Has anyone tried customizing their pets lately? I notice that the active pet icon at the top left of the page as well as the user and pet lookup pages seem to not change at all even though the customization page reflects all the changes made. I have a feeling this has something to do with them still using Flash (as the pet lookup screen still hasn't been updated yet as it still has the 'flash is dead' message.)

I don't customize much, but I have noticed at least that with the new layout, not all customization items show up on the "My Pets" page, specifically background and foreground items. I'm guessing this will be changed in the near-ish future, seeing how customization seems to be a big deal in terms of the site making money, but for now yeah not all changes are showing up.
I also just noticed that they've added a few more games to the Games Room: AAA's Revenge, Armada, Vending Machine, and Neopian Adventure Generator. None of them games I'm personally too invested in, but hopefully this means they'll be rolling out even more soon.

Random question, but when was the last time there was a non-pet day, non-holiday NP item released? Well on May 13th (Tyrannian Victory Day, not sure if that counts as a holiday) they released two new Petpet Colours: Tyrannian Seti and Tyrannian Dartail. When they redid the Create-A-Pet process they included a free neck Bandana in the four basic Colours. Festival of Neggs final prizes on May 21st April 15th (Grey Day) they released a Neopian Press Book: The Futility of Existence. They supposedly released a few new prizes for Kitchen Quest around the same time but, though it said it awarded them, they haven't been properly activated. May 5th was start of Festival of Neggs. March 18th (Illusen Day) released a new Medieval Food: Illusen Day Matcha Cheesecake Brownies. March 11th was when they released the user created Random Contest items. March 5th (Gadgadsbogen Day!) they released new Tropical Fruit. February 6th was when they had Neopies and introduced a new prize to the pool: Ellsworth Handheld Plushie. February 5th (Jhudora Day) released a couple of new Jhudora items. January 15th (Sloth Appreciation Day) released some items for it. Advent Calendar... New Rare Item Codes... Neopet's Birthday... Halloween... Faerie Festival... Chocolate Ball... Charity Corner... More New Rare Item Codes... Usuki Day... Brightvale Day... New Trudy Prizes... Last Altador Cup... You know what I think I'll stop there. Yeah, unless it's a specifically themed day or something else, they haven't released a new item "just for the heck of it".

Yesterday I decided to reinvent one of my side pets, who had been up for adoption until I got attached to the name. So I went with something I'd been considering doing for a while and that I knew I'd love forever: Behold. Sadly, not actually named mr_sneky. Also sadly, not even the actual custom. (But yay for premades making it look like it is, amirite? One perk of the Flash version not showing up, I guess.) No, my pet has got on the cheapy version of this because that coconut is apparently worth 10 caps. And the palm tree is like 4? OTZ But it is the goal! Also the petlookup will serve as a mini tribute to mr.coconut. :3 Edit: forgot Neo images break on here now.

Why is everything I like doing on this site, apart from getting through NQI Insane and entering the creative competitions, REALLY EXPENSIVE

Okay, I'm about a week late with this, but Snarkie just dropped Part 2 of her NeoTales: Plotting a Plot write-up! I am very excited! :3

Got this while I was imagining a short story I could write about tomatoes. A sign? Possibly... Also, glad this didn't happen in the real world. Tomatoes landing on my lap doesn't sound like such a good thing.

It's certainly a good read! For me, I really appreciated the part where she went on a tangent and explained that the pose of a character can really help inform how people react to it. I hadn't really thought about it before! Seems like sound advice.

On a somewhat lighter note separate from all *gestures wildly* that going on with the NFTs, I've been going through the earliest issues of the Neopian Times to save the entries onto a flash drive regardless of whether or not we ultimately go through with a public archive, and I've been catching glimpses of some vintage Neopets drama. There were a lot, and I do mean a LOT, of articles back then (Which would be 2000 - 2001) about "Rich vs. Poor." I haven't been properly reading the articles because I'm trying to move quickly, but from what I've skimmed I've seen articles demanding that the rich users with big shops stop pricing their items so high, response articles saying that poor Neopians should just pull up their virtual bootstraps, response articles to the response articles...
It's kind of quaint looking back on it now, as well as somewhat illuminating that it's always been in the Neopets fandom's nature to complain and argue. It's also interesting to see that the Neopian Times was most certainly not as tightly moderated back then, because I definitely can't imagine the NT publishing slap-fights like that today. xD

Blueysicle That's such a wonderful part of going through ancient NT history, discovering the culture of the site and creative contests from back then! It really is wild looking at that stuff now and seeing what was controversial back then, and how users interacted with each other xD I haven't come across responses in comics as frequently as you have with articles, but that does remind me of one incident I uncovered.
There was a Sheep of Doom comic that made light fun of Legolas from Lord of the Rings for its punchline, and then just a couple issues later, another user published a comic titled " In Response to Sheep of Doom" wherein Legolas himself defends his dignity and demand respect from Neopians xD I don't know how serious the comic creator actually was in defending Legolas, especially considering how the comic ends, but it's still very funny that they made it and got it published lol.
What's also interesting is looking at Neopian Times culture on the forum from so many years ago. Earlier this year I combed through the Times Lobby board for old Review threads that had the release dates for New Neopian Times issues (which I have compiled on a google doc in case anyone else wants those dates), and in doing so I also came across interesting thread topics that ranged from milestone issue ideas to apprehension for the NT's fate after Josh stepped down as editor. Very cool to get a glimpse of that time through the eyes of those that were there!
