Jellyneo has posted the FAQ and the blurb for a possible new daily on their site. It's also briefly mentioned on another thread here, but I'm putting in up just so that thread doesn't get too cluttered. the FAQ (in spoilers as it has not been released) How often can I use Trudy's Surprise Slot Machine? Trudy's Surprise Slot Machine can be played once a day. It will be available on all pages, but will disappear once it has been used, and will not be shown again in the same 24-hour period. The day will reset at 00:00:00 NST.
How many Neopoints will I earn each time I use Trudy's Surprise? The amount of Neopoints awarded will keep increasing for each consecutive day you play! Each day you come back and spin again, you can increase your prize. If you play 25 consecutive days, you could win 100,000 Neopoints, then the counter is reset to Day 1 to work your way up again!
I got less Neopoints today from Trudy's Surprise than yesterday. What happened? The prize pool resets if you miss a day, or after 25 consecutive days.
The Terrifyingly Bad Luck bonus sounds terrifying. What is it? The Terrifyingly Bad Luck Bonus is awarded for having, well, bad luck. If you play and your slots machine shows up 4 different items, you have the chance of being awarded extra points. However, you can only win this bonus once in a while. So, if you have Terrifyingly Bad Luck more than once within a week, well, that's just worse than terrifyingly bad luck and even we can't help you.
Does Trudy's Surprise reward only Neopoints? Are there any bonus prizes? There is a chance to receive an bonus NC prize! The blurb (again in spoilers) A strange feeling nagged Trudy, a curious Ixi, for days. A forewarning of doom perhaps, she thought. Soon after, on one of her long, solitary walks that spanned the length and breadth of Neopia, something strange happened. She heard an unusual rustle in the bushes. Curious, she took a peek. Hidden among the bushes was a slot machine! ‘Ka-ching, ka-ching,’ it seemed to whisper. Trudy hesitated only for a moment before she succumbed to its call. She pressed the button on the machine, unsure of what she may unleash. To her amazement, she was awarded Neopoints. Trudy fell to the ground and cried with joy. She could finally afford a fancy frock for the ball.
From then on, Trudy took more walks, hoping luck would smile upon her again. And it did. She discovered she could play the machine once every day to win prizes. With each consecutive day, the number of Neopoints awarded increased. Occasionally, the machine was extra generous and gave her a Gift Box. On the 25th day of playing, she won a phenomenal number of Neopoints!
After 25 days, things changed, leaving Trudy puzzled. This FAQ, helped her make sense of everything, though.
I'm going to come out swinging on this and be harsh. I'm not sure having a new daily that awards plenty of neopoints is such a good idea. The Neopian economy is already bad as it is, and ever since the March layoffs, JSN have made it worse with their actions/ineptitude/whatever you would like to call it (like some of the recent Altador Cup prizes). Not only that, but it essentially makes the np and/or item sinks (ie. the Wishing Well and the Lever Doom) moot.
I've briefly mentioned my thoughts on the blurb itself, which is an abomination. Even the storytellers/poets/writers could come up with something more coherent than this mess. It's also an insult to our intelligence. There is a reason why the site itself and the plots/events of Neopia are kept separate. Yes, there were FAQs for previous plots/events/dailies, but it was done in a more tasteful manner.

It's up now. It was horribly glitched for about half an hour. It wouldn't give out prizes, and it wouldn't go away. Everyone had a massive broken game at the top of every page, and we couldn't get rid of it.
Sticking it everywhere on the site seems like a really bad move. The other dailies are easy to forget, but this one tries to make sure that nobody will miss a day. Hopefully there won't be an avatar, because that would make it even worse. x_x

My problem with it is, as JN said, that I am effectively locked out of my side account until they fix it so the prize is awarded when you actually spin the slots (or the more reasonable option, just putting it on its own page somewhere).
I didn't read that before getting onto my side and now I'm 2k richer accidentally. Submitted an editorial question asking CQ to send a paper airplane to the programmers about this.
I actually don't mind that it awards potentially large amounts of NP. I'm not sure if you're a restocker, but I can tell you from experience that selling things has been much much harder since Habi went away. The economy was fine before two things happened in quick succession: 1. Habi getting removed and 2. the new restocking system being implemented. NP sinks weren't moot a year ago and I doubt they'll be moot once the dust settles and the daily becomes a regular feature of our lives. The only thing that'll change is that some items will probably inflate again and, in my opinion, that's a good thing.

Inflation isn't always a bad thing for the economy, because what keeps the economy running isn't just nps itself, it's the motivation that people have to earn nps and spend nps. The price of any item depends not just on how much nps people have to spend, but how much they want that item and how much they are willing to work for it.
Motivation is low right now because of the recent account security issues, duping and everything. People are losing the motivation to earn nps and spend nps. The economy is sluggish.
I don't know if this daily would be a good idea in the long term, we'll just have to see. But I think that it's a good thing for the economy right now, gives people some incentive to stay active.
The implementation though... -___- That issue with side accounts really needs to be fixed. I think the daily should just be its own page instead of popping up the instant you log in. All the other dailies require you to actually visit a page, I don't see why this should be any different.

You see it in all sorts of MMORPGs, too; these "daily" quests that you do several days in a row in order to get a bonus. JS wants more activity and traffic to their site, and if giving away more free NP (in addition to Ghoul Catchers) is the way to do it, then gosh darnit, they're going to try it.

...Is it weird that I just want to see what Trudy looks like? Just stick her on the popup somewhere.

Hey, there's an option to disable it on the preferences page. Now I won't have to deal with it on my side account.

I can get past the potential implications of the inflation and even the size on the page; what bugs me is that it messes up my system of "two clicks to open 30 tabs worth of dailies" because then it shows up on every single page. >_< (Unless I open a lonesome page first and spin it there, which I guess I need to get in the habit of.)

M'kay, as a web dev and a person who likes using decent-looking sites, the placement of this thing bugs the crap out of me >__> I don't see why they couldn't do something like a Random Event-sized thing if they wanted it at the top of every page? Admittedly I think even those are a little big these days, but it would be much better than having something the size of one of the game windows sitting at the top of every page until you spin, and it would, y'know, look like it belonged on the site, instead of what I thought it was the first time I saw it - the top ad expanding downward to fill the screen =/

I don't understand why it isn't on its own page. When I first heard about it I thought it was going to be a Random Event thing, like the more you explore the site the more likely you were to get it. But if we're just going to have it appear as soon as it turns to the next day then put it on its own page (maybe somewhere in Neopia Plaza or Bazaar where I can see some empty spots. Besides people would use links to get to it anyway).

A comparison for those thinking that this is a good thing, economy wise.
Total np earned over the 25 days (using 2 matching symbols)- 454,750 np
Total earned over the same period if playing Kass Basher- 75,000 np
The fact that every 25 days you're guaranteed 100,000 np and not a chance (as stated in the FAQ) means that you're making more np in a single day than if you're playing Kass Basher over those 25 days.

I saw. >_> This... is not a good idea. 450k or so per month, just for logging on is a problem. You're looking at 5mil being given to users who log in every day in a year.

I like the idea of the Trudy's log-in slot thing. But perhaps nerfing down the amounts (like taking off a zero or something) would be more appropriate.

Obviously the 100k is a glitch, I think you're only suppose to get it if you get all 4 slots (and we'll assume anything else gives the same amount as they would from Day 10+). But still that comes out with an average (assuming 2 matches is the average) of 400k+ a Month/4.8 mil+ a year. That's too much! NP would be worthless and prices of rare item will skyrocket to accommodate the massive influx of NP! They NEED to decrease the amount given. My suggestion:
Start with the following: No Matches: 0 2 Matches: 1,000 NP 3 Matches: 5,000 NP 4 Matches: 10,000 NP
Then every day add +100 for 2 matches, +250 for 3 matches, and +500 for 4 matches. By Day 24 it'll look like this:
No Matches: 0 2 Matches: 3,400 NP 3 Matches: 11,000 NP 4 Matches: 22,000 NP
On Day 25 is the jackpot round:
No Matches: 0 2 Matches: 10,000 NP 3 Matches: 50,000 NP 4 Matches: 100,000 NP
Doing so would radically reduce the average (once again, 2 matches) to 65k+ a month/780k+ a year. Still a bit of NP, but playing Kass Basher for the same amount of time would get you 75k a month/900k a year (not to mention all the other ways to make NP). The Slot Machine would just become another drop in the bucket instead of a liter.
Honestly, I'd make it even MORE challenging, if not make it a gambling game. I'd make it so that the amount of NP builds up over time and you can collect it at any time, but doing so would reset it. In addition if you get no matches it also resets. Of course that would make it a gambling game thus put on its own page... which is what they should have done in the first place.

Well, if it does become a gambling game, let's hope it doesn't go the same direction as a lot of old gambling games... *eyes Bilge Dice, and the recently-fixed Dice-A-Roo*
