Oirdz quietly followed after Outside was a feathery creature about the size of a minivan. They were black with four-leaf clover looking green spots, and somewhat resembled a pterodactyl or a dragon. They shook their feathers and emitted a deep noted sound when approached. Fish hugged them. Oirdz looked them over, as if evaluating them.Oirdz: interesting.

Silver came out of the house carrying a contraption with straps and a speaker.

Rithivaland rumbled a reply, and Fish glanced up at her.Fish: She wants to clarify that by cross she means if you try to kill her or a member of her crew she will rip your throat out. Otherwise, throat-ripping is saved as a last resort on a case-by-case basis. Silver: By my recollection the cook's food on that ship does more throat ripping than the captain. Rith wheezed with something like laughter. Silver held up the device she'd brought out.Silver: Head down please. Rith obeyed, lowering herself to the ground and releasing Fish as she did. Silver began strapping everything down and positioning it.

The Scracs developed it because there's a wide range of languages they physically can not speak. Their own language is difficult to learn because each sound they make is a different letter depending on the note you hit, so they often find themselves the speakers of foreign tongues. A chipmunk-ish voice sounded from the speaker.Rith: Deluxe models let you speak languages you don't even know. Silver, this is not the right tone setting. Silver: I'm getting it...

Is this similar to how Fish had a grasp of my own language when I arrived? It's notoriously difficult for other species.

Fish: There is an open file I have been using and adding to while speaking your language. Whoever started it may have used something like a thought transponder on Plumtrr to gather language knowledge. If you'd like, Rith, I can enable your transponder to speak what we know of their language. Rith: That would be interesting. But I won't know if something translates incorrectly. The voice was more normal now, closer to how she had sounded as a Zafara.Fish: I'll be with you! I do have language pattern detection skills.
