It was midnight, Neopian time, when the chains appeared. They snaked around and under the water like a sea dragon, all joining together in a ball at the bottom of the submerged Taco City square. Cold and unmovable, the chains made no action towards those who dared approach them. They just waited.

The sun rose, the sun set, and the chains remained where they were. A dark presence surrounded them, and late into the night this presences increased.
Suddenly, a ghostly flame burst from the chains, heating the water.

Starla: ?! What's happening to the water? *Stares down at the depths, noticing the dark presence.* ...What is that? *She goes to swim closer to the dark presence, though not submerging underwater.* Pisces: *Eyes flicker a different color, quite alert**The Shimmers react with agitation. Pisces lifts up his arms and raises a sphere of water into the air, the Shimmers with him inside it* Pisces: Sending you guys home. No arguing. I'll come soon.*The Shimmers are sent swimming off in their own spheres, clearly reluctant to leave. Pisces continues to watch from his own water globe, floating above the city patiently.* Steam rose from the boiling water near the chains, reflecting the light from the fire. The flames grew brighter, the heat intensified, and the ball of chains melted together. Water rushed in to replace the swiftly emptying space, creating a current that lead into the square. As the water level dropped, the chain ball took on a different form, molded by unseen hands into a cloaked humanoid figure.

Starla: *As the water starts to boil near the chains, Starla stops swimming closer, and instead tries swimming to a nearby rooftop in order to keep herself from being boiled alive. She climbs on and casts a light orb in her her left hand before holding it in front of her, trying to see past the steam. She keeps one hand on the hilt of her sword as she stares at the figure taking form, trying to figure out who it might be.*

The chains remained after the water and fire were gone. The figure was clothed in a tattered and singed cloak that gave off an unpleasant aroma. One day many years ago it had perhaps been a lighter color, but no longer. A skeletal hand reached out from the cloak, holding before the figure a war scythe. They lifted their head and looked directly at Starla, the eye sockets filled with ghostly flame. The eternally smiling jaw of the exposed skull opened and spoke, a single word echoing, coming from every direction.
"STARLA"

Starla ran into the building and down the stairs as the water level drained further, doing her best to avoid the damage caused by the water itself and the boiling. But she managed to get out of the building just as the water was starting to disappear. She stared for some time at the figure, trying to make out who and what it was. Then as the scythe came out, and they lifted their head, it dawned on her... She narrowed her eyes at the flame and flinched at the call.
Starla: "Y-you... It can't be..."
She gritted her teeth and immediately took out her sword, sending a strong beam of light towards the being's eyes.
Starla: "What are you doing here, Kasi?!"

The light hit her, and a multitude of twisted shadows stemming from her appeared for a moment. She herself had no reaction to the light. "You killed Kasi, Starla. She refused to fight you, and you attacked her. You hacked, you slashed, and adorned your blade with her heart. I am not Kasi, I am a remnant. You may call me Reaper. I am here for the city." She took a step forward, her chains clanking when she moved.

Starla stared incredulously at the figure, the grip on her sword only tightening. She put herself into a fighting stance as she glared.
Starla: "I don't know how you're even here. But I won't let you have it. I don't care what you call yourself; I'm not going to let you do any more damage than you've already done!"
Starla raised her sword and began moving forward, readying a spell in her hand.

The smiling jaw laughed.
"I'm not going to let you do any more damage than you've already done! You've tainted the entire city, Starla!"
She tried to rush forward to meet Starla, but the chains bound to her dragged along, slowing her to a walking speed. The smiling face snarled at the effort required to move.

Starla gritted her teeth, still keeping her eyes on Kasi as she watched her approach.
Starla: I've done no such thing! You're the one who's come back, not just to kill me, but the whole town! You're the tainted one here, and you know it!
Starla extended her hand, encasing Kasi in a pillar of light in an attempt to keep Kasi blinded before she started running, making her way around the pillar while coming closer, looking for an opportunity to attack.

The war scythe swung out of the light pillar in front of Starla, arcing towards her. Behind her a spell trap appeared, resembling the face of a clock with no hands. "FALSE!"

Starla flinched back away from the scythe, and stepped backwards, gritting her teeth as she held her sword in front of her.
Starla: "It's true and what you've done proves it!"
While backing away, she walks into the trap.

The trap lit up, casting an amber glow around Starla. A coating of the same color encased her limbs, causing them to slow to the speed of continental drift. "Reaper" stepped out from the pillar of light, pointing her war scythe at Starla. She raised it to the sky and leaned on the pole.
"You consider me the villain? THAT MEANS I GET MY MONOLOGUE. You've made a mistake, assuming I'm dark aligned like Kasi was. Starla, the city doesn't have to perish. It doesn't have to be destroyed. Admit your guilt and face justice. This city is guilty of punishing those who are perceived as villains, those who were dealt a bad hand in the game of life- while not bothering to give the same treatment to their "heroes", their shining examples of humanity. What kind of hero are you, Starla, to destroy a spirit who refuses to fight you?"

Starla let out a gasp as the trap encased her. She attempted to raise her sword only to find herself almost stuck. She glared at "Reaper" as she talked.
Starla: ...What have you done to me?
But before Starla could say anything more, the two figures appeared. Starla turned her head towards them, but only briefly.
Starla: As if I have a choice... Unless they're really here to help...
She stared back up at "Reaper" and talked in a whispered voice so that only Kasi could hear.
Starla: I expected you to lay a trap for me then... But that's not important. You've done terrible things, to me and others! And I'm sure you would've done more. Why should I feel guilty about stopping you from doing any more wrong? You still are. You say the city doesn't have to be destroyed as if that's an option at all! You can't pretend to be innocent, Kasi.
