I'm currently seeking somebody with a deep love for anime (specifically the magical girl genre, aka my TV life ) to look over a few parts of my newest series. The main question I have and whether or not my series is plagiarizing a certain show, and I need another person's perspective.

downrightdudeCan you name the specific show it might be plagiarizing? If potential volunteers know which show they should be familiar with, it will also let them know if they can possibly help you out.

Of course!
It's inspired by Madoka Magica.

Alrighty ... I'll give this my best shot. I'm not really an anime fan, but I appreciate the art and the story-telling involved. The last anime that I watched ages ago was "Yumerio Patissiere" which is basically about a girl who enjoys eating cakes lol - I could identify with that one.
I looked up "Madoka Magica" on Wikipedia, and will give me brief thoughts below. Just before I begin, a brief note on academic/creative integrity - that's very admirable of you to be concerned and cautious that you are over-stepping boundaries (and there are real-life instances of this being done blatantly, admittedly), but being inspired by another work is nothing to be ashamed of, especially when the source of inspiration is clearly acknowledged. Aren't our imaginations the collection/reinvention of things/others' ideas/experiences that have inspired us throughout our lives?
Okay ... back to your series "The Flower Princess". I wish that I could draw a Venn diagram right now haha.
Differences between Madoka Magica (hereon referred to as MM) and The Flower Princess (FP):
- MM revolves around a high-school girl and her classmates who have magical powers to defeat witches (and one witch actually turns out to be one of her friends, plot twist). The FP, on the other hand, is centered around a princess who is sheltered by her parents/the outside Neopian world.
- The rising action in MM that moves the plot along are the relationships that the main character has with her friends (e.g. a crush on a guy who plays violin, her jealous friends that fight over him, death of an upperclassman), while what moves the plot along in FP are mysterious encounters with charming strangers that want something from the princess
Similarities between MM and FP:
- Female protagonist (Madoka the pink-haired Japanese student in MM, and Rose the Royal Kyrii in FP) - Use of a rose-related weapon (bow and arrow in MM, a rod in FP) - Antagonist in the form of a fantastical monster (e.g. witches in MM, a ghoul/handsome shadow Zafara in FP)
Hope it helps!
