notes in their head, they figured it would just take a little atom rearrangement. Only problem was that the recomposition of a creature’s atomic structure was a science barely even touched upon. Hmm. This might take a little work. A handful of cycles worth of work, it turned out. Longer than it took for ’s original form, but they made sure to actually send a scout to the conventions this time to keep up on any relevant developments. It was difficult work, but after persisting, they found that their efforts may pay off. What they needed most, they discovered, was deeper experimentation into the most vital element in their project. The element the society discovered was perfect for synthesizing life. It glowed with vibrant colors just beneath the the soil’s surface, and a philosopher or poet might relate this to the purpose of life or something else. They were just glad it was abundant and easy to find. They set to work as soon as they could, giving the new project the working title . With new, thorough research into this element, soon stepped back to face the end result of their work. It wasn’t perfect. It was practically half tech with wires hanging everywhere and its limbs covered in atom storage chambers, and obvious stitching spread all across its body. But it worked. It lived. *** At the next convention with their new creation, they went straight to Milton to ask for his payment. He refused at first, claiming that couldn’t be , they had only fabricated a brand new creature that looked similar to the original. They didn’t say anything, but only drew in a specific symbol on the clasping its hair. The clasps came undone, its limb covers opened up, and the that filled their body was given free range to as the stored atoms were unleashed. stood before them all again. They explained how they did it, that they had created a device to rearrange atoms and store excess to give one individual multiple forms. It could switch between its societal and combat forms whenever it pleased, all it had to do was put in the right pass code on its tech. They revelled in Milton’s astonishment the most, finally get their compensation, but the other society members’ reactions weren’t any less satisfactory. This was revolutionary. Artificially creating a two-formed being had never been accomplished before. They needed to jump onto this idea before could get all the credit. On the board for their display space, they let their creation write down the project title. Since the purpose was to create an individual, they let the creation choose a new name so as to be fitting. She wrote . Or, as it would be pronounced by the locals on their home planet when she visited them, “Theo.” ***
She and her creator spent a number of cycles together after that, her being taught all the written languages they knew, plus speech, although those lessons were much more limited. She helped them with their other projects, learning pieces of their science as she went, and as she developed more mentally, they soon started to teach her the basics of society. One day, she would live among it, so she would need to know how to behave in order to blend in.
This day came much sooner than planned, and her time with her creator cut short. Turns out Milton had contacted his own home planet to tell them about his scientific achievements, but when he said “creating life” all they heard was “playing god.” Of course.
And then just like a disgruntled parent, his home world sent out complaints, and soon the authorities stepped in and put a stop to all the shenanigans on the society's planet. darn it, Milton.
Strict regulations were set in place for the members' studies, and each artificial life was taken from its creator.
She managed to have one final conversation with hers before their permanent separation. She asked:
They answered:
They then asked her, "Do you know who you are?"
She nodded, and answered, "Theo."

I'm gonna do separate posts for everyone, although they probably won't be as long because I got a little carried away here.
Atif-ancestor Profile! Name: Tarso Species: Visten Pronouns: He/him or they/them (was not particular) Age:Young adult
Rank: Chief Medical Officer Duties: Not really thought too much about this yet, likely pretty much basic head-doctorly duties and Fussing Over People. Headcanon that he helped work out the logistics of the mindprog plan to try and make it as safe as possible, but again, any of this can easily be changed.
History: When the ship made a(n early?) stop on the visteri home planet, it was near Tarso's settlement. Most of the townsfolk were fairly curious but also lost interest pretty quickly, seeing the folk onboard as something like an amusing circus. But in the grand tradition of circuses, there are often a few mesmerized. Tarso was incredibly fascinated by the newcomers, and when Tarso spoke with them and learned about all the amazing places they went- well, they were hooked. In typical visten fashion they offered some pretty trinkets to the people they spoke most to as a token of friendship, only to be pretty much overjoyed to find, shortly before the ship left, that they'd assumed Tarso was coming along anyway. At this point he had been in service training for some time (the visteri equivalent of medic crossed with worker bees; it's kind of a broad thing) and was quite happy to learn (and help) more once he came aboard.
On the ship, Tarso used to be very prone to overworking and overexertion until he collapsed and some of his friends basically staged an intervention, at which point he learned to be more responsible and rest more. A little.
Relationships: -S'siri: Mom friend buddies -Theo: Probably ran into each other in the park a bunch! None really thought out? I'm 100% open to brainstorming though, it's fun. =D I do know they were sort of protective of the other medstaff, especially the ones they worked with most often.
Personality/trivia: -Very curious and energetic, although he mellowed out some over time -A mom friend, prone to telling people to go to bed already or be careful. -Very often tired. This isn't normally a personality trait but with Tarso it 100% is. -Thinks work is Serious Business and can be a bit of a wet blanket at times -That said, is overall a friendly person and focused a lot on patients' morale, as he believed it to be one of the most important things to recovery. -Young Tarso was Very Concerned whenever someone would lose a pen or glasses or something small on the ship, and usually made them a new one as soon as they could. This was a large factor in their collapse. Afterward it became a rule that pens and glasses were not a priority to Dr. Tarso.
Bestiary: Visteri
Basics/Physiology Visteri (singular: visten) vary wildly in color, from red to pink to green to yellow, and seemingly completely random. You can tell how healthy someone is by how brightly they’re colored, which is strongly related to how much sunlight they get. (Diet also plays a role.) Unhealthy visteri look “greyed out” and healthy ones are quite vibrant. They are humanoid and, full-grown, range in size from slightly smaller than a typical adult human to about 1.5 times the size of one. Visteri have no legs or feet and get around by hovering off the ground; they cannot fly, but their hovering does allow for some impressive horizontal jumps. (If you’ve played Cave Story, picture the jump physics there and you’ll have a good idea.) Their skin takes in sunlight and processes it somewhat like plants do, which makes up part of their nutrients; beyond that, they are omnivorous with a preference for dry meats and flavourful fruits and vegetables. Visteri have a moderate ability to reshape things around them on a small scale. This is often used to create ornamental objects or change their surroundings (see “cultural”) they have been known to use it to create small snacks or move things from one (nearby) place to another. It’s very short range, can’t affect living things, and pretty tiring (with more complicated changes being more exhausting). (Author's note: Comparing this ability to a somewhat more versatile version of tabletop RPGs' spell Prestidigitation, you would have it exactly right. I promise this was unintentional.)
Environment The visteri's home planet is largely a warm one, with many desert areas, and these areas tend to be the most populated. Visteri prefer temperate areas, although there are a few isolated towns on the planet’s colder regions and even other planets; they’re almost as adaptable as humans, although (as a rule) considerably more stubborn and likely to refuse a place because it's uncomfortable. The only exception is sunlight; you’ll never find a visten underground because no matter their diet, they would still need the sun. There are artificial sun lamps that help to a certain extent, but by the time Tarso left that technology was only beginning to be developed.
Culture Visteri as a rule are a fairly lazy, entitled race, a bit like spoiled children. Clothing varies based on location, but is usually highly decorated. Both intellect/creativity and beauty are highly valued in their culture, and among themselves especially they are incredibly competitive. Prone to “daring” each other to perform creative feats with their ability, this is where the myth of wish-granting came from. There’s no actual *requirement* to accept these challenges, but it is seen as a sign of weakness and most visteri find these challenges entertaining. Even job advancements usually go to those who do the best work in the most creative or ingenious way.
One thing they all do, at some point in their early lives, is create a small object and attach themselves to it. The specifics of doing this are unknown, but a visten who has attached themself to an object is capable of retreating to that object and resting, conscious and immobile and with no signs of their presence but for the object being tinged with the visten’s color. It can only be done once in their lifetime, in childhood, but resting this way is how they sleep. Since a dead visten evaporates soon after dying, it is customary to keep their special object in a safe or important place in their memory. How this works out varies between groups, but the most important visteri usually have theirs displayed in public buildings. (Incidentally, buildings tend to be extremely gaudy and overdecorated because of the competitive culture and the fact that every visten thinks they know what looks nicest.)
Visteri have no real concept of gender. Children are raised by one or both parents and families are fairly important, but their language uses names instead of pronouns. Tarso chose the ones they thought sounded nicest after joining the crew.

(There's not much new here, and I might add more to this later, but for now I thought I should probably at least post something here for organization's sake. xD) Hannah's Ancestor
Name: Bek Original Pronunciation: [fly straight up vertically for five feet; stop wingbeats; freefall for about three feet; resume hover] Species: Rambler Rank: Second Mate / Navigator Pronouns: She/Her Size: ~1.5 feet tall; 3.5 to 5 feet long (depending on how curled her tail is) [insert more stuff here] [feel free to poke me if you want to figure out relationships!] On some level, I sort of feel like Hannah’s ancestor would slot in more neatly into a Futurama sort of environment as a running gag recurring character who mostly appears in the background. xD Like, whenever Fry wakes up in a hospital, he looks over to the bed next to him, and there’s always a giant dragonfly alien with some new terrible and unlikely injury that really ought to be fatal, but she just waves cheerily to Fry when she sees he’s awake. -- Hannah’s ancestor’s design feels kind of alien-wise uncreative to me, but it’s what she insisted upon, so. xD (Dragonflies are really cool and felt sort of right here, and also they have all sorts of fitting symbolism, such as change and changeability (and a bunch of folklore from all around the world that may be less applicable, but it was fascinating to look up. </tangent>)) I haven’t drawn an “official” drawing of her (which I should, because I have no idea what colors she has), but here’s the first more or less finalized design, as she runs away from a jack in the pulpit alien with Hannah, because why not? xP (She wears the ship emblem on her foreleg bracelets (one might possibly be a comm-watch or similar, too).) Have two drawings before I settled the design a little more, just ‘cause I’m happy with them and it took me ages to figure out how to make dragonfly eyes look expressive. >_> (Also, I know that makes her “meeting your eyes” kind of hard to tell, but it’s the spirit of the thing. xD) I need to practice drawing wings from different angles. (Also foreshortening, GAH.) -- I haven’t devised very much of the species’ culture, but I do have a couple things. If they all have as terrible physical defense as Hannah’s ancestor, they must not have many natural predators on their home planet. xD Also, since I suspect parents just leave the eggs somewhere to hatch, the concept of families isn’t quite the same there. They have communities and found families, but maybe not as much of our stereotypical nuclear family. They have a different concept of roots. Even though I suspect Hannah’s ancestor learned to speak the common tongue on the ship, the species doesn’t speak aloud that much and usually mostly uses their vocal cords for long distance calling and alarms and such. Their main native communication is done through movement--similar to how bees dance to convey where nectar is, but much more nuanced and complex. Mostly I just wanted to give even more thematic relevance to traveling and what that means. I was an English/Art double major, themes that tie together just make me happy. ;_; *shot*Sooo, maybe something sort of like this? (Is this the part where I apologize to Bil Keane?)(Also, don’t use this drawing as a guide or something; it was mostly meant to hypothetically illustrate, and “beg” here doesn’t really mean “beg.” xD) (Also also, unplanned thing that delighted me when drawing: Even though the materials and patterns aren’t actually very similar, my sketchy shorthand for her ancestor’s wings kind of matches Hannah’s hat. =D) ...Also, for the reason of their communication, I really want to call this dragonfly-esque species “ramblers” because double meanings and PUNS, guys! =D ...Okay, but that’s probably a decent succinct translation, because their real name would probably mean something along the lines of “those who speak by moving.” ...And it’d probably also be some exasperated tongue-in-cheek from whoever came up with the translation, because oh my gosh, they only asked a yes or no question, why are they flying all over the room for this, GADS. @_@ -- Similar to Hannah, this character threw a name at me and is stubborn about it but I’m hesitant to commit to it because it doesn’t seem to have any deeper meaning. xD Oh well, maybe it doesn’t. She wants her name to be Bek. “The name is Bek. *dramatically removes enormous oversize sunglasses that are basically a hat* Bek the Rambler Bug.”-- Thankfully I mentioned it, so I had to draw it. =DDD Rabbit ♠ (I didn’t draw the debate itself, so they could be watching anything, honestly. Also, Kiuna was so fun to draw! =D I hope I got her size correct?) - Sometimes Rambler Bugs imitate their flight-path language in a smaller form by drawing out paths in midair with a foreleg. This is akin to whispering or mumbling, or can be used if a Rambler is unable to fly the path in the air.

Rosemary's ancestor. Yes she gets one too. The parts of the body with the "sparkle dots" glow. The rest are black. Name: Nuin Gender: Genderless (it) Race: Otherdimensional Sun Dragon Age: Centuries Rank/Job: Science Teacher Personality: Contemplative, eager to please, eager to help, fretful, perfectionist, nurturing, loves kids A tiny creature- about the size of a chameleon- from a parallel universe where stars are actually incubators for billions of minuscule dragon eggs, which hatch from coronal mass ejections of their native star. Their bodies give off a constant soft glow and low ambient warmth. They have no lungs and as such no need to breathe. The feed on radiation by absorbing it through their “wings” which makes them pretty useful to have around if you’ve got any sort of fusion or fission reactor on your ship that you wanna make sure stays in check. As such they tend to get “adopted” into ships in their own universe for this purpose, and are a very common sight amongst crews of other species. Because they are born from stars and do not reproduce by conventional means, their species have no biological sexes.

may I present to you an Lorge Snek Aaaauuugh sorry for rushy crappy art but I wanted to post it while the game was still happening. Image may not be completely accurate. (aargh is that how small it looks) (full view plz? ;_; ) They ended up a lot more buff than planned?? And I debuffed them -hehe- twice but they still wanted to stay buff? OK, nevermind, they need a bulky chest to accommodate their lungs and heart. Ayo's AncestorName: Oor'cha Species: Coangi Gender: none whatsoever Pronouns: they/them Age: 70-ish around the beginning of the trip, in their eighties at the time of the crash. (In human years, they'd be in their late twenties.) Height: 1,50 to 1,60m when they're casually slithering; can stretch up to over 2 metres if they want to see further or stare someone down. Length: ... darn big long snek Rank: Captain Duties: final word on major executive decisions, keeping an official log, keeping up with space!laws, representing the crew in official and legal contexts, keeping up with the various departments of other officers, public figure giving official statements, general mediating, local empath, sharing dreams to transmit as many as possible to the dreamboat's engine. PhysiologyNot particularly strong, though they are muscular enough to make a long, heavy snake body slither around quickly. Their tail smack would be hazardous to smaller and more brittle creatures. When they're in a great hurry, they might sidewind down the corridors. Not very dignified, but efficient. Their skin is not armoured in any way. The scales are barely visible (how very convenient for people who don't like to draw scales!), denser on the belly and sparse on the back. The only function of the scales is to grip surfaces and provide the friction required for slithering. The skin allows for some cutaneous breathing. They are semi-aquatic, but have no gills; their air supply lasts about an hour. The exception is moulting, during which they sleep underwater and get oxygen directly through their skin. Aside from their rather numerous teeth, they have no pointy bits on their body. Even without accounting for empathy, they're quite useless in a physical fight, and need some kind of self defense weapon and light armour when in a potentially dangerous zone. They moult about once a year. It requires them to take a day off and curl up in a tank, not to be disturbed. Their moult is not only shedding skin; it's a process during which their body has a chance to make a few changes mimicking close friends of other species. They can tell that a change will happen if they grow very voracious in the week before the moult, as their metabolism will be through the roof. Tattoo ink gets dissolved/digested by their body in no time. After several unsuccessful tattoos, they got annoyed and the ship's symbol got drawn by their skin's natural pigmentation during a moult instead. They were very pleased to show it off. During their first moult after meeting Iki, they grew two tentacles matching hers. EmpathyThey've had this innate ability for all their life. It allows them to sense sapient beings' emotions within a certain range - in the same room, approximately. They're likelier to sense someone from a distance if they're already attuned to that person's feels. It works like an extra sense, which can be overwhelmed like other senses. They do not directly share people's emotions, unless they choose to or get overwhelmed. They cannot manipulate emotions. They cannot sense specific plans, only general intentions; however, they can make deductions and fill in the gaps by detecting a discrepancy between someone's words and feelings. This sense is particularly useful to communicate with species who not only speak different languages, but also think in different thought patterns. Their deeper emotions are easier to understand. This makes Oor'cha very receptive to people's dreams and heartfelt wishes. Spending time making friends with crewmembers is an important duty to them, as it allowed them to share others' dreams, and thus to send as many as possible into the ship's engine as a single input. PersonalitySimilar to Ayo, minus the relationship trauma and with much more experience of life. Falls in love very fast and easily, with people and places and fleeting moments. Easily impressed, constantly wondering at the world around them. Fascinated by people, who never stop surprising them even after all this time. They look like a tourist discovering a monument for the first time even when they're just slithering into the cafeteria. Friendship is a serious matter for which they get very enthusiastic. Debts and promises are not taken lightly. Very affectionate and lavish in their displays of affection. Has been known to hug someone for the length of an entire meeting. Can be a passionate romantic partner, but not exclusive. Definitely polyamorous. Oor'cha is understanding - it would be hard for them not to be - but able to stay detached and keep a cool head thanks to years of experience as an empath. They know how to set boundaries, can tell when someone is just crying for attention and do not fall for tantrums. They stay alert and are cautious not to let anyone overwork themselves, both for individuals' well-being, but also so as not to hinder the crew as a whole. They have a clear mind, but a very selective memory. They are a terrible learner unless their love for people is involved. They've been known to avoid reading books for years, until someone needed their help for a court case and Oor'cha immediately memorised everything relevant. The best way for them to learn is by listening to someone who is very passionate about a subject. Can be very impulsive and tends to rush into dangerous situations in spite of their squishy unarmoured body. They are the type to survive in extremis thanks to quick thinking, nerve and absurd luck, while their companions worry and / or watch in exasperation. They have a taste for justice and have been known to rudely ignore certain laws they felt were unfair. Might have a bounty on their head in at least one part of the universe. They do have a tendency to lose track of their own feelings amidst everyone else's. Life before the shipAs a small squishy larva, the future captain was found in a swamp by some friendly nomads. They were given the name Oor'cha, which translated to "Little Blessing" in the nomads' language. They were adopted by the largest family, but also cared for by all the parents in the community. Oor'cha was raised in this peaceful environment and taught to respect all living things. They enjoyed travelling across the lands and reserves that the nomads guarded like rangers, and marvelled at the world around them. The nomads were aware of Coangis' empathic ability. They were careful to let the child learn to use it properly, and especially to process feelings, stay detached and protect themself. Once Oor'cha was old enough, they acted as a mediator in the community, then attended meetings with other communities, traders, and officials. Their job was to use their natural ability to prevent anyone from cheating the nomads. Most of the time, the mere presence of an empathic mediator was enough to prevent any trickery. In their thirties, Oor'cha left the nomads to continue working as a mediator in a more urban environment. There, they learned more about space!laws and different cultures, tagged along on space!diplomatic trips and got to see space!parliament buildings. The name given to them sounded more like a childhood nickname than anything, but they never chose a new name to sound more serious or official. Unlike the rest of their kind, Oor'cha never lost touch with their foster family or felt a need for independence as they aged. They were always happy to throw themself into other people's lives and help wherever possible. Just as they felt their final moult / metamorphosis coming, Oor'cha fell in love with a bunch of space misfits with beautiful dreams. (Possibly the first members of the ship's crew.) They postponed their final moult until they could no longer hold it back. When they emerged, it was with another half-humanoid body adapted to other species. They were technically a mature adult, but they had missed their coming-of-age metamorphosis, and would remain stuck in an intermediate (neotenic) form for the rest of their adulthood. Relationships (require a full section) (more might come later) Officers in general: Oor'cha has a lot of respect for them, and for anyone who has skills and knowledge that Oor'cha does not. Keeping up with the more specialised officers' departments is a pleasure, and they are always happy to listen to nerd-rambling. S'siri: Oor'cha greatly admires her ability to keep up with everything. She is like their spare brain. What would they do without her? They are also very thankful to her for looking after the people they care about. They have no problem being told off by her, thanks to their empathy, which lets them sense the benevolence behind her blunt words. They might just beg for cuddles later, when things have quietened. Qoeln: a precious nerd that Oor'cha treasures very much. They want Qoeln to get the best equipment and parts to work with! They do their best to stay attentive to signs of Qoeln's anxiety so that they can react fast if necessary, though without being obvious about it. They might also remind Qoeln that delegating is a thing if they're getting too overwhelmed. Theo: they share her interest in people-watching and the two can gossip a lot, in a good-natured way, as they work. They can have impressive shouting matches with her, which are more letting off steam and play-fighting than real arguing, and only scary for those watching. Oor'cha's empathy helps them to sense that she is not really hostile, and they hug and make up soon after. She can be their anchor during a difficult situation, as her mere presence is a reminder of her quartermaster's veto power to keep them in check, but also by keeping a clear head and helping them to do the same through empathy. Iki: close friends and casual lovers. Oor'cha hit it off with Iki as soon as they met her. They could immediately tell that she was eager to make friends. They share her taste for physical affection and can spend hours cuddling. The intensity of kvagulaar emotions means that, when Iki was in a good mood -which is most of the time- she would have acted as an emotional shield for Oor'cha. While they basked in her presence, her cheerfulness would have drowned out other people's feelings and given the captain an empath's break. On the flipside, if she was ever overcome by painful emotions, they would have had to stay away from her. (And comfort her through text messages instead. ;_; ) Scip: to the empathic captain, talking to Scip is a fascinating challenge, confusing and frustrating at times and full of surprises. They were cautious, attentive and particularly determined to make friends with the AI. Scip was the only person on the ship to whom they could talk without picking up somebody else's feelings. They would have been grateful for this at times when they were on the verge of overload. When they were too ashamed of their negative feelings to talk to the crew, they would have confided to Scip instead. On the other hand, any outbursts on Scip's part would have completely blindsided the captain. Species InfoCoangi are thought to be a very ancient species. No one is sure where in the universe they originate from, but experts agree that it is "really far away". (I'm an expert) (hi) The larvae and young adults are better-known and famous for their ability; but the full-grown adults are rarely sighted. They can live for centuries and are elusive enough to be almost legendary. (Not unlike pseudo-legendary Pokemon.) Aside from "Coangi", they have been given several names in different languages, with meanings ranging from "Foster Children" and "Listeners" to "Gummy Snacks". They can be described either as a single sex species, or as a species where every individual has a unique sex. Their life cycle begins with a larval stage that lasts between one and five years, followed by fifty to seventy years of an intermediate young adult stage, then centuries as a full-grown adult. Larvae are not raised by any Coangi parents. They are scattered - possibly on different planets - to be found and raised by foster caretakers. They're mostly aquatic and look like small, vaguely snake-shaped blobs with large, shiny eyes. Their survival seems to rely partly on the cuteness factor that might endear them to passing parents and children. It takes a few years for the larvae to look less like blobs and more like snakes with fins here and there. Their first moult marks the passage from larval to intermediate stage. The empathic ability is a relatively recent development in the species. It is thought to have evolved from an older sense, which focused on detecting the more basic needs of any life forms: different types of hunger, safety from predators, problems in the environment... That sense would have been particularly helpful for forming symbiotic bonds. Before adoption, larvae's empathy is closer to that archaic ability. It is their main survival mechanism, allowing them to sense when something larger than them is hungry, for instance, or when something is fleeing and they should do likewise. The shift to emotional empathy may have occurred when Coangi migrated to parts of the universe inhabited by sapient creatures that raise their offspring. Intermediate Coangi are best described as extremely adaptable. Many parts of their body are able to shift around and rearrange themselves. These changes occur during moults, and always mimic foster caretakers' appearance. Having the same number of limbs and the same facial structure as their foster family can really help a Coangi to fit in. This process works like a sort of dynamic brood mimicry which increases the young's chances of survival. To accommodate these transformations, Coangi metabolism - which is already impressive at any time - can put on huge bursts of speed. Most individuals keep an overall snakelike body structure, but some shift so dramatically that they only keep a vestigial snake tail. The shifts only allow them to mimic other species' external appearance. They do not gain any intrinsic properties - no enhanced senses, electric organs, venom, or correct Chif'rrr pronunciation. As they near adulthood - starting in their forties -, Coangi typically grow more independent from their foster families and adopted cultures. They live further from other species' settlements, interact less frequently, shut down their empathy, and the physical changes that had been brought on by mimicry begin to fade away. This behaviour is thought to be caused by a deep-rooted instinct, or even the species' genetic memory. The passage from intermediate to adult stage is marked by a longer moult, which acts as a full metamorphosis. They lose their last remaining alien features, the mimicry process stops completely, and they transform into a large flying serpent not unlike a dragon. That is the Coangi's true form uninfluenced by other species. Adult Coangi sightings usually occur near a unique ecosystem, or an ecosystem in need of rescuing. There are legends of full-grown Coangi blasting powerful energy beams to protect nature. Adult Coangi form symbiotic bonds with many smaller lifeforms which develop right on top of their body. (Picture the lion turtles from AtlA, with a snakier shape and with a whole ecosystem instead of a city on their back.) Some may carry ancient flora and fauna found nowhere else in the universe. Other legends (or rather, wild headcanons >_>) involve Coangi flying directly through space, not through any ability of their own, but thanks to the fauna and flora growing on their body, which has the ability to produce enough of an atmosphere for them to survive a certain time. These Coangi would be the oldest and largest individuals on their final flight, spreading their eggs to different planets before their death.

Way overdue, considering how most of it is just a repost of my original OOC infodump, but that's how I work with deadlines.
Kathleen's ancestor:
In addition to that:
Name: Loorea (pronounced the same as floor without the F and with an 'ea' sound I'm finding impossible to explain. Ask me to pronounce it if we ever meet up I guess. Home planet: Nera, a foresty I-can't-believe-it's-not-Oregon of the sort every other planet on Stargate SG1 looked like. Much taller mountains than on Earth, with one single ocean. Species: Morrigan, a fairly advanced if somewhat singleminded warrior-folk who only live for fighting. They do travel in space, but mostly as a preventive measure, to make sure they know who lives in the area and what they're capable of. They've been to Earth *coughIrelandcough*, weren't very impressed, left us in peace since then. The species is characterized by a very high baseline level of strength and stamina. Otherwise looks pretty much human, manes aside. Age: barely twenty in human years, accounting for the time she spent on the ship after running away from home at age Disney-princess-when-they-start-doing-their-I-want-songs.
Loorea joined the RETON when it landed on Nera, got ambushed and trapped by the Morrigan because it's what happens when a strange spaceship shuffles into their territory, and Loorea opted to sneak out, release the ship and barter her joining in return. She worked at the archives, being quite good at her job due to the immense interest she took in everything, and in her free time she either pestered people to tell her All About Themselves or worked out at the gym. Had a pretty sucky dating record because she tended to attract jocks, who were more interested in impressing her than her as a person.
