*gets about 2k/day for several days* *does not think novel will be finished on time* *keeps telling self that I will go to bed early* *stays up until dawn writing away* *looks down to see...* 100k!I actually still feel like I could do more this morning. xD I just suddenly got past the sludgy-boring back into the awesome, and now it's go time! Only a few days left. But also not that many scenes left. I think I'm gonna do it--I'm gonna get a 100k+ first draft of a serious project completely finished within one calendar month. O___O AND THEN I AM GOING TO PUT MY BRAIN ON ICE FOR ABOUT A YEAR. BECAUSE IT ACHES.

Wow, awesomeawesomeawesome! (Both your excerpt and your progress. ) I think that you've done a really fantastic job, BC, and you most definitely deserve all of the amazing progress you've made. ^_^ From what I've read, your story sounds delectable. :3 Keep chugging! <3 *gets ice ready* XD

Thanks, Bre. xD I'm slow this morning. I keep getting distracted and have only written about 2k today so far--with only today and tomorrow to finish, I'm getting antsy. Still, 109k is a very good figure, and allows plenty of room for the story to shrink if it needs to during the first round of editing. (That's always unpredictable, though...) And incidentally, this is now my longest single story ever. Random tangent: I remember shortly before starting, I was poking around on the nano boards and saw a topic for people aiming for higher counts than 50k. I posted and said, essentially, "I dunno, I'm thinking about aiming for 60k, but I know I'll get totally burnt out." I almost want to build a time machine and go back one month and tell me, just to see the look on my face. ;

This title amuses me. So much.
Also, wow. <3 You can do it! Who needs brains, anyhow.

Who, indeed? x3
Aaaaaand MS word just attempted to eat 5k. That stupid, sneaky paperclip. I bet it was his doing. Dx Hooray for near-obsessive backups.

So... throwing in the towel.
I've hit 118k, making for a total of 7k today. I'm now pretty much exhausted--and I've decided to knock off for the day. It's been an awesome month, I ended up with a rather staggering wordcount, and I did what I set out to do--get a whole heck of a lot of decent story in 30 days. My villain is being awesome (doing such things as breaking into a closed coffee shop and fixing himself a ridiculously frilly, bells-and-whistles coffee drink while making his next evil plan--that was fun to write), my heroes are getting desperate, and the huge final showdown is just around the corner.
I really did want to finish the entire draft within the month, but at this point, I've realized that's an unnecessary, artificial goal. My wrists are hurting and I keep almost falling asleep; if I try to finish the entire thing today, I'll end up rushing the ending and making a mess of it.
I do intend to keep the momentum over these next few days and finish the novel, perhaps at a more sane pace (like 2k/day or so) that allows me to think everything over and work carefully, which an ending this large in scale will need. But in the meantime, I need some sleep and... some of that brain-ice I mentioned. xD
So, um... Thank you guys for being awesome and encouraging this month. Who's awesome? You're awesome! =D I shall continue with this, edit it, and make it epic!
That's all, folks. <3

It sounds awesome. :3 I really hope I'll be able to read the story in its entirety someday.

I hope so, too--I want to see this done and published and awesome so bad it hurts. x3
Cue rambling and awkward confession: At the moment, it's a little over a week since the end of November and I've gotten, uh... 1k done. Oops. I kind of want to say something about how my brain oh-so-needed that week off to recharge my writerly energy, but fact is I'm procrastinating, and maybe admitting that will give me the shame-fueled kick in the pants I need here. xD
So now that the topics are about to be moved and immortalized, I'm gonna put this here as a challenge to myself: I'm going to go right back onto a deadline and try to finish within a week from now. I have an insidious habit of never finishing things, but I won't let myself do that here. No matter how much coffee it takes. x3
