Changing or introducing an item seems like kind of a narrow theme to get enough ideas out of. But I may just be uncreative. I do like the idea of combining the AF with an easter theme, though. Doing something with the real Negg faerie seems like fun.

It could be kind of interesting to see something with the Angry Orange Yurble, the re-introduction of a batch of new utility fish, and evil mind control.
*cough*

This year might be made a little difficult by the possibility of a real plot running through the Fools anyway - meaning maybe we should steer away from plot/big event ideas this year?

Actually, a real plot might be the perfect vessel for a prank. We pretend that TNT leaked some artwork, or that some items were released that shouldn't have been. And we use that to derive some speculation on the plot, and the whole prank is just speculation based on leaked material. And because it's all speculation, it allows for us all to take our own angle, provided we agree on what at least some of the leaked stuff was (like a drawing of a Kyrii looking at an apple contemplatively, which several of us would use as evidence for our own speculations). We won't have to provide links, as TNT will have fixed the problem and hidden everything by the time the issue comes out. This prank covers its own tracks.
And the best part is, this works even without an actual plot.

But Yoyti, TNT did leak artwork that might be related to a plot, and everyone is speculating. (You've seen the sepia-toned sketches, yes?) By the time April comes around, TNT will more than likely have released this upcoming plot/event. So I'm not sure I understand how your idea works. D:
I think with TNT doing a huge big thing, this April Fools will have to be a fun little thing, maybe? Like the moustache year. It didn't really fool anyone about anything, but it was one of the funnest ones to do/read.

I thought that was released artwork, not leaked. And it doesn't have to be artwork either. It could be unreleased items that accidentally made it into the neopiean economy (like with the Altador plot, where you had to pick up an item from a shop. A shop could start selling an item which shouldn't have been released until that part of the plot), or perhaps a puzzle page was put up, probably for testing, but was accidentally made available to the public for a short period of time. Taken out of context, we don't know the purpose of the item or the puzzle, but we could get a reasonable idea.

That would all be very well if the Fools was tomorrow, but we've got a couple of months still. TNT will have released a plot by then if that's what it is, and it'll be in mid-swing. So anything plot-related we plan now would need to directly relate to a plot we don't know anything about in order to be believed. That would be impressive if we managed to guess it correctly, but unlikely Or we'd have to plan/make/submit all our entries in the week before the Fools in order to be current. Which isn't going to happen XD

I like the idea of doing something like the mustache year that isn't intended to fool anyone, like having a special negg that gets shown/referenced in all the entries, or sprinkling around clues about where to find this negg.

I'm right now thinking of a seldom used NT loophole, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I believe we are aloud to have new worlds and universes, as well as alien species not present on the neopets site, so long as the aliens are decidedly not neopets themselves? Let's press that point, and introduce a new world. A new species. We'll write stories and draw comics about this new place with its strange inhabitants. Neopets, of course, will be much more prominent, as our protagonists trying to figure out what these aliens are up to. In a comic, someone steps off of a spaceship, saying how excited they are to see this new world, only to come face to face with a vicious monster. Articles tell you what to pack on your first trip there. And so on and so forth. But here's the catch. We never say that this is something new on the site. This is all decidedly a fiction. It's the war of the worlds in Neopets (I'm not saying we should have a war, though. Just a comparison for the ultimate effect). We may even preface stories with disclaimers saying that they are largely fictionalized. We leave it ambiguous enough to imply that it might be based in fact, but we never say it outright. People get angry when we prank them. How do you think they'll feel when they find out that there was never even a prank!(Of course, this course of action can be applied to most any prank). I'm evil. ;D I like this idea. It's the kind of thing that would confuse my socks off if I wasn't in on it. ...Like Faerie Wars did so many years ago. XD

Hmm... This is an idea that probably won't work, but ties into the Easter issue quite nicely.
We all write stuff about everyone's favorite spring holiday, Pesach.
Unfortunately, the big problem is that it would be nigh impossible to make it subtle enough to get past the censors (it always bothers me that religion is banned, but Christmas and Easter are fair game) but obvious enough to be clear to the readers. So this suggestion is probably a big NO, but I thought I'd put it out there.

I'm all for a small fool like mustache one (which happened to coincide with Easter issue as well). Whether it's a negg or something else doesn't matter that much, though I like the idea of a Negg as it ties in well with Easter theme.
Regarding a plot related fool... well, we don't know if the hinted at plot is still in operation at Easter. If it is not, people would never believe that there'd be a new plot so soon, and if it is, chances that by writing our entries early (which I'm pretty sure quite a number of us intend), chances that we contradict something major of the plot, are quite high, which would make these entries appear rubbish and not even funny. So I'd rather not have a plot/event-related fool this year.

Wait a minute... This is TNT's plot to foil us!
They're taking advantage of the fools and Easter issue being one and the same, and then by throwing a plot in the same time frame, hope to shake us even further! Those crafty devils!
Come to think of it, that might be a halfway decent prank in and of itself. TNT conspiring against NTWF. (Of course, as the NTWF isn't a certified fan site, we would have to say TNT vs.Neopian Times authors, but that's a technicality).
Or, along the same lines is that TNT plans on changing the Neopian Times to make it more like a real newspaper, increasing the ratio of articles to everything else (and requiring articles actually be factual), and greatly reducing the maximum size on everything else (series would remain mostly unchanged, except that there would be fewer of them, and maybe some longer sections you would have to divide further). Of course, this causes a massive uproar from the writers, and we say that this is our protest issue. Occupy The NT! ;D
April fools goes meta!

I support this too. 200kb is already too small for comics (*cough*)... so pretending they reduce it even further would be a good excuse for making a tiny GIF with horrid graininess. Also, since we can use TNT characters in stories, plots, etc. as long as it's not "creepy or insulting"... INTO YOUR STREAMS, INTO YOUR STREETS INTO YOUR DRINK, INTO YOUR BREAD

Occupy NT? With fake interview with TNT-members? Don't know about featuring TNT, but we could ask Neopian Heros and Villains and other notable citizens for their input on the matter of turning the NT into a serious newspaper...
It could work... quite well even, I think... though I would not use the slogan of Occupy...
'No more Rainbow Press' (I wonder what the Fountain Faerie says to this...)
