Goderators do we have an estimated population of Wrighton and surrounding farms? I'm imagining around 10,000 (i.e., the size of my rather isolated town) which is enough to warrant a 20-30 bed hospital, about three primary (/elementary) schools, one high school, four pubs, about three cafes, a small library, half a dozen churches, one community college, a rather sad mall but a semi-reasonable shopping area... Am I thinking about the right size? Shall I scale it down?

Soooon. By the way Fraze, when you said the festival will be in the marketplace and at the park, Dunkin's ears pricked up in my head. You said one of his Favorite Words. "Park." The only words he likes better are "Work Time!" and "Bravy!" (Dutch for "Good Boy"- he was bred in the Netherlands and all his basic obedience commands are in Dutch. Or whatever the Wrighton equivalent is if the story doesn't take place in our universe earth. ^^ Fun fact, the most common countries for breeding K9 dogs are Germany, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.) In Peaches' case, her basic commands are in Spanish. Speaking of which, can any Spanish-speakers validate the following Google-translated commands? (The list of Spanish dog commands I found was, while adequate, not comprehensive): Let's go: Vamonos Go to: Ir al Quiet: Silencio Touch: Tocar Settle (down): Calmarse Get busy: Estar Ocupado (this is the command for the dog to... answer the call of nature. I'm open to alternatives >>)

Aaaand we're off! Feels odd to start off with such a brief post, but the first post of the signup thread was pretty much the intro post and I didn't want to copy and paste that. Also I only realized after I typed it that this: was totally some kind of metaphor for my feelings about this game. But seriously though AAAAAAAA I'M SO EXCITE. Something around that order of magnitude, yeah. Exactly one school doesn't seem like enough for a town that size, but we can just assume that there are other schools and pubs and churches and such that just didn't get marked on the map.

Hurrah! \ o / I'll probably start a post after I wake up. I already have a general idea of what I want, just it's late.
For when I post tomorrow, I should ask first. It was confirmed that school is on break for the sake of the festival. Would school have ended same day as the festival start and kids would start going to it after school, or does this day start with a day off from the start?
The answer will affect where my character is first. I'm fine with either.

Ok, got my character...
Name: Edward Fox Age: 40s?
Appearance: Black with slightly graying hair. His hair is usually seen short and face shaved. Green eyes White skin, but tanned from being outside (and some dirt and grime)
Usually seen wearing nice suits, very often frock coats (colors may very, usually red, blue, or dark purple with yellow or black trim). Carries around a fancy walking stick.
Bio: A homeless man. He can be a bit eccentric, but friendly, if you talk to him (or just listen to him talk to thin air). The really odd thing about him is that despite being homeless and always seen sleeping in a alley, sidewalk, gutter, or wherever and no real place he calls home, he always seems to have new sets of clothes and accessories. Though not always clean because of where he's been sleeping. No one knows where or how he seems to get new clothes or even eats at times, but no one has really wanted to ask... Or if they do, he rambles on about odd things.
He tends to make up his past when speaking, and rarely does he repeat the same background twice.
For those who look hard enough, a shadow is often seen hiding in the background watching him at all times.

To clarify, today is not the festival right? That's four days from this current round?
Also how long are you looking to make the round last? And will Wrighton get it's own sub-board or will it just be plunked into the general Splatterboard?

I've got work this morning, so I won't be able to work on a post until this afternoon. I'm excited to read what else everyone posts once I get back home, though!

ShinkoThat is pretty neat. An uncle of a friend did mention once that when he was on the police force and had a dog all her commands were in German.

After a bit of discussion with my co-host, I decided to edit the opening post of the RP to include the introduction in the signup thread as well. I also changed a few details to reflect some of the small changes that were made to the town worldbuilding-wise. I encourage everyone to reread the first post for the sake of getting a quick refresher. Oh, I'm so glad we have a thread for this! I'm so hyped, it's hard not to want to talk about it. XD Also, I may have a silly fanfic planned for this once it starts. >_> Bit late, but I would be deliriously happy if this game results in fanfic. It wouldn't really matter either way, buuuut my first thought would be that school is already out. No need to stick to that though, if you think of a reason why your character should still be in school after all. To clarify, today is not the festival right? That's four days from this current round? Also how long are you looking to make the round last? And will Wrighton get it's own sub-board or will it just be plunked into the general Splatterboard? That's right, it's four days away. The length of the round really depends on how much people find to do. We might move on to the first round in a few days, but if people begin setting up interactions then we could let it run longer so as not to cut things off too abruptly. And yeah, it'll just be the OOC thread and the game thread so we don't need a sub-board. (We're keeping the whole game in one thread, since separate threads for each round would just get combined when the game finishes anyway. Doing things old school, baby.)

I'm open to alternatives >>) Sure, I can help! Just a note, first, that list of Spanish dog commands you lined sounds like it's from Argentina? At least as far as I can tell, from words like Vení (come) and Soltá (drop-it), which are correct, but not said that way everywhere (here in Mexico, those would be 'ven' and 'suelta', for instance) Not to say you shouldn't use that list, though, I just wanted to let you know as a fun fact! And if you're sticking with it, I can make the rest of your commands match that, too, so everything is consistent. So, disclaimer, I've never had a pet, so I'm not very knowledgable about dog commands, but I am a native Spanish speaker, so hopefully Google and I will make a good team XD The thing with translators, is that they translate things out of context and often too literally, so I few of those sound off. I would say: Let's go: Vámonos Go to: Ve a (this one is tricky because it might depend on where she's being commanded to go? But I don't really know how it's used. Can you give me an example so I know if what I suggested would work?) Quiet: Silencio Touch: Tocá Settle (down): Calmada (because Peaches is female. If it was a male dog it'd be calmado) Get busy: Uhhh I can't find commands for this. Google just keeps giving me articles on how to train your dog to do their thing in a specific spot xD;;; and unfortunately 'get busy' is the kind of phrase whose meaning gets lost in translation. But I guess "Ocupáte" meaning take care (of it), could work?

Gracias, amiga! (I'm 99.9% sure I said that correctly.) Yes, I would very much like to retain consistency with the list =) Examples of "go to" command: Go to college/ go to the park EDIT: Ginz ❤ I just realized some of the commands in the top part of that webpage I linked to (in the infographic) differ from their counterparts on the bottom of the page (which I suspect is Mexican Spanish). I've decided to stick to the commands in Mexican Spanish ^^

Shall I scale it down? aaaaa not the population size, haven't you heard of the Great Plot Holes of '72? *crosses self, mumbles ominously* We talked about this just yesterday and I suggested keeping it as ambiguous as possible because whenever we try to pin such facts down too specifically, things go wonky. Somewhere between 10-20,000 sounds pretty reasonable to me for the time being, but there's no telling if it actually holds up to scrutiny as the story progresses xD (also see: Hogwarts has around a thousand students but there are only four boys in Harry's room, the heck.)

So, here's my character's profile! (Crosses fingers and hopes for the best) Name: Karen Hart Age: 7 Gender: Female Appearance:- Dark brown hair, bob cut
- Black eyes (brown if there is enough light)
- Colouring mostly inherited from her mother.
- ("The face is definitely yours, husband mine.")
- Overall very nondescript
- Like that quiet classmate you’ve always had but whose name you've always forgotten, whose face you've always can’t remember
Background: - Family of three, Karen being the only child.
- Family runs a successful business. Only reason stopping the family from expanding is because her father finds it too troublesome. And well, her mother does not disagree. ("But think about all that possibilities!" "But what about my afternoon naps—I mean, my cute daughter’s afternoon naps? You know she wouldn’t sleep without her dearest papa!" "…Husband mine. You shouldn’t lie to the company nanny." "C-company nanny?!")
- Her father ("Papa") can be eccentric, and a laid-back guy who doesn’t seem all that reliable.
- Her mother ("Mama/Ma") sounds like a stern, quiet, strict (etc) no-nonsense women, until you actually hear her words.
- Both of them are actually badasses.
- Both of them are co-chairs/co-bosses for the company, and drives their CEO (or whatever the second-in-command is called) insane. ("Well, you’re the company nanny because you basically take care of the company, don’t you?" "…" "The company is our first child. We will be leaving our baby in your care until we come back." "Don’t encourage him, ma’am." Pause. "What do you mean, "until we come back"? Wait, wait, don’t go! Come back he—"
Having too much fun with the company so I should probably stop.
Bio/Backstory:1. Karen was an odd, deliberate child. She picked up things far too easily, and knew words not said to her, things not taught to her. She preferred to spend her time alone rather than with her peers. She was rather apathetic. 2. Both of her parents were completely unperturbed by her unusual intelligence. 3. One day after dinner, she asked not to enroll in a school, or pre-school, for that matter. Her mother put down the newspaper but her father does not pause in his dishwashing ("Papa lost a bet. He had to do it for three months.") even though he did turn to give her a casual look. 4. That was when she told them. 5. She had been somewhat nervous, worried even, at the possibility that her now-parents might throw her out. ("Would they?" A voice at the back of her mind huffed. "You know them for so long now. Do you think they’d mind?") True to her reasonings, her father dried off the last plate, and only cheerfully stated that, we’d have to go visit that place someday! Wrighton, is it? while her mother calmly filled in some forms to declare her to be homeschooled. 6. She loved her parents. Then. 7. "The spring fair," she said quietly. "It’s the town’s biggest event of the year." 8. "Alrighty then." Her father grinned cheerfully. "Let’s leave tomorrow." 9. "…If you say so," was her mother’s serious reply. 10. She loved her parents. Now.
