I know when you said party you meant, like, "PARRTAAAAY!". But my mind jumps to the idea of a party of adventurers, like the Fellowship or Eragon's ever-shifting crew, finally taking on the challenge and braving the colossal structure that is Medieval. =P By that metric, icon and Avery are the grizzled older mentor figures that will die at the end of volume one to force a coming of age upon the rest of the party.

Been chopping away at it, have my own impressions.
But hey, group reading wouldn't be bad. I'm mostly skimming along, anyway, it might be cool to actually *read* more posts with more people.

Thorn - you'll be pleased to know that I did actually intend the double meaning!

I am also a Mediveteran (and I do think that it would also be nice to make the faction docs available, specifically so people can tell "why the heck are the characters doing so much xyz all of a sudden"); I'd join in when the reading goes on, but am also wondering if this will include some of the extended universe of fics as well? (Partially asking because I fell way behind as soon as they started coming out <u<; )

It would definitely be cool if there was interest in reading the expanded universe but it is complicated. It was developed without any particular order, just "ideas we had at the time", a lot of it is about characters who were at best briefly mentioned in passing in the main RP, and some fics can be novel-length. They are also spread over several writing threads.
That said, if there is real interest in reading the expanded universe, I'll do my best to compile a recommended reading list for everyone, starting with stuff that happened during the events of the main RP itself, then working down through side-stories featuring characters in the main RP, then characters who were mentioned in passing, then all the expanded worldbuilding and other such stuff. People can read as much or as little as they like of it. ^^

Well Wrighton ends tomorrow (depending on your time zone), and I had said I would bring this idea up once Wrighton was over with a view to people having a little more time to put to it, and also hopefully addressing some post-Wrighton blues! While my own participation in Wrighton dropped off once it exploded beyond what I could keep up with, I'm cautiously optimistic about being able to keep up my involvement in this Medieval Reading Party, so... we'll see how this goes!! At this stage I'm thinking to set up a discussion thread on the splatterboard so we can talk about what we're reading as we go. Most chapters, I imagine, we'd allow about a week to read. For long chapters (and I think the first chapter would count as long!) that would probably two weeks. On the discussion thread, I'd encourage people to talk freely about whatever they want to, but to spoiler anything that was new information in the current week's chapter. If you've read ahead or are a Mediveteran and want to mention something that happens beyond the current week's chapter, that would of course warrant a double spoiler. For those Mediveterans among us who aren't reading along, that might entail a bit of research to remember what happened in which chapter! Talking dates and times for a moment, I'd tentatively propose midweek for changeovers, so that we have a good uninterrupted weekend to read? With that in mind, I would tentatively propose to make a start on Wednesday of the coming week - approximately five days from now. And so I throw it over to all of you for discussion. Do you have any feedback or suggested improvements on how to run this? Or feel free to just post an EOI if you'd like to EDIT: Belatedly tagging those who have already expressed some kind of interest and/or may be experiencing some post-Wrighton blues. Apologies if you've already seen this making my tagging redundant :/

Hmmm. I'm thinking it might be good to wait until December to start this? Not that I'm unenthusiastic, but November is NaNoWriMo which is a not insignificant timesink, and people will probably want a little while to recover from Wrighton before committing to something else so huge. XD
I mean I'm cool with starting whenever, but anyone who knows me well can tell you I'm a crazy person~

ahh, those are good points, Shinko! I was gonna be all like YES LET'S DO THIS, but a) I dropped off in the middle of Wrighton when I went on vacation and catching up seemed too overwhelming after I returned and b) I don't plan on participating in NaNo so of course I feel fresh and ready XD;; But after reading your post, I think waiting until December sounds like a better idea, considering the things you brought up. Anyway, I'm just posting to say I'm still interested whenever it happens, and I think the way you're planning it sounds really good, Reiqua!

I agree with the concerns for NaNo and wanting to recover from Wrighton. (which was a 5 month long adventure. I need a little break from all things roleplay. XD)
Whatever is decided, I am still interested in participating, and quite excited to see what new readers think of the Medieval story. X3

Yeah, I think waiting until December would be a good idea for aforementioned reasons, although I am definitely still interested in participating in this whenever it may happen :3

My participation level will probably only be at the "occasionally looking in to see what's going on and what people are thinking when the mood strikes me" level, which can come at any time. (Though the mood may be more likely to strike me after a bit of a break.) So it's really more up to people actively participating.

Well the general consensus seems to be to wait until December which I'm glad of!
The moment I read Shinko's comment I realised:- Oh! Wednesday would also happen to be the start of November wouldn't it... and I was kinda planning on doing NaNo this year... not so much for myself, but to support a friend who needs to do it, so...
Tentatively thinking we'll hold off till December then?

I like the idea of this happening in December, too! ^^ For all the aforementioned reasons. The rest of the planning (with the mid-week starts and spoilered stuff) sounds good to me. =D
One random suggestion I have, too: Could it be fun if any Mediveterans change their avatar to whatever their character avvie was during the game? (Or an avvie that suits them--minus any spoilers, of course!) It wouldn't be obligated, of course, but I just sort of enjoy the idea of people reading, say, my posts with my Aldrich avatar rather than with Tracy or something.
