I didn't even think of that. xD To be fair, in spite of my love of Professor Layton games, I've never been very good at piuzzles. xP

June Scarlet Haha, somehow I forgot completely that Beatrice had blue hair, for whatever reason I imagined her to be a red head (probably a combination of your profile image and Hunty's journalist also being a red head, yay association \o/) Thus, I was a bit confused during Tiger's post, like it was referencing Velia, instead but it all makes sense now xD Shinko Thorn Oh yeah, I didn't think about the "buzzing in their heads" bit, either =o Well, makes all the more sense now! Excited for the next puzzle as well, which hopefully involves this Scip person And such a shame we can't find out the author of the journal note, wonder why they didn't sign their name? ,':3

I suspect Scip might be 'list item two'! So Fraze's NPC, maybe!

If I was given the full coded message and no help, I would never get it done. Oh, I'll probably post in the afternoon XD Can't think tonight really.

In regards to NPCs being able to help out: absolutely a-okay, that's the entire point of 'em group puzzles ^^ We can only give out so many individual puzzles (imagine if that particular message had been chopped into 30-some pieces) but once the PCs have provided all information that can be provided, everyone is free to pitch in and help out. Honestly this got solved faster than I expected, I was kinda worried that the cypher together with the lack of spaces would prove too difficult. Means we can adjust future puzzles accordingly.
In regards to the whole business with Discord: okay, not gonna lie, a lot of this is personal for me. We have this baby, as probably everyone knows by now. The baby limiting our free time is one thing, but most of all he limits the choice of free time. Anything and everything we do can get interrupted at any point for an unknown stretch of time. It makes following any kind of IM chats impossible - I'd drop out at random and when I get to check back in maybe half an hour or two hours later, the conversation will have long since moved on. I'm not just being persnickety about Discord to be snooty; I can't use IM chats right now.
I've spent the past year-and-then-some seeing the social hub of the forum run mostly on Skype and then Discord, my friends and people-I'd-love-to-be-friends-with-if-we-just-talked having all the funtimes I can't have. It's like I'm some Dickensian orphan watching the beautiful people chat about beautiful things behind brightly lit windows. Which, you know, is nobody else's business but mine because that's what I get for becoming a Dickensian orphan (terribly unfortunate metaphor right there). I'm not trying to guilt anyone with this because this is very much my issue alone. But with Wrighton in particular, I become the Dickensian orphan watching the beautiful people behind brightly lit windows chat about the very thing I'm co-hosting, which... makes that particular wound kind of salty, if you follow me here.
Fraze got the idea for this game ages ago (year and a half, I believe) and I vetoed it outright because I knew neither of us would have the time. Ideally I would've liked the game to be postponed by another three, four years, but let's be realistic, then it was never going to happen. That's why we set the forum-only limit right off the bat with the signups. I was entirely expecting that to be a dealbreaker for some people, that it'd get complained about - except what seems to have happened was some slight bargaining with "but can we do just thiiiis much discording?" (which sounded reasonable) and then it snowballed into a lot more discording (which should've really been expected).
The thing with throwing half-baked ideas and tiny blips of brainstorming into an IM program is, I can fully see how it'd be useful. I'd happily be a part of that if I could (aaangst, etc.) But most of the time people don't even realize how much it can impact the game. Even aside from the fact that we love seeing all the speculating and half-baked ideas and tentative thoughts and other things that show how much people are pouring their hearts into this event, you'd be amazed how many people's character ideas we've already cooked into the story and will continue to. Any speculation and brainstorming shred can shape and tailor the story to your characters. If we see it.
Ultimately, I can fully understand and sympathize if some people get excluded due to lack of IM chats. There was never going to be an ideal compromise there. But just due to the sheer difference between the platforms of forum and IM format, someone will be excluded if they prefer one over the other and there's no way to make it inclusive for mostly-IM-only people without it happening at the expense of us, the hosts.
(In case anyone ever wondered what my Mod Squad posts look like, this is a pretty good indicator xP)

Huntress It's you guy's game so the final call is up to you. But could we at least not be chided for tangential discussions of general tropes or past forum game characters on discord? =P It's a bit annoying to be told off for making broom jokes ("the proliferation of NPCs" as Fraze put it) when the concept of "brooms" as an analogue for runaway minor characters is a joke I created while writing side stories for Medieval, and that we bring up literally all the time because it's something that's pertinent to writing as an art form, not just in the context of Wrighton. We have a custom broom emoticon on discord that's been there for months for exactly that reason.

I do think Fraze meant, specifically, the discussion of possible Wrighton NPCs- because the non Discord peeps are also keen to get in on the NPC love for the current project. I don't think discussion past characters, or the buttloads of Medieval NPCs, is something they were concerned about.

I don't think discussion past characters, or the buttloads of Medieval NPCs, is something they were concerned about. *Shrugs* I could be wrong, but the way Fraze worded his post was so broad, and the way he explicitly made note of "it's okay if this thread goes off-topic and gets tangential" made it seem like he was not in favor of anything that could even remotely tangentially be connected to Wrighton coming up on Discord. Admittedly, I was not part of the conversations, but there were people who said in side-chats that they were shut down for discussing past characters in the sense of "lol my Wrighton character says XYZ about me as a writer and my writing tastes, look at all these past characters I have along similar lines."

We have a custom broom emoticon on discord that's been there for months for exactly that reason. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. As far as I could see, yesterday's discussion about brooms (and many other things) came about as a direct result of people talking specifically about Wrighton. Conversation would start with Wrighton, veer off into other things, and then loop around back again. What I meant was that, if that same discussion had taken place here (starting with chat about the game and then going off in other directions), then those tangents would have been OK. Or if people had chosen to take that stuff back to the Discord writing chat, then that would also have been OK. Whiiich, I can see how you read what I said as trying to police the general activity on Discord. But that wasn't my intention by any means, and I apologize for making it come across that way because I could probably have phrased that point much better. On a lighter note, I've updated the character list, including people's secondary NPCs, and added chapter links and "summaries" to the first post of the RP. Next up, tackling the FAQ. (Yes I swear it's going to happen. *Cough*)

(oh, Celestial , just so you know I went ahead and made sure this was immortalized) Also, unrelated, but I realized that I really need to kick the habit of "when in doubt, just make characters run into each other" x)

I've been wondering about this for a while, but who are the town hall staff? Who's the mayor? XD; I don't think I've seen any posts concerning them and I don't know who's got the liberties to create them. I've been dodging identities in my posts...er, post, but I think there will come a time I can do that no longer.
