From the makers of Operation F.R.E.E.... Comes something completely unrelated, but which they wanted to mention so you didn’t think they were event noobs.Hey guys! WHO WANTS BOOKS? Yeah, that’s what we thought. EVERYONE wants books. Who wouldn’t?! So, you might have heard of (or even participated in) one of the previous NTWF Swaps. Jayeee and I want to bring the idea back, but with a twist! Instead of just sending out random gifts, we thought it’d be fun to have a book swap! =D The way it’ll work is, first you need to sign up! Ginz ❤ will collect everyone’s addresses, and randomly assign everyone a person to send a book to. Then, when the time comes, everyone will send their books! The fun part is you won’t know who’s sending a book to you, it’ll be a surprise until you get it! =D RULES & STUFF1. For this to work, you’ll obviously need to give us your address. If you’re a minor, make sure you have permission to do this! 2. You must be an active NTWFer. Since this event deals with private information, we’d prefer to be safe, and keep it within community members we already know and trust. 3. You’re only expected to send ONE book. You’re free to send more if you want, but it’s not necessary, and you should only expect to receive one back. 4. You’re not required to buy a book to send. You can if you want, but sending one on your bookshelf that you don’t mind parting with would be ideal too! To make sure everyone gets a book they (hopefully) like and haven’t read before, we encourage you to post your reading preferences! If you have a Goodreads, or any other sort of list of books you’ve read or want to read, feel free to post that too! Then, whoever gets your name in the draw will have a better idea of what kind of book they could send you! However, we’d also like to promote trying new things in this event, so while listing your preferences will help participants gain an idea of your interests, try not to be too specific. Saying that you only want a book that’s entirely pink and full of glitter and sparkles, and shoots rainbows when you open it is probably not a good idea, Ginz. After all, you might end up receiving a book that you’d never even have considered, but upon reading is SUPER AWESOME AMAZING! It’s also probably a good idea that, as a book sender, you avoid sending something too popular, unless you can be certain that your recipient hasn’t read it yet. Don’t get us wrong, we love Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Sorcerer’s Philosopher’s Sorcerer’s Philosopher’s Sorcerer’s … the first one, but the chances are that almost everyone has read it. So try to pick a book that either you know for sure your swap partner hasn’t read, or something that’s slightly less popular so the odds are ever in your favour (which they probably won’t be if you send The Hunger Games either, just saying >_>). If you’d like to participate in the swap, please post to sign up! You don’t necessarily have to include your reading preferences and all that in your first post, but remember to come back and do so if you want to! SCHEDULESign-ups will close on September 24th! That is also the deadline to send us your address, so please remember to PM it to Ginz ❤ ! After sign-ups close, we’ll send you a PM with the name and address of the person you’ll be sending to! We’ll give you a bit of time to prepare, but everyone should send theirs between October 8th and October 22nd! (these dates are tentative, but we’ll keep you updated via PMs if anything changes!)

This sounds interesting. I highly doubt that I'll be able to participate (I only have one book here on campus and I'm still reading it - that and I'm technically a minor until the 30th, a good six days after the deadline (but then again, I'm in college...)), but I hope everyone does get a good book.

Sounds like fun, and I need to downsize my library anyway, ahaha. Count me in!
As far as preferences go, I like fantasy. I've read Harry Potter, most of the Tamora Pierce Tortal series with the exception of the Provost's Dog trilogy, all of Pierce's Circle of Magic books, Lord of the Rings, Mooost of Mercedes Lackey's Heralds of Valdemar, Naomi Novick's Temeraire series...
Yeah. Here thar be fantasy, ahaha. I'm also partial to xenofiction, having read most of the Warriors series, Fire Bringer, The Sight, and Fell among others.
Things I'm noooot fond of include mystery novels, romance novels, tweeny slice of life stuff like Babysitter's Club, and horror.

I've been wanting to do one of these swaps 5eva! =D Sign me up please, Ginz! I'll edit a list of some books I like/want, and some genres and things I'm super fond of, into this post. And PM my address (and actual name I guess) your way after posting this. Only you and whoever gets picked to send me a book will see those details, right? I just want to make sure. I'm not a minor, but also not the homeowner, and I do have permission to do this. Things the Thorn likes: My absolute favourite book ever is Ancillary Justice. I do not actually own this book. So that's obviously going to be on this list. Plus it contains many things I love which are probably in other books I haven't read yet, like: AI, said AI dealing with personal identity issues, SPACE!, well written non-romantic relationships, and dissection of our common assumptions about gender (which is part of what drew me to it in the first place). More generally, I'm a fan of fantasy and sci-fi stuffs (with a slight preference for soft sci-fi in the latter case, I believe, but I love both). I love dragons (SEE: vast collection of dragon-themed paraphernalia), and also wizards and magic and sorcerers because magic is da best. The Skulduggery Pleasant series was a source of constant delight for many years, and I was super excited to see that there'll be a new book out next year (so many unanswered questions!). I also love AI/robots, cyborgs, cloning (cloning + identity is one of the major reasons I love The Clone Wars t.v. series) and aliens, on the more sci-fi end of things. I do like comics but don't own many (because they're pretty dang expensive brand-new. >.>). I have a Thunderbirds one (volume one, seen here), and have always wanted to find a Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons one but with no success thus far! Star Wars comics are also kewl (I loved Defenders of the Lost Temple for example, but don't own it). Haven't read any superhero comic books yet, but I would be up for trying some if you don't know what to send. Unless you count Sandman by Neil Gaiman, which is fabulous. <3 I haven't read all the volumes yet but World's End is my favourite out of the ones I have read (and is also the one I read most recently). I like Shakespeare plays, the only one I would like to but don't already own is Hamlet. I'm not super clued-up on classical literature in general (reading Wuthering Heights at the moment, the first classic I've touched since The Picture of Dorian Gray last year), but if anything seems to suit my interests and is a classic, then by all means! The Phantom of the Opera was my favourite book for years, so yeah, classics can still interest me. When it comes to non-fiction I like: anthropology stuff (it was my major, haha), metaphysics, history (particularly: of New Zealand, magic/witchcraft beliefs, or gender), genetics and/or evolution. And space! I read a book earlier in the year, I can't remember what it was called but it was something like '101 things you should know about the universe'. And that had lots of cool stuff in it- about nebulas, pulsars, and actually explaining redshift in a way I could understand. So non-fiction books with this kind of stuff= a happy Thorn. *** My librarything is here, if people want to check if I've read/own a particular book. EDIT: Because it costs like a bajillion dollars to send stuff to and from N.Z., and I understand not everyone has a spare bajillion lying around, I've also sent Ginz my email address in case you'd prefer to work out some kind of alternative (for example emailing me recommendations I can hunt down at my local library, or emailing me an ebook- which is apparently a thing you can do, according to the googles?).

I'M HERE I'M HERE I'M HERE
And I can make a wishlist soon. I generally prefer that nebulous thing called classics, but I'm also into history and politics.

>_< Oof, really bad timing on my end as if this had been done earlier, I would have gladly exchanged my books for something new. Unfortunately, I've already downgraded my library twice for my moves.

I would be up for joining the book swap. =D I am absolutely down for fantasy (any kind: historical, urban, high, low etc...) and sci-fi as well as history (fiction and non-fiction books about history) and classics. Also like folk tales and satirical works/humorous works. I realise that is a fairly nebulous list but it's because I tend to like a lot of stuff.

Yeah, this thing. I should actually post to join this thing instead of spending so long vaguely thinking that I should join this thing that I miss the deadline :'D
Stuff I like to read: sci-fi, murder mysteries, fantasy of varied sorts, the occasional romance novel, travel accounts, the right sort of horror stories (Poe and Lovecraft and such), world classics, children's books, uh, books. On one hand I'm pretty easy to please, on the other hand I've read a whole heck of a lot in my lifetime.
Stuff I don't particularly like to read: broadly speaking anything where the characters act stupid for plot reasons or otherwise >>; Meaning that most fantasy, YA literature and the vast majority of romance is hit and miss for me.
If you're really stumped and want a safe bet: Doctor Who tie-in novels would make me all sorts of happy =D

Alright, signups close in just a few days now, so I should post a bit about my reading preferences as well! I don't really want to be very specific about the things I like or what I tend to read the most, because I want to keep my options open and trying new things is fun too, but I'll say the only things I would probably not enjoy very much are horror, and anything with a lot of violence or graphic descriptions. I'd just rather avoid that sort of thing. >>;; Other than that, I'm willing to give anything a chance! I do have a Goodreads, in case you want to check if I've already read a certain book. I'm not sure if you need an account to look at people's profiles, but here's a link to mine: www.goodreads.com/user/show/5909342-ginz(That could also give you ideas, because my to-read list is full of books I don't have, but I've been recommended or heard about and thought they sounded interesting! But don't feel like you need to stick to that! I'm always open for recommendations and I like to add to it constantly, so it'd be great to get something that isn't there too.)

Hey guys!
Sign-ups are now CLOSED!
Jay and I will draw your names out a hat now, so you can expect to get a PM with the name and information of the person you're sending to later today! After that, you'll have a couple of weeks to prepare your package and have it ready to send starting October 8th.
Thanks for joining! We hope this goes really well! =D

Oops, I never wrote about my reading preferences here, so I guess now is a good time since sign ups have closed! =D So, i'm pretty open to reading new books. There are some genres that I generally don't gravitate to, but there's always an exception to that. A good example is horror books - I don't read many, but one of my favorite ever books is of the horror genre. So if I list a genre or type of book here as one that I don't usually go for, but you have a book that you love and is of that genre, then send it anyway! =D I'm open to all recommendations. But as I just mentioned, horror books are usually not my forte. I also have a bit of a love/hate relationship with YA books, mainly romance ones I find difficult to get into. I especially enjoy fantasy (all types), as well as historical fiction and all the classics, and sci-fi. Like Ginz, I have a goodreads: www.goodreads.com/user/show/5909077-jayMy goodreads is a pretty good indicator of what books I already own. Anything on that page I own and/or have read. (That includes my to-read pile, I own all of those books, I am just a very slow reader <_<).

Hey guys, this is just a reminder we totally didn't forget that we're midway into the sending period. The idea is to try and send your books by 22nd October, but if you're a little later than that then it's okay too! Just try to think about sending it fairly soon so that everyone receives something. 8D Tags: Happy reading! <3
